This blog is trying to figure out the insanity behind Shane Gibson's contract. (We'll be publishing the contract soon for all to read - no offense Mr. Gibson, nothing personal - it's just taxpayers' money.)
If Mr. Gibson's contract shows him making $12,500.00 per month as a contracted employee this adds up to $150,000 per year. Add the Insurance for he and his family and we are probably around $180,000.00 per year.
The first problem we are having is a contract employee making that much money and not paying for their own insurance. The second problem is reading how a second-class city, such as Jeffersonville, only spending an average of $239,000.00 per year for the last two years on legal fees. We not only had Mr. Gibson, we also had Mr. Greg Fifer, Mr. Lorch, and Mr. Lewis (for the NAPD) and who knows how many others.
We resent former Mayor England telling the Council Mr. Gibson would not receive any perks/benefits if the Council agreed to the salary stated publicly. Did the City Council's Attorney have a chance to review the contract? If so, he would have noticed the Insurance added onto the bottom of the contract. What the heck?

I think this will reflect badly on Gahan if he does not fire Stan. If he doesn't, it is a sign he condones and owns what Stan did and whatever Stan does in the future. Why would the leader of our city want to endorse someone who starts a shoving match? It sends the wrong message to the public and all city employees about accountability and is not the way Gahan should want his administration to appear.

Of course, to read it, you'd think Coffey is really on top of things. HA! Hardly. It is citizens who care about the people who live here that are on top of this matter, and, yes, VICKI DENHART!!!!!!!! I'm so glad she stood up to tell the people all about it. Kudos to VICKI!!!!!!

I think dan is doing the right thing and is raising valid questions. The administration should be able to provide answers or dan wouldnt have to get others involved. Ive questioned dan in the past but now I am reconsidering my opinion because of this and considering how he apparently is the one who stopped robison from going from shoving to a real brawl. He seems to have an eye for doing the right thing.
Real question here is: What would people consider a fair contract? Never met an attorney that everyone loved their fees. I think the salary was a little high but not completely out of line considering full time and closure of private practice, plus experience. With that, what do you think it should have been? Lots of criticism but no standards to measure by except imagination.
Coffey hasn't hasn't had a valid question in over eight years. This is somemore of his old crap. He thinks only of himself just ask the folks on Brooker Lane.

This thing with Gibson is bad enough as far as him being grossly overpaid. Add to that the fact that he's a very iffy lawyer and you've got additional questions about his pay. In fact I remember when they picked Gibson out of some of our youth and started grooming him to be in the big time. I wondered at the time why they didn't pick his brother, Shawn who was smarter and seemed more like he would be a good Democrat. But no they picked the stupid brother. I don't say this to be mean.
