Richard Lugar's Perspective

RICHARD LUGAR'S COMMENTS

"Legislators should have an ideological grounding…But ideology cannot be a substitute for a determination to think for yourself, for a willingness to study an issue objectively, and for the fortitude to sometimes disagree with your party or even your constituents…

"One can be very conservative or very liberal and still have a bipartisan mindset (th...at) acknowledges that the other party is also patriotic and may have some good ideas. It acknowledges that national unity is important, and that aggressive partisanship deepens cynicism, sharpens political vendettas, and depletes the national reserve of good will that is critical to our survival in hard times…

"Our political system is losing its ability to even explore alternatives. If fealty to (partisan) pledges (in either party) continues to expand, legislators may pledge their way into irrelevance. Voters will be electing a slate of inflexible positions rather than a leader.

"I hope that as a nation we aspire to more than that."

(I think those are wise words from a wise man and they deserve to be repeated as often as possible -  Opinion of Bill Lamb from WDRB TV.)

Amen. One by one, we're losing our statesmen and only have one right now: Ed Clere. Where are the good and wise public officials? We need more, now less of them.

Anonymous said...

Way to go Benedetti for putting the monies and explaining how the the system works. Putting 338,000 back into the edit fund was right on since we got robbed of 2.3 million.

lugar was too far up obama,s ass

Anonymous said...

NO. Lugar wasn't up Obama's anything. Lugar was a true statesman. Lugar, Hamilton, those guys are statesmem.

Anonymous said...

Politics has changed since those guys were in. Now it's for the money. Look at our president. Why spend million's of dollars in campain money on advertising and campaining cost's for a 250,000 dollar a year job. MONEY

Anonymous said...

Ed Clere is a fake and a dork.

Anonymous said...

Yep. I agree Yawn

Anonymous said...

The grapevine told me today that a lot of city owned buildings are mold infested and need to have work done to them. I will investigate further and post what i find out. Sounds like an expensive rumor.

Anonymous said...

The president makes 400k plus an expense account---plus a travel and entertainment account plus a pretty nice house---plus a retreat in maryland (camp david). Clinton was he last one on the old salary schedule and that was 200k

Anonymous said...

Glad for that update. Still Money out the yeng-yang. Did you know that a 100 Million is given to each political party from our tax money to pay for security at the national policitial conventions for both Republican and Democrat.

Anonymous said...

tea party rules, Lugar was Obama's boy in indiana . Put indiana in the Romney column

Anonymous said...

Money for each parties convention has been given since 1976. nothing new---just remember when you watch them that you helped pay for the stage----and---they are private organizations

Mold has been confirmed. Was grown in a culture tube. Councel people Benedetti and Price has seen it from what i've been told. So we will see what happens

Anonymous said...

There's mold in that building. No doubt about it. I'm allergic to mold and I feel bad soon after I enter.

Anonymous said...

Dear 6:29, I would suggest spell-check. You appear stupid when your spelling is wrong. Your message is not nearly as powerful as you might believe. You have become the fool, not those you have attacked.

Anonymous said...

Dear 6:24, as you may have noticed, some of these people who post incorrect spelling sometimes would pass the spell-check method. For example, they're = their = there. If you haven't noticed that, you appear the fool for calling someone out on it. Also, remember, not everyone can spell as well as you or I can. Be nice.

Anonymous said...

Way to go FOS for your post about capitalism and ingenuity. We could use some of that around here.

Anonymous said...

6:50, I agree with you. It gets old reading posts from pompous @sses who think they're smarter than the rest of us just because they can spell.

Anonymous said...

Lose vs. Loose
Too vs. To or Two
Hear vs. Here

I have seen all of these. This is very elementary, so do not gripe if you get called out.

Anonymous said...

6:24. There is mold that could kill city employees in city owned buildings and all you can type is that you suggest spell-check ? My message has nothing to do with how powerful it is. It's to inform the public about a hazard in a city owned building. And to you i guess it's foolish to try and save lives since that is what you think i am for posting it with a misspelled word. And please ( i'm dying to read this response ) who the hell am i attacking ?

Anonymous said...

Hey 7:26 azzhole for asshole. Oh wait. Your both.

Anonymous said...

Agreed, 7:51. If a building is owned by the city, that means it is owned by the taxpayers. Therefore, we ought to care about it. Furthermore, we're asking our public employees to work in a place that is potentially dangerous. It would behoove all of you to take this seriously. Now, I don't know about this mold. Where is it in the building?

Anonymous said...

Hear is my response two 6:24. Awl of watt I'm going too right will pass spell check. Every single word. Now, watt say ewe two that?

Well, eye say that it doesn't matter if ewe can spell? That does knot make watt ewe right more write. Get off you're high hoarse and stop mocking people.

Anonymous said...

True. Took me a minute to read all that, but your write. ROFL

Anonymous said...

I have come to the conclusion that most everybody who posts here is an idiot. This blog is not relevant in the least.

Anonymous said...

You can say spelling doesn't matter all you'd like- fact is, you don't get a job if you can't express yourself correctly via the written word. Why would that be? Well, because if you're to be taken seriously, you need to know basic spelling and grammar. Same here. Any truth you may have means nothing if you can't spell or use the English language correctly. If you can't be bothered to know words, why would we think you could be bothered to actually research facts and get them right too?

If people call you out on your atrocious butchering of the English language, have the humility to say 'whoops'- correct it, and move the discussion on. Making dumb posts using more misspelled words does nothing but make you look foolish, not humorous.

Let me guess...the same folks that think it's okay to butcher our language also want to see English as our national language, despite the fact that they can't even grasp it themselves.

Anonymous said...

As a former employee the CCB is full of mold. Several employees have died from Cancer there. We have notified EPA several times. There are several so called 'sick buildings' in New Albany.

Anonymous said...

We can't afford to fix the mold problems because the NAPD gets all of our money.

Anonymous said...

Just found out tonight the Station #2 on Grantline rd. has mold in the living quarters where the firemen live. They have a culture cylinder out there where mold has grown. 2 Council people have seen the mold. Awaiting to see what they do !

Lugar & Hamilton are NOT true stateman. A TRUE staesman was and is Birch Bayh. Look what he done for our country.

Anonymous said...

sounds like ole douggie fresh the king of england is spreading rumors around town again.....go figure. he couldn't even get elected to the city council for pete's sakes. remember? it wasn't that long ago. no mayor would listen to that bag of wind after his performance the last four years.

Anonymous said...

who would be stuipd enough 2 hire doug... thats so dumb. he lost a council race wen he wuz mayor. i did hear that roger baylor wuz hired as the new city council lawyer.

Anonymous said...

Look at what he done? Obviously, not enough for education.

Anonymous said...

How could roger baylor be hired as city council lawyer. Has he passed the bar?

Anonymous said...

I believe that Doug England was the finest statesman this area has seen for many years. He always dressed nicely and he spoke well as mayor. I was proud to have him representing the people of New Albany. But I know that some of you jealous haters will disagree.

Anonymous said...

England was not hired as a consultant!!!!

Anonymous said...

1. Doug England's job wasn't to do things for "education." That's a ridiculous statement, 6:28. Education is not the mayor's job and he needs to stay out of it other than in a purely watchful and perfunctorily helpful roll.

2. Doug England is absolutely NOT any kind of statesman. Dressing nicely has little to do with being a "statesman." He was (is) drunk more than sober, and I've seen and heard him say a myriad of outrageous things to some very statesmanlike individuals.

3. I don't hate Doug England. I kind of pity the man and I think he wasn't watched closely enough by money handlers (who turned a blind eye, they say, so England could continue to funnel money to his buddy Warren).

4. Yawn.

Anonymous said...

You all have not a clue what a statesman is. Google Hovie Lister. There you have a true american statesman. Back in the day statesman were statesman. Today it is just a title.

Anonymous said...

Congrats to Rog for his appointment as city council attorney.

Anonymous said...

No, 8:27, it's not just a title. That's why you notice that we don't have many statesmen these days.

As for Lugar, how quickly we forget his work in the disarmament of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons around the world. And Hamilton, who can forget all his work in relations with the Middle East and at home in House ethics reforms? As for Bayh, no one can forget how he has supported women in the workplace and advocated for their equal treatment.

Everyone needs to just calm down about this. We have statesmen in our day. Those three are proof positive.

Anonymous said...

baylor, council attorney yeh right now the council really wants the state to take over the city. England a statesman, yeh right, he's as much a stateman as Baylor is a bona fide attorney. They do have one thing in common though: they both lost a council race and still think they matter.

Anonymous said...

Statesmen. Yeah, we got some. Unfortunately, we got more crooks.

Anonymous said...

Baylor's still whining about TOLLS. Wahhhhhh. That's all he can talk about. And his little love affair with CeeSaw, that's very cute.

Anonymous said...

baylor's the freakin council attorney like baylor's for tolls.

Anonymous said...

tear down baylor's house of swill and bring back Rainbow Bread

Still cannot find any more out about the mold in the city buildings. They must be keeping it quiet.I wonder if these city officals that know about this would live in their homes if they were infested with mold? Makes you wonder how much they think a human life it worth?

Anonymous said...

Maybe the new council attorney can fix the mold problem. Heaven knows his office will be flooded with lawsuits if anyone gets sick from that. Knowing the city leaders know about the problem and does nothing to fix it.

Anonymous said...

Council Attorney I will stand to correct y ou it would be your City Attorney you know who works for the Mayor the one you put in office. What a joke!

You might need a boat instead of a bike though.

Anonymous said...

Baylor has just had his last blog visit from me. Look at one of his posts. He refers to a "better choice" for something to do om Memorial Day. If he honestly regards the loss of American life as something to be mocked that much, then I have no regard for anything he ever says. My dad died, honorably, in Vietnam. I hardly knew him. But my dad volunteered to serve and did so with honor.

I have seen Baylor refuse to honor the Americn flag, and I have seen him get up and go get a beer rather than join in the Naional Anthem, but I'll rot in hell rather than read ANY word this creature writes to make fun of the sacrifices of those who served so that he could have the right to bitch.

Please, friends, stop bothering so much with Baylor. He is no man.

Anonymous said...

What's unAmerican about a movie (the better choice to which you refer at Rog's blog) in which American GIs kill the entire Nazi hierarchy in WWII? It's a good movie, and a flag waver at that.

Anonymous said...

At council meetings, he sits during the prayer and stands during the pledge. What's the issue?

Anonymous said...

If Rog's movie is a flag-waver, then why would he call it a better choice for Memorial Day? A better choice than what, going to the cemetery and acknowledging the sacrifices of others?

No, I checked out that post and it came across the same way to me as it did to our friend whose dad died in Vietnam. It's rude to make such snarky comments. Rog is rude and disrespectful.

Anonymous said...

Post a new story. What's new in New Albany ???

Anonymous said...

Flooding. Oh wait, that's old.

Anonymous said...

I wonder what Gahan's future son in law did this morning when the rain came? If you ask me that job is a joke! Is his job to make sure that the river doesn't flood the city or that rain water doesn't? Because if the Flood Control Supervisor does not have to worry about anything except for the river flooding, it does not sound like that is much of a "job" for the $45,000 salary.

Downtown NA has had problems with flooding for years. Who is in charge of that?

Anonymous said...

If it costs money to fix then nobody. If all your gonna do is complain then anyone employed by the City of N. A. Sound good ? Or normal !!!

There doesn't seem to be anything interesting to talk about around New Albany these days. Just the same old comments and criticisms. At this rate, it is going to be a long, boring summer. We need another juicy scandal. If you know of any new ones, please share.

No new scandels Post a new story about anything.

yes, this site has died! very boring!!!

Anonymous said...

Nobody has noticed Pat McLaughlin and Carl Malysz sitting together at the country club? They been doing it more and more often. Any idea what they keep talking about? Gotta wonder.

Anonymous said...

They are talking about leaving nNew Albany, Carl is selling his house, Ed Clere is selling his house, Pat would be next but wants to hang onto the4th District...it's an urban flight to Floyds Knobs.

Anonymous said...

send Gahan packing

Anonymous said...

McLaughlin and Malysz have been meeting for years. What's new about that?

Your paranoid. What do you think they could be plotting? Stealing money from the library now? How about lifting some extra funding from the Farmer's Market? Where are they stealing from next? Do tell us.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, I meant, "You're paranoid."

Anonymous said...

I think they are just having a drink and talking about what's on the stupid blogs in New Albany

Anonymous said...

Totally untrue about the Clere's moving from their New Albany residence. I just spoke to Mrs Clere who couldn't believe such a ridiculous post showed up. Not true

Anonymous said...

I heard that Ed has obtained special permission to move his family into the Culbertson Mansion.

Anonymous said...

McLaughlin meeting with Carl he has always been led around by his nose. That will never change what the administration tells him he thinks is bible.

Anonymous said...

McLaughlin is led around by Larry Kochert who not only tells him how to vote, but also how to think on every issue that comes along.
The residents of the 4th District had an opportunity to dump Pat last year..no dice...thanks Dave Matthews and the lack of GOP party support in the city.

Anonymous said...

I heard it wasn't Clere selling his house, it was his failure to sell houses. He'll need a better paying job up in the republican system.

Anonymous said...

Shame on you people putting such nonsense on here.

Anonymous said...

It must not be nonsense your reading it!!!

Anonymous said...

There is no nonesense in the following information:

1. There is zero GOP support from the party from the party "leadership"for what goes on in the city. Dave Matthewss has been interested since 2008 in beating Charles Frieberger for Commissioner (beleive me, he's obsessed)
2. The fiscal irresponsibility of the Council, sleazy back door deals still going on under Gahan, strangleholds of the unions...we need conservative GOP elected officials in our city.

Wake up New Albany and smell the Bank Street Brewhouse aromas!!

Anonymous said...

Anyone get a call about the last poll? Seems like Mayor Jeffrey wants to know how's he doing as mayor. My opinion:

Once a liar always a liar. You suck Mayor Jeffrey.

Anonymous said...

What's this I hear about Rog taking over as the new city attorney?

Anonymous said...

Just because something is on here doesn't make it anything resembling truth. The day I wake up and smell the aroma of the Bank Street Swill House, is the day I move out of town. As for the phone poll, I'm not so sure it's Jeffey. Seems to me like it might be England trying to see if Jeffey's doing as good as he did at mayor. I took the poll and I gave them an ear full.

Anonymous said...

I told them that Jeffey's lame but he's better than having a crook in office.

Anonymous said...

For your information, moron, having Jeffey IS like having a crook in office. Who do you think Jeffey answers to? Who do you think is telling him what to do all the time? You think Nash, England, Wilcox, and all the rest don't have their grubbers all over Jeffey's daily doings? Think again.

Anonymous said...

I don't know who is right here, but I do know one thing: Nobody will be persuaded by being called a moron. By using such a sophomoric insult, you have undermined any validity that your point may have had.

Anonymous said...

Live at 5 sucked

Anonymous said...

This used to be a really interesting and topical blog regarding New Albany. What happened to turn it into a bash Roger Baylor/bash Dave Matthews/bash Jeff Gahan vent site? Could the web administrator possibly start a new thread about something pertinent about the city? What about the summer activities (or lack thereof) of our city? Just sayin'

Anonymous said...

"Live at Five" was great...nice to have a new event and something to do on Friday nights this summer. We are looking forward to the next one. Stay home and blog your same boring lies instead.

Anonymous said...

I saw that little weasel State Trooper Stensen last night. I would like to know why police officers don't have to follow speed limit laws. He was at the intersection of e.oak and pearl. took off and was doing 60 easy. That guy has killed downtown businesses.

Yes it is. I'm suprised the fire bugs in new albany have not set up shop back there. Take a bulldozer, level the whole place and make it a park.

Me too 2:51. Freedom Of Speech deals with the real issues in New Albany. BTW, anyone get a letter from Mayor Gahan? I heard about it maybe Kitchen Table can get their hands on a copy. Just might be interesting to read.

There might be something wrong with Baylor, smoozing up Todd Young. Can't imagine why he'd do that, being as Baylor hates Republicans. Oh, no. He likes Republicans who spend their money on his stupid swill. I get it.
