I already did. I voted for: 'My Man Jeff!' I also voted for three Council members At-Large and believe me none of them were England.

Mr. Bagshaw, Thank you for your last minute desperate appeal and continued bashing of your opponent. That really is quite bright, articulate, and well educated of you.

My entire family voted early (all five of us) We support and "we all back Jeff."

22 voters @ NAHS, Slate Run big turn out, GreenValley good turn out, Highrise 27 voters by 6:30am.
Georgetta complaining about signs at one localtion.
We at CFA passed 5,000 flyers out against Jack (We Don't Back Jack) and Doug (What England doesn't want the voters to know). England might have astopped the letter from being put in the News and Tribune but we had 30 people passing it out.

Vote Smart New Albany!

Mickey Thompson was spotted in a city truck putting England signs up at the polls. That's a No-No Mayor England. Shame on you.

Did we take a picture? Cell phone, cell phone.

Big explosion in alley between Spring and E Market. Worker hurt, looks like two houses involved in flames. More in a little.

Anonymous said...

Explosion blew side of house out and house was completely engulfed. Not sure if gas line was hit or a meth lab exploded. WDRB on the way.

Anonymous said...

Was a gas line workers hit working on the sidewalks. Blew a house apart, at least five taken to hospital.

UPDATE: Messer names Randy Smith as Deputy Mayor.

28% voter turnout. Awful.

Anonymous said...

28% turnout??? Shame on 72% of New Albany voters. We live in a free country where men and women have fought and died to give us the right to vote. If you don't vote you can't bitch!!!!!

Got the biggest shock from Dan Coffey. Second biggest from Bob Caesar. Very strange day.

Anonymous said...

Wow. What a day! I agree that it's been strange, 5:12. I've been checking the newspaper, Clerk's website, the blogs. Fluffinstuff's already trying to connect the city elections with his favorite crush, Rep. Clere. He's also (gently) poking fun at Messer by calling his website about already being mayor "poignant." I think he thought his second favorite crush, Jessica, would win. I did too. Amazing that Wilkinson ended up at the bottom of the barrel in her race. Amazing also about Rutherford. I thought he'd win.

What was it Smith and Messer said: I'll be working full-time on planning the hand-off from the England administration to the Messer administration.

You were right Mr. Baylor you have NO clue what was in the making and has been, you do not know what's going on.

Anonymous said...

Let's keep them guessing.

YAY for Shirley!

And, for sure, Baylor's clueless. I had the election pretty well pegged. Only surprise was Blair. I thought Wilkinson would win.

Anonymous said...

I'm so excited for Jeff! Go GAHAN! Now, watch out for the vultures.

Baylor's all over the place. Seems like he wonders about Blair. Doesn't he know Blair's the Republican? I forget the whole story but he's the one who couldn't run in one district so he ran in another. Something like that.

Glad, of course, for Vicky. I'm REALLY glad about Phipps! He ran a hard campaign. Wish we'd seen more turnover in the Council, but OK, I guess.

Baylor's a crackpot. I read that crap about Clere's coattails. Clere's in a league all by himself. Roger's a loon.

New Albany deserves everything it gets you keep electing same people you get the same results

Anonymous said...

I STILL SAY SHIRLEY IS DUMMER THAN A BOX OF ROCKS.

Anonymous said...

Hats off to Denhart, she bought our new mayor his very first beer (as Mayor) tonight.
Btw, did you all know Vicki and Jeff are very good friends?
See, some of you learned something new tonight.

We backed Jeff.

Anonymous said...

I think Jeff will do great after he finds our money.

Anonymous said...

Vicki may have stumbled up to the podium and set a beer down, and Jeff thanked her for the gesture, but the beer is still sitting right where she left it...untouched

Anonymous said...

You're nasty, Roger. Always picking on the little guy.

Anonymous said...

7:09, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Obviously, you didn't want Shirley to win, but there is no reason to slam her, and she is not stupid.

Grow up.

This took awhile to scan and put in word form, but was worth doing. You'll see some interesting numbers:

What Doug England doesn't want you the voter to know....

You may have heard about our citizens' watchdog group. My name is Vicki Denhart, president of Citizens for Accountability.

This is the most important elections in New Albany. If we don't vote it could cost us dearly over the next 4 years.

As you know Mayor England is running for City Council At-Large. During the last four years he has misled all of us. We currently live in a city where certain people don't have to pay sewer bills, parking tickets, some developers don't have to pay for permits and receives sewer hookups for free.

In addition, our city finances have been mismanaged under Mayor England's watch. Everything written here can be verified through the State Of Indiana - State Board of Accounts Audits at http://www.in.gov/sboa

This is what we want to share with you the voters::

2008 Audit:

The cash balances of the following funds were overdrawn:
General Fund ................................. $4,108,598
Motor Vehicle Highway.................... $114,951
Park and Recreation........................ $208,008
TIF Park East Industrial .................. $861,623
Redevelopment - Charlestown Road - $1,230
Fire Pension - $596,125

Appropriations:

The records presented for audit indicated the following expenditures in excess of budgeted appropriations:
General Fund................. $1,294,292
Motor Vehicle Highway... $300,745
Stormwater ................... $1,575,556
Communications............ $65,000
Street Maintence............ $2,882
Fire Contract Runs ........ $78,092
Total Misappropriations... $3,316,567.00

Overpayments of $324,045 were made to various vendors. As of Sept. 29, 2009, $61,134 has "not yet been refunded."

2009 Audit

Overdrawn Cash Balances
The cash balances of the following funds were overdrawn in 2009:
General Fund .............. $5,343,770
Parks and Recreation ...$330,315

City of New Albany wrote off $100,000 Sewer Debt and over $700,000 in sewer bills not collected. During 2009, $99,817 in delinquent wastewater fees and penalities were written off to bad debt as a result of liens not being recorded against the properties.

2010 Audit

Overdrawn Cash Balances
The cash balances of the following funds were over drawn in 2010:
General Fund....................$2,296,002
Motor Vehicle Highway......$232,954
Park & Recreation.............$159,654
Sanitation.........................$5,636,473

Over the last four years Mayor England has mismanaged and committed malfeanses according to the State Board of Accounts Audits, when he spent our tax dollars without Council's approval.

England has also stated: the only reason he's running is for healthcare.

Do you really want Mayor Douglas B. England sitting on the council At-Large spending all your hard earned tax dollars?

We don't and neither should you!

Sincerely,

Vicki Denhart
President
Citizens for Accountability

That is interesting, 6:30. Are you sure it's all correct? Seems like a lot of money and if it's accurate, it's a very bad situation for our city's finances.

Vicki Denhart has worked very hard to speak up for the little guy and she's been constantly forced to go head to head with some of New Albany's most vicious attack dogs. Not a very pleasant situation for her, I imagine.

Last night, I was at the K of C, and I saw our Mayor-elect Jeff Gahan up there kind of dry-mouthed and having a hard time speaking. Vicki showed him an act of kindness that told me more about her than any other thing she has ever done when she took Jeff a beer and put it up there for him. Jeff was overwhelmed and thanked her, but seemed to be in such a state of euphoria that he talked and forgot all about the beer. I said something to him about it later and he nodded and beamed.

Unbeknownst to a lot of us, Jeff and Vicki have been very close friends for a long time, and I suspect he owes his victory to her and to her phalanx of supporters and helpers who were there last night.

I can't say enough about Vicki, and I'm SO EXCITED that Jeff has won! All this seems to be an indicator of a new direction for our city. We at our house are looking forward to a better and a truly progressive New Albany!!

Amen, 8:22.

Anonymous said...

Give it a break about Vickie did you also notice the beer
Was still sitting there when he walked away

Anonymous said...

I just went back and checked...the beer is still there

Anonymous said...

That's bull and you know it.

Anonymous said...

6:30 am. I checked out the above information just for the hell of it and it's all true.

I was also at the K of C on election night. She bought him his first beer after being elected Mayor, he thought it was great (his words not mine), he told me he saved the can. Full or empty, I say what's the big deal?

Anonymous said...

A new mayor does not need to be handed a beer while speaking to the voters. But that is Vickie mind set.
Did he pull away driving his car also?
