WHEW! TOO MUCH TURKEY

A GOOD THANKSGIVING WAS HAD BY ALL OF ME AND MINE THOUGH WE MAY HAVE TO ADMIT WE ATE TOO MUCH!

AND, THE THINGS WE DISCUSSED AT THE KITCHEN TABLE, WHEW! MAYBE WE SHOULD COIN IT "THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY" (credit Clint on that one).

WHERE DO WE START? SATURDAY WAS A GOOD DAY IN DOWNTOWN NEW ALBANY. A LOT OF PEOPLE SHOPPING AT STORES THEY'VE NEVER BEEN TO, A LOT OF GOOD FOOD EATEN AND A LOT OF FRIENDS OUT AND ABOUT. SOMETIMES WE WORRY ABOUT ALCOHOL SPONSORED FUNCTIONS BY THE CITY (BASED ON LAWSUITS AGAINST COMPANIES AND THEIR CHRISTMAS PARTIES), BUT HEY. WE GUESS THAT'S THEIR PROBLEM. WAIT A MINUTE - THEIR PROBLEM IS OUR PROBLEM - BUT HEY, WE CAN'T STOP THE FREE WINE AND BEER. WE SAW A VERY BAD WRECK ON SPRING RIGHT BEFORE STATE STREET AROUND 1:30 AM BUT WE CAN'T CONTRIBUTE THIS INCIDENT TO THE FESTIVITIES DOWNTOWN.

WE ARE GLAD TO SEE THEM USING THE BIG GREEN MACHINE THE CITY WORKS ON THE PARKING GARAGE WITH TO HANG CHRISTMAS LIGHTS THIS WEEKEND RATHER THAN OUR FIRE TRUCKS AND FIRE MEN. WHO EVER THOUGHT OF THAT IDEA WE GIVE A THUMBS UP TO.

GOOD ARTICLE ON THE POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE NUMEROUS DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS BELONG TO AND THE LEADER, VICKI. HANG IN THERE.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE SEWER LINES IN THE SEJ NEIGHBORHOOD BEING "Y'D" (TIED TOGETHER) WHICH ARE AS ILLEGAL AS HEY. WE FELT THE DEVELOPER PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE PADDED HIS ESTIMATE ON THE CONTRACT TO COVER UNFORESEEN COSTS (THAT'S BUSINESS). BUT, WE DO NOT FEEL THE CITIZENS SHOULD PAY TO CORRECT THESE LINES. THE CITY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THEM AND WORK SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THEM LONG BEFORE MR. PAUL GOT IN THERE. THIS ISSUE IS EXACTLY WHY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT STAYS ON NEW ALBANY'S BUTTOCKS AND WE CAN'T GET THEM OFF. WHY DIDN'T THEY GIVE MR. PAUL THE SEWER MAPS?

WE TALKED ABOUT THE WIKILEAKS WEB SIGHT. WE CHECKED THE SIGHT OUT BEFORE THEY WERE BLOCKED YESTERDAY AND READ THE NEW YORK TIMES ACCOUNTS. FASCINATING HOW TECHNOLOGY HAS OUT PACED WORLD GOVERNMENT BUT THEN TECHNOLOGY HAS OUT PACED PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING, DON'T YOU THINK?

SPEAKING OF TECHNOLOGY, TODAY IS SUPPOSE TO BE CYBER MONDAY. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE SUPPOSEDLY GOING ON THE INTERNET TO BUY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. DOES THAT MEAN CORPORATE EMPLOYEES, PRIVATE BUSINESS EMPLOYEES AND GOVERNMENTAL EMPLOYEES ARE USING "THEIR" COMPUTERS? IT BEGS THE QUESTION!

WE WILL LET YOU CARRY ON WITH THE DISCUSSIONS OF WHAT YOUR FAMILY MAY HAVE TALKED ABOUT OVER THE TURKEY AND HAM.

The drinking wasn't any big deal. Only one out of control was Mayor England. He was three sheets to the wind before he even stood up to talk. By the time the lights were turned on, he wasn't making any sense. It was a little odd.

Also, the event was sparsely attended for some reason.

I did the jingle walk and refused to enter Destinations after the stuff Randy Smith has pulled. Just walked on down the street. Otherwise, the day was perfect. Didn't see Baylor either.

You know, it really would be nice to get our town back.

How long has it been since we had OUR TOWN BACK???? It would be nice.

it's still not right we are decorating private buildings/businesses. We should decorate public properties, not private. I know it makes Doug look good, but I still don't know it's legal. I certainly don't think so especially using city equipment to do so and not having the money to do so. Why can't business decorate their own buildings? It would look so much better with beautiful decorations on the PUBLIC STREETS.

Love it! Vietnamese food on Thanksgiving. As soon as we get a Vietnamese restaurant here, hopefully one that serves lots and lots of alcohol, we won't have to go to Louisville for Thanksgiving.

Nothing could be more fitting for the Open Air Museum than boycotting a book store, BUT HEY< I GUESS THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM.

LMAO

I say boycott them all downtown. No one downtown merchant will get a nickel of my hard earned money.

Anyone attend Wimps wake?

I guess Roger furnished the brew, or should I say; sold his brew. Nothing like making a profit off of a deceased friend.

Tell us more. We need to know your reasoning.

"I say boycott them all downtown. No one downtown merchant will get a nickel of my hard earned money."

Can anyone believe Shirley and Ann Streckfus wants to give SEJ free hook ups?

I'm not boycotting. I love the Italian and the Cuban restaurant. There are a lot of good downtown merchants and I'm only boycotting the mexican restaurant until they pay the artist. Little Chef is always open and has good people and friends.

Anyone know if Amy Nash is going into buisness with Baylor?

Anonymous said...

Who the hell is Amy Nash?

Such outpourings of love by the people who feel so very strongly about matters that they ... hide behind "anonymous."

Yawn. I gotta go iron my leotards.

LOL

If a monkey sitting at a keyboard for eternity could eventually type the works of Shakespeare, wouldn't it be safe to assume that you could get your facts straight just once?

We had a question we were discussing at our table over Thanksgiving.

So here it goes. If we are expected to buy local shouldn't downtown businesses only sell local?

Anonymous said...

Good question 1:42, never thought of it like that.
Shakespeare? What the hell has he got to do with anything on here?

Reading twitter and NAC blog phone calls were coming in right and left saying YK was wanting a boycot of downtown. Nothing could be further from the truth. I like how YOU CAN GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT and want to malign myself.

I go to the shops and restaurants downtown, all of the time -- so please, leave my name out of it.

Thanks BAYLOR. YK

I see you at Little Chef all the time.

William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist

I see what you mean, Shakespeare has nothing to do with what goes on at this blog.

YK so I see you "read" this blog I have a question for you.

How do you seemingly know everything about what is going on in New Albany, yet you didn't know your husband had a pot factory going on in the basement of your house?

Anonymous said...

NUMBER ONE - I read all the blogs and other news articles.

NUMBER TWO - Who says, besides you, I KNOW everything going on in New Albany.

NUMBER THREE - Why don't you ask the Prosecutor about the case with Frank as I wasn't convicted of his crimes?

NUMBER FOUR - Why don't you ask my ex neighbor as to the abuse (as the police were at my house over this issue and she was very much aware))?

NUMBER FIVE - Why do you think my business is any of yours?

NUMBER SIX - I shop local, try to buy American and have stood against tolls for the bridges with an 8664 sign in my old yard (much to my neighbor's dismay who hates yard signs). I eat at all of the downtown restaurants, except the Mexican one where they haven't paid the artist yet and am not the only one boycotting. I don't drink dark beer so therefore I probably wouldn't enjoy the NAB.

NUMBER SEVEN - I think Ms. Streckfus needs to take care of her own family (because I don't have a lot of haters out there except for her) and have her brother pay his property taxes and relay the entire story about Main Street's involvement with money for attorneys to fight this darn city over a lack of city. She really likes my ex-husband. Big time. This way she could help a lot of people out. BTW, the Mayor and I have made peace.

NUMBER EIGHT - Thank you for asking about my health and how I'm doing. Appreciate your concern.

Anything else and I will ask the blog administrator, as I have asked Shirley, to remove the comments.

Thanks so much for caring.

Y

Make this a correction to the typo "about sewers". Thank you so much.

Everyone needs to leave Y alone. She is a good woman and has worked hard for our town. She is still dealing with the divorce and I am sure she would appriciate our support.

P.S. It was the firefighters hanging the Christmas lights. Matt Denison had them down their all day for several days hanging lights on private businesses. So if anyone needs help with their lights at home just call the mayor and the fire dept will be out to do it. Why start earlier next year so they can hang lights for all of the citizens.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone have a number so we can get help hanging our outside lights?

Btw, I'd not spend fifty cents let alone fifty dollars downtown.

When they srat selling local (only) I might reconsider.

Btw 2, how do we know the brewhouse has a business license and who are the owners of their LLC.?

You might search the Secretary of State's web site for incorporations, or you might even ask the Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, seeing as without valid licenses and paid taxes, one cannot receive permission to serve alcohol.

I understand it's easier to talk smack anonymously, cowardice being what it is hereabouts, but there it is. The information awaits you. You need only ask for it.

To Roger; where do you purchase your items Chef Josh cooks with. My understanding is this can not be purchased locally?

Duck fat?

The New Albanian said...

Inasmuch as he is able, chef purchases foodstuffs from independent regional producers, some in Indiana, some in Kentucky. I will ask him about the duck fat.

Anonymous said...

Duck fat is delicious, regardless of which state they shoot it in. The food Chef Josh prepares is wonderful. I have enjoyed it, and your brew, on many occasions. Thanks for providing another option for us.

Anonymous said...

There are plenty of ducks in commumity park. Chef Josh can get all of the duck fat he wants. And it will be local.

Anonymous said...

So buy local only means when it comes to Baylor's beer. I still say boycott, boycott, downtown.

If and when they sell only to New Albany, will I ever biy local.

Gouble standard here folks.

More of do as they say not as they dooooo.
