Harvest Homecoming sucks, support Fringe Fest!
Yeah, I'm sure my young children would much rather go to Fringe Festival than HHC. It's not always about seeing how much beer one can drink.
you ignorant little people just don't get it. Harvest Homecoming is a dinosaur that has not evolved to fit the new downtown. The progressives have the new model for revitalizing downtown so go to your out of town merchants for those precious 4 days to see the other supporters of sending your income out of New Albany while we drink eat and be merry at our local venuues.

For me, the Beer Walk is the true highlight of Harvest Homecoming. I can't wait to get out there with my gal-pals and cut loose after the style show. If you turn up your nose at it, I feel sorry for you. It is one of our favorite times of the year!!!

HH used to be very, very local. Vendors would come from NA, Jeff, the counties...now so many of the booths are just people that travel the country doing festivals, but aren't from here.
How many of you are aware that our businesses who work their hearts out all year long actually have to pay the obscene booth rent of $400 just to have the booth space in front of their very own businesses? How is that local?
Remind me why I would want to bring my children down to a festival full of roving drunks and pushy teenagers?

They certainly have a presence there. And what about the Boy Scouts? Harvest Homecoming wouldn't be Harvest Homecoming without those roastin' ears. And, of course, the Masons fix those little donuts. Mmmmm. I hear that French guy is fixing stuff like he did last year (and it was GOOOOOOOOD!). Then, think about the individuals who are so visible: There's Curt and Pam Peters and all the people from Develop New Albany and school people and families and lots of kids.

Churches and other orgs are fantastic for HH. The businesses that have the financial ability to participate- awesome. But it's really, really crappy to charge them so much so that people can just simply have a walkway through to get in to their business.

The more I think about it , there were three council members said they would work for free. Coffey, Blair, and Phipps. So I have researched it. In the state statue there is nothing saying you three could not donate that money back to the city SO I WANT TO CHALLENGE YOU TO DO THAT put your money where your mouth is.
The division these three make in the council is sad. I was there, Coffey I wish the teacher that spoke could of taught you a few things. Or maybe the drugs burned you up. I have contacted the president on this lets see if she brings it out, she is pretty good about expressing conversations she has with us rate payers.

The HH ran off the best booth ever. It was called The German Corner. They served great german food and the people were nice. They were always at the corner across from the little chef. Now know as the hot dog king. But one year the stupid politicions from new albany wanted that corner because it was prime real estate. They moved him down on the end closer to Wolfe glass. It pissed him off and he said he would never be back. Well guess what. He has never been back. Politicions come and go but good food boothes are hard to find. Take care of the faithful people who help the HH be successful and quit sucking up to groups who are just there to get votes. Oh and by the way the next year that political booth moved somewhere else.

Reality. The Mayor is not Hitler, he's just completely inflexible and out of his element. Politics are the reason the administration can't play well with others. I don't agree that the county has done everything in its power to come to an agreement either. What both sides must realize is the citizens suffer through this bickering. When Gahan ran, it was just like the Obama model, hope and change...didn't work...haven't accomplished much of anything. He was on the council for multiple terms yet can't interact well with them despite it being predominately Democrat. Heck, he rarely appears at meetings. The primary departments of the city are micromanaged, have little hope of making any profound differences. Most employees are fearful of Gahan or their moral is low. Poor leadership and inflexibility will continue take New Albany down the path to nowhere. I could go on, but in the end, Gahan's term as Mayor is and will continue to be a failure.
Only two counties in the state have combined city/county parks. We had it for 18 years. For the past 8 years the county did not do it's part. It is not working. The experiment has failed. Splitting them is the right move unless the county makes amends.
Reality: The Mayor is doing his job. New Albany is not used to a working Mayor. So he is not out drinking and shaking hands all day. He is making decisions that should have been made years ago.

One thing that has not been well reported is that, while the county has not paid their fair share, neither has the city. Everyone involved who actually has a vested in the parks knows of Clere's efforts to get Parks money to the PARKS with ABSOLUTELY NO TAXING AT WILL. So, 5:50, what you're going to get is what you want: The city and the county will divide up the parks, each "taking care" of its own parks. That's what YOU think you want. Me, I want Ed Clere's Parks District. It was the only solution that would keep our parks intact.
