WHAT'S UP?

We watched the news the other night and the follow up about New Albany's Parking tickets and Mr. Beardsley.  The news flash we heard concerned how the third biggest accumulator of parking tickets was in a "trust" name and the Police couldn't track the owner of the vehicle.  Hmmmm.  What is wrong with this picture?  May we have a license plate the Police can't trace or identify?

We heard through our Council rep Council approved tax abatements for CHODO.  Are you kidding us?  My family will be signing up Tuesday morning.

What got me with this is that this is news someone reported on here about 6 months ago, not long after it happened. They said that Beardsley and Gibson made a deal.

It's all about making deals in this city.

BTW, I sat near Fluffinstuff the other day and figured out why he keeps that goatee. It's to hide his double or triple chins. I sat there and took a good look and realized the beer's really settling down in old Baylor's face and gut. THAT'S why the ugly goatee.

Anyone who thinks there's not shameless waste going on in City Government is walking around with blinders on.

We should all go to the Council and ask for tax abatements on our homes.

We should demand "equal rights" for all property owners in New Albany.

We spend $35,000 for two new cars to follow the street sweepers but we don't have $15,000 to clean up the Aug. storm limbs.

Go figure.

If certain taxpayers on Main Street paided their fair share of taxes we could afford to have brush and tree limbs picked up.

I don't mind Frank's Steakhouse as long as he doesn't sell that domestic swill from Bank St. So long as he refuses to sell the swill, I say, Frank, bring on the steak!

Frank's poorman steakhouse, low quality steaks served with salads made from old lettuce pieces and dinner rolls being last weeks stale hamburger buns.

Not obsessed with Baylor. He's the one who writes his opinion all over the place, as if we care a hoot about what he thinks. He's got more toxicity in his swill than there is crap in the Ohio River. No obsession here. If Roger dried up and blew away, I don't think any of us would miss him.

Sherman Minton bridge shut down; crack found in bridge.

No doubt the crack was put there by the westend drug dealers who travel over here to sell their dope.

Here comes the tolls folks, maybe Rog can get a job in the toll booth?

Why are we paying overtime for NAPD directing traffic? Put barriers up closing off the ramp. These SOB don't need NO more overtime.

Anonymous said...

They probably got overtime pay for the hours they sat in traffic just to get to town from their homes located everywhere but in New Albany.

Anonymous said...

Wow. Bridge closed. online bellyaching from Roger. The sky has fallen!

Of course, we don't need any new bridges, do we Rog? After all the waiting they've done because of you bellyachers, we're now really are f'd, aren't we?

I work over in Louisville every day. Every day, I get to traipse over to I65 and sit in THAT traffic. The Sherman Minton was always lighter traffic and you get over faster. Now, no dice. I'm upset about the bridge, but, while it's a pain, better be safe than sorry.

Interesting how Rog's only thought is how people won't come across the other bridge to his business. He sure lacks confidence in his business, doesn't he? You'd think they'd come anyway if his swill was that good.

Well, I got on here to talk about the traffic patterns, but I see that you all are still talking about the same ole, same ole. Not worth joining the conversation.

When someone thinks the entire world should and does revolve around him, why do you keep talking about him?

Talk about real issues. Things that are important around here.

Just my humble suggestion.

Anonymous said...

OK I'll talk about traffic patterns. I went to work at friggin' 5:45 so I could get thear at 6:30. Guess what I was late. Should've left a half an hour earlier. This is crap. Luckily I got let off early today to get home and glad I did becaue now I am home and I got here fast. Good thing. I was pretty sick and tired of sitting in my d--ned car. And by the way, a lot of other people are out there leaving early too.

I see the business owners are having a meeting at the Grand this morning. That's all well and good but what the downtown businesses need to do is cut their prices of services and goods.

Who WANTS to pay $2.50 for a half cup of cold coffee or up to $30.00 for a pizza, or $5.00 for a pint of beer?

This administration has spent hundreds of thousands of our tax dollars on downtown and if others had their way it would be millions.

They claim downtown is booming but every year they close up and move. Maybe they think we're buying into this, but we're not.

I hope the next council an new Mayor puts the citizens first and has the guts to deal with the real issues and the real problems.

I ask all readers of Kitchen Table to support and vote for Jeff Gahan.

Diane Baylor's exact words to me.

Anonymous said...

Who ever the borrower is? That's who has to pay back the loan. If the business defaults, the lender can pursue the collateral.
No business owner should never place their home or family in that kind of position.

Rule of thumb; if anything can happen, it will happen when you're a business owner.

Anonymous said...

Who is Diane Baylor? Is that the drunk city councilwoman?

Anonymous said...

6:15- whoever you are, way to betray someone who it appears told you something in confidence (if that's even true.) What a fabulous friend you must be.

To the rest- if you don't want to pay for quality coffee or beer, totally cool...then I'd say the meeting had nothing to do with marketing to people like you. HOwever, there are many Southern Indiana folks who DO pay that, and would previously travel to Louisville to do so. So, the local businesses are marketing to THEM. Don't like it? No one is asking you to buy. Go wherever it is that you usually go.

Oh, and 5:44- you do realize that Gahan is a big supporter of buying local, right? So, if you think he's going to buy into your 'everything sucks and everybody sucks and I want the mayor to only take care of the things I deem worthy', you have a big surprise coming.

The day when Roger Baylor starts thinking we're all reading his garbage because he thinks he's the standard bearer of all things true is the day I'm laughing my head off.

Why do we visit Baylor's stupid blog? So we can see what evil hatred he's spewing forth this time. And why do we care about that? Because he plays into Doug England's hands every time he posts, even when they're at odds, and he has NO IDEA.

Maybe, 7:39, it's Baylor, the one who was "dense" in the post above. Now, there's a thought for the day.

This is not true.

Tax abatements are a phase in of new, higher property assessments.

The CHDO is a non-profit organization. It always was a non-profit. Just like every church or other non-profit in town, they never had to pay property taxes. That's state law. Always has been. There was no special abatement for the CHDO.

I do not thank the ones who voted against at all. Your still missing the boat it's about increasing service for us. A bridge to the future.

Tea party doesn't want to maintain any bridges for any future, literal or figurative.

Indiana has 50% more bridges than KY yet spent less than half what KY spent last year on bridge maintenance. Daniels method of making the books look balanced is called deferred maintenance.

That being the case, Gillenwater is Bitchipoo to Baylor's pimp name FLUFFinstuff. Now that that's settled, why not talk about the last city council meeting. Interesting votes on the 911 merger not happening. What do you all think?

Anonymous said...

I agree 8:36, the city should get the entire $900K and use it to run our part of the 911 merger. If NOT walk away. As they say been there done that with County promises. They screwed us on the parks, just walk away and cut our losses.

Anonymous said...

They sure did. New Albany gets screwed again and again and no one seems very bothered by it. Do people really think this is no big deal?

Anonymous said...

Time to talk issues. Which candidate is actually going to do something about cleaning up this cess pool of a city? England campaigned on it as mayor last year and didnt follow through. Cant count on him to do it as a councilman. Are there any out there that will actually do something instead of making broken campaign promises?

Anonymous said...

911 deal lost my vote after they agreed to allow the union. They will not save money as long as they have the union. Cant blame the County for not wanting to pony up more money when benefits provided by the City to these workers is outrageous and drives the cost up. Anyone who has actually read the contract knows it. City can save money on their own if they would just deal with the ridiculous benefits provided to these call center employees.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone in the county pay a tax that city residents don't pay?

They way I see it, if you live anywhere in Floyd Co., you pay Tax A. If you live in New Albany, you pay Tax A plus Tax B.

Then why do county officials think the city could pay half for everything like parks and 911? These are services that serve everyone in the county equally. Shouldn't they be paid equally by everyone in the county? If you live in New Albany, you're paying twice. You pay your half for the city and then part of your half for being a county resident.

Anonymous said...

The price you pay for choosing to live in the City. Most county people dont want to pay for the outrageous benefits that the city provides to it's union employees. Take a look, big difference in contracts between City and County. Why should the county be forced to pay for the lack of leadership and budget control of the city?

Anonymous said...

@8:55 obviously you dont get it.

the city will pay for purely city services, like city police and other city employees who don't leave the city.

your "point" doesn't address the real problem, city taxpayers pay more than their fair share for services they should be getting from the county, like parks, library, 911...

Anonymous said...

republicans will say no one could have seen issues with sherman minton.

real issue is fact that indiana has cut bridge maintenance funding dramatically, spending less than half per bridge what kentucky spends.

In New Albany, the Citizens don't get what they pay for! Thats been the whole problem. Wake up fools. Just because you pay more for something does'nt mean you get better. In New Albany, if you pay more, it just means more that will be wasted. We need real leadership.

Anonymous said...

Blaming the Tea Party for any of this is completely ridiculous. The Tea Party hasn't had anything to do with the failure to build bridges 20 years ago. It hasn't had anything to do with the current situation of Indiana's infrastructure. It's got nothing to do with a certain city public official skimming off the top every chance he gets and coming up with bogus projects so he can collect more. It's also got nothing to do with New Albany city streets being closed forever and ever, only to MAGICALLY get finished just in time for, guess what: the GENERAL ELECTION!

Blaming the Tea Party, blaming Republicans, and sending people to read "fluffer" satire is the same crock of crap we New Albanians ALWAYS get: empty air. And, just like the fart your comments on here are, it STINKS!

Keep playing the blame game, folks. Keep sticking your head in your ideological sand. And don't bother to wake up. We've got plenty of people who'll keep doing that for you, and in the meantime, better hope that New Albany doesn't implode before then.

It's rather scary that we are debating whether millionaires should pay as much tax, on a percent basis, as normal people. Millionaires should pay a much higher percentage of their income (from all sources) than we do. This would not deter initiative, since they would still get to keep the lion's share. One must remember that the profits of entrepreneurship are only possible because government and society exist to provide a stable, safe and fair context in which to operate. For everyone. Successful entrepreneurship requires not just individual talent but also a fair and prosperous society, which is why America was once so dynamic.

Anonymous said...

Yes, it IS rather scary that we are debating whether millionaires should pay as much tax, on a percent basis, as normal people. Considering that a full 40% of people living and accepting benefits on the public dole pay $0--and keep mooching for more--I'm concerned that we think it's fair for people to pay more just because they make more.

You liberals justify this somehow, but since I'm in the highest tax bracket already and am NOT rich, I'm just not so sure how much more you're going to squeeze out of this turnip in order for people giving ZERO to our society to keep on getting more so that you can keep your conscience clean that YOU'VE helped the poor.

Yes, the whole thing sure is very, very scary.

Anonymous said...

Considering that a full 40% of people living and accepting benefits on the public dole pay $0

If you pay social security taxes your whole working life, there's no problem with you accepting social security once you retire and no longer pay taxes. That's how it's supposed to work. Do you expect people with no income to pay taxes?

If you make $40,000/yr., you pay a higher tax rate (almost double) what someone making $40,000,000/yr/ makes.

Do defend that statistic, Tea fascist!

Guess what, ding dong, I'm retired and still pay taxes. Are you saying I should stop doing it?

Anonymous said...

if your only income is social security you dont have to file taxes. if you have extra income good for you. but just saying people are lazy because they receive public benefits and don't pay taxes really misses the point.

Anonymous said...

If his income is more than social security, good for him. Not only that, he did what he had to to stay afloat. Why wouldn't anyone try to do this?

Everyone who receives public benefits is not lazy. But many, MANY people who do ARE lazy. So, if you think otherwise, YOU miss the point. I agree with 6:51. It seems to me that everyone ought to be paying the very same percentage. If everyone paid, say, 10 percent, EVERYONE, then we'd find that we have more money than we do getting nothing from some and a huge amount from a VERY FEW millionaires. JMHO

Anonymous said...

Ten percent of 20K though takes a much bigger hunk of money for a family that's barely making the bills...that's $2000. So, now they're paying rent, food, health care, etc out of 18,000- that's a pretty tough proposition.

Someone that makes $20,000,000 taxed at 10% is $2,000,000- and yep, that's a lot of money to go to the government- BUT, it still leaves $18,000,000 for rent, food, electricity, health care, etc.

I certainly don't think that they should be penalized for their success (because nobody just inherits that money without doing anything to earn it, right? *sarcasm*) But, the flat tax just doesn't work for middle class or below.

Anonymous said...

It's already a pretty tough proposition for a family to pay rent, food, health care, etc., out of $20,000. Still and all, it would be fair for everyone to pay taxes and it's ridiculous to demand that richer people pay more. You've gotta ask yourself, where does it stop? When the one making $20,000,000 comes closer to making $18,000?

I say we should get rid of all tax shelters and the like. Rich people take advantage of these and the poor do not. But to say to someone rich, you need to give 40% of your income to the poor is just gouging them for no reason other than to assuage our own need to provide for the poor with other people's money. I don't think it's any more right to do that than I think it's right to nickel and dime the poor.

Come up with a more creative, and fair, solution. Then, I think people might take you liberals more seriously. Although I certainly don't consider myself rich (my wife and I make about $70,000 together), we get by and still have no extra. Yet we pay higher taxes than someone making $35,000. Fair? Nope.

Anonymous said...

Though we won't this year, the past several years we were close to what you make, too ( for a family of four). Yes, it's tough...you make it ok though, even with medical debt and credit card debt brought on by medical debt. Oops, digression. But, I would expect to pay more percentage wise in taxes than a family only making 37k, all other things equal. How is that a liberal ideology?

Anonymous said...

You have come to expect to pay more because that has been demanded out of us. I see it as punishment for making more money and I agree with 11:58. It would be good for people to pay something similar in taxes and for ALL to pay them. It would also be fair to get rid of things richer people use to protect their money. They shouldn't have tax shelters. I also think the formula for paying taxes should be easier and more cut and dry. Our government has always made this too confusing and difficult. Clean up the IRS and all their dumb rules and exceptions. I'm not yet 30, but I've already made some bad mistakes and had to pay penalties. I don't try to do my taxes any more, even though I did really well in math all the way through college. It's stupid that it should be so confusing.

Anonymous said...

1:22, I'd be willing change my stance if everything past "It would also be fair..." were included in that new tax code as well. ;)

Anonymous said...

7:41, points well made and I concur.

Anonymous said...

Fluffinstuff's at it again, fluffin' hisself and acting like an #$$.

Anonymous said...

Why would taxpayers want to give the Grand crowd $12K for 'Come to New Albany!' They've pist off most of the citizens here by slamming them on their blogs, now they want us to shop downtown?

Give me a break.

How about giving $8k to find out where our money went and to whom.

Anonymous said...

Amen 9:34, I feel the same way.

Marie Antoinette said it best; Let them (downtown businesses) eat cake.

Anonymous said...

Was anyone here actually at the meeting at the Grand?

Anonymous said...

Oh some of these comments are very true. These blogs take pictures or write about people they see out in the public.
Remember watch Roger's camera!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

If you don't like paying tax a and tax b Coffey move!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I was at the Grand this morning and they did not support Roger like he is saying on his blog and tweets. People just sort of stared at him because I don't think they wanted him to be saying what he was saying. Also, I heard Curt Peters give a pretty definitive "cut it out" to Roger, but did it better than I would have. Roger's a pest.

Anonymous said...

@i'm glad you're focused on what's best for our city (roll eyes)

Anonymous said...

The only people who said anything even remotely in support of Roger was the Antiques Attic woman and Jack Messer. Messer was in full support of Baylor and said we need the slogan "Go to City." Big difference according to Rog, who said that "come" has an especially bad meaning to people in the restaurant business (???). Whatever he meant by that is anybody's guess, but it's probably got some sexual meaning, like he was sort of hinting at yesterday.

Anonymous said...

Heard all about it. Sounds to me like whiny Fluffinstuff's still trying to be the center of attention. Heard that he was fuming that he wasn't invited to the committee meeting. Is that true? Whether true or not, he's a problem child who wants to be a problem child instead of get in with all the others and help. Here's someone who loudly dumped DNA and 1SI (after accepting financial help from them), and just goes on his blog and spits out hatred against the hand that fed him. Now, he's warning his little gang of groupies that there will be "retribution." And all the while, he's putting up dull pictures of the dull powerpoint presentation he apparently saw this morning to prove how stupid the ideas are that do not originate with Roger.

See how everything has to circle around one individual or he'll take his ball and go home? I'm glad I wasn't at that meeting. I would have wanted to probably have it out with him and probably embarrassed the whole group.

Anonymous said...

I hope Roger pist off the whole group. Maybe they'll have a bouncer at the next meeting and keep him out of it.

Anonymous said...

@1:59, if you're focused on what's good for this city, you'd know that people who complain about everyone else and storm out of meetings and rewrite history trying to prove they're the only smart ones in the room ISN'T what we need around here. JMHO.

Anonymous said...

someone on this site never misses a chance to bash baylor. he must have gotten you good once...or ten times.

Anonymous said...

Too bad you missed the big yelling match at City Council. You'd know Baylor for his true colors. He's sick and he's nasty.

Anonymous said...

This is why no one wants to get involved I wish he would just tend to his own business. Rog you just need to be quiet for awhile. You are not representing our community very good. Make your business successful and leave the rest alone!!!!!
But I don't think you can stay out of it

Anonymous said...

Amen, 3:21.

Anonymous said...

He can't stay out of it. He's a control freak. And, if you think Baylor's gotten ME once or twice your crazy. I've met Baylor once at Richo's and he wouldn't even remember my name much less "get" me.

Anonymous said...

Roger was RIGHT. Many may not have liked his delivery- but he was RIGHT. You may not like it- you may not like HIM, and it may be easier to live in a world full of rainbows, butterflies, and puppies flying out of your but, but he's RIGHT.

Anonymous said...

i can sum up ever post ever made on this blog as follows.

1. baylor's bad
2. england's bad
3. obama's bad

still no one has anything new to say.

Anonymous said...

since when is bitching about baylor going to solve one problem in this town?

Anonymous said...

You know, I wasn't there, but if Roger said what I was told he said, he wasn't right. Roger is of the mistaken belief that Roger and his particular clique is THE "grassroots" group in the area. All others are somehow the established, rich, greedy oligarchs. Roger deals with this belief by making fun of outsiders and calling them names like "oligarchs," which I assume he had to look up just like the rest of us did.

While he is making fun of these people, he is pushing them away, alienating the very people who are in business just like he is. I read Curt Peters' name on here. He's pretty much a normal, hard-working, honest guy of the highest caliber of integrity, who I would call a simple "grassroots" businessman. I don't know who else was there, but I can't see any reason whatsoever for Baylor to separate himself from them.

Baylor's problem isn't his delivery (well, actually, that's part of it), but it's his hard-headed obstinate behavior. It's his egocentric tendencies and his social immaturity. It's his insistence on his own rightness and his way of defining people and their motives by making fun of them publicly and by retelling history falsely, making sure everything he says is convenient for his own definition of who or what a person and his contribution to society may be. He is, at the very least, disingenuous, and a coward.

It looks like you subscribe to his way of thinking, 6:10, having told us that we "live in a world of rainbows, butterflies, and puppies flying out of [our] but (sic)." So, I don't know why I'm bothering to answer your post. But I feel it necessary to say here and now that Roger is not right. Not at all. His delivery was possibly rough, I have nothing against him that he hasn't brought on himself, and his ideas could be right, but only if he could accept that other people in other groups, bungling as they may be, are to be valued and not treated badly. I may be young, but even I know that.

Anonymous said...

i can sum up 99% of the posts ever made on this blog as follows:

1. baylor's bad.

okay. we get it. you don't like baylor.

saying it a 20th, 21st, and 22nd time won't make it more true than the first time you said it.

next subject anyone?

Anonymous said...

Only one thing more needs to be said: Roger's strange obsession with semen means that all those sauces he offers with his French Fries are suspect. Since he himself insists that semen has something strongly connected with restaurants, he might have something "special" in his sauces. Just a friendly warning.

Anonymous said...

@7:40 you have a sick mind.

Anonymous said...

You think he has a sick mind because he understands Roger? Yell right! Roger's the one sayin all this crap. His ideal in the first place. Roger's the sicko.

Anonymous said...

Here's a dumb question: WHAT are you all talking about?

Anonymous said...

Their talking about Roger and his wannabea hippy crap. Ignore it. There's more important stuff going on.

Anonymous said...

Well, Roger may not be important, but what he says does affect the thinking of all who read his blog and he knows this. Now he's got the bunker mentality. He's talking about hostile takeovers and flushing local leaders (I assume down the toilet). Obviously a nice guy.

Anonymous said...

I want to know what Cheif Bailey is going to do about the sign stealing that's going on. Its worse than it ever was before.

Anonymous said...

Well everyone still talking about you know who and Coffey still complaining too.
How about the mayoral debate tomorrow night. Anyone going?
Do watch the person you our talking about I heard he endorsed Gahan. What has he been promised.

Anonymous said...

Heard John Gonder is on Rogers blog what is wrong with him. He must be running scared you want to see certain things how about save the city some $$$$. In 4 years you haven't. Your chance was when you were president of the council another do nothing long 365 days. You and Carl!!!!
Enough said.

Anonymous said...

Heard a good one today Coffey paid Vickie to run so he could win.

Anonymous said...

wonder how many hours the attorney charged the city to do research for baylor? guess this means baylor will be passing out handbills at harvest promoting his swill. oink oink

Anonymous said...

I'll take a hammering for this, but the only way to break up the bullies in power is to elect the Republican. What's his name?

Anonymous said...

Baylor's so busy trying to make a case out of some dumb handbills being handed out. Don't think for a minute that his innocent tweet to our beloved Shaney Boy means that he doesn't understand. He understands. He's just trying to make a case against HHC. God, the moron's constantly trying to ruffle feathers.

Anonymous said...

Can we make it to 200 comments of total inanity? Surely.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Rog, we can.

Anonymous said...

Yawn.

Anonymous said...

If Fluffinstuff keeps making his vows, threats and pledges, we'll all have to wonder why we even bother to include him in DNA events. Extend the hand and get bitten.

Anonymous said...

I hope you read the paper today coffey wanting Baylor on committee for UEZ. Whoooooo Coffey is scared. Watch the copperhead. Coffey feeling important feed him with a spoon. Just a matter of time UEZ watch out make sure his meds have been taken. Go Todd Coleman

Anonymous said...

Yes I did Coffey has never stood up for downtown in his life he is hypocrite big time. Bashing all the bars and restaurants. I am down here I know!

Anonymous said...

Messer is promising everything to everybody. Sounds like he learned a few things from Doug. I'm going with Gahan and I am putting my money where my mouth is.

Anonymous said...

Everyone knows Dan Coffey cheated to win the last primary and so does three quarters of the first district.
Denhart won that election and we all know it.

Anonymous said...

@2:17 yeah, how could she not with all that help from CFA's thirty staff members? hehe

Anonymous said...

Coffey and Baylor make strange bedfellows. How many postings has Rog attacked Coffey over the last five years? Roger quit DNA and UEZ. Now Coffey wants to nominate Rog?

Hodge for District 1

Anonymous said...

Gahan has promised NO one a job. Messer has promised what he can't deliver.

Why would we want a 'racist cop' for Mayor?

Not me.

Anonymous said...

Bye, Bye, Dan.

Anonymous said...

Me either, anonymous 2:51

Anonymous said...

I'd pay to see Danny Boy and Rog in bed. Heck, we should make it pay-per-view!

Anonymous said...

I am stocking up on popcorn and other selected snacks and beverages. I LOVE it when the fit hits the shan. It's going to be a very intersting winter when several businesses fold downtown.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Denhart DEFINITELY won that race. In reality. In Cheaterland, obviously, she didn't. Something's VERY wrong with that picture, don'tcha think?

Anonymous said...

Went to the mayoral debates tonite. Pretty dull group, if you wanna know the truth. Keister makes me think he's spent a lot of time with a bong. Messer looked mad. Bagshaw. Let's just say it's not even worth writing his name. Gahan was the clear winner, although he didn't perform as well as I'd expected. You should have heard all of them hem and haw about questions of fiscal responsibility. No one said much of anything.
