TIME TO TELL THE CANDIDATES WHAT THE VOTERS WANT!!

QUICK RECAP OF LAST NIGHT'S SPAGHETTI DINNER (WHAT I SAW OR HEARD - OR AS BAYLOR SAID - MY OPINION).

THE NO SHOWS WERE COFFEY, BENEDETTI, GOLDBERG, TIMBERLAKE, AND ETHERIDGE, BLEVINS, RANDY SMITH, AND CAESAR.  (IF I MISSED ANYONE, HELP  ME OUT.)

GOLDBERG HAD HIS WIFE SPEAK FOR HIM.  BENEDETTI HAD DARRYL MILLS EXPLAIN SHE HAD A SICK AUNT.

WILCOX STILL HAS HIS STUMLER BUTTON ON WHICH IS AGAINST PARTY RULES.  WILCOX IS NOT ALLOWED TO ENDORSE ANYONE - HE IS SUPPOSE TO REPRESENT ALL THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES AND HELP ALL, NOT ONE.

NOT EVERYONE SERVED LAST NIGHT.  ENGLAND AND BAYLOR DID NOT SERVE FOOD.  THOSE TWO PEOPLE WERE TOO BUSY UP EACH OTHER'S YOU KNOW WHAT THUS RENDERING THEM UNABLE TO SERVE.

GLOTZBACH GAVE A GOOD SPEECH.  DENHART GAVE A GOOD SPEECH.  HARRIET SPOKE FOR MAURY STATING HIS FIVE TERMS ON COUNCIL WOULD MAKE HIM A GOOD CLERK.  BAYLOR SIMPLY BASHED ED CLERE, BRIDGE TOLLS AND CARRIED ON ABOUT HOW HIGH HIS PROPERTY TAXES ARE.  THIS AFTER HIM BASHING CITIZENS WHO GOT THE PROPERTY TAX CAP PASSED AT THE STATE LEVEL.  HE SAID NOTHING ABOUT WHAT HE COULD/WOULD DO FOR THE CITIZENS OF NEW ALBANY, NOT EVEN BRINGING UP TWO WAY STREETS.

GAHAN GAVE A GOOD SPEECH.  MCLAUGHLIN SIMPLY TALKED ABOUT HE HAS A FREE RIDE UNTIL THE FALL.  STUMLER SUPPORTS THE BIG DEVELOPMENT DOWNTOWN BY MAINLAND ALONG WITH THE PARKING GARAGE.  ENGLAND SAID THE PARKING GARAGE WILL BE BUILT.  PRICE SPOKE WELL.  PATTI WALKER SAID SHE HAS EXPERIENCE WITH BUDGETS AND FINANCE.  WILKINSON THINKS THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE WOMEN ON THE COUNCIL.  HATFIELD/ROSENBARGER WAS MAD.  GONDER SPOKE WELL.  BAIRD SPOKE WELL.

PHIPPS WANTS TAX ABATEMENTS FOR ANY NEW RESIDENTS WHO MOVE DOWNTOWN AND SUPPORTS THE POLICE AND FIRE.  WE COULD GO ON, BUT YOU GET THE DRIFT.

SHELLEY ENGLAND ANNOUNCED THE MERGER OF THE FLOYD COUNTY DEMOCRAT WOMEN'S CLUB TOGETHER WITH THE FLOYD COUNTY MEN'S CLUB TOGETHER WITH THE FLOYD COUNTY YOUNG DEMOCRATS.

OKAY, NOW IT'S YOUR TURN TO TELL THESE CANDIDATES WHAT YOU WANT FROM THEM AS A VOTER AND AS A TAXPAYER.  GOOD LUCK.

11:44 & 11:45. You are both wrong.

I would like it like this:

1)If you don't live in the city you don't work for the city.

2) Give sewer billing back to Indiana American Water

3) Get a Park District

4) Park them damn Police cars

5) EMC should be bought out, an sanitation should also be brought back in house.

6) Remove Gibson has full time atty, Carl can go work for Bobo, Matt Drnnisn, relieved of position, Garry audited then replaced.

Happy Easter.

the police and fire union should not be endorsing any candidate. any candidate that accepts the unions endorsement will owe them and we the taxpayers will be the ones who have to pay for their pact with the unions.

Anonymous said...

Isn't that the trufers, 2:18! Big time.

Anonymous said...

policemen and fire fighters pay taxes too.

Anonymous said...

police and fire waste more of our taxes than they pay!

Anonymous said...

Yep, and you'll be the first one to piss and moan when your house catches fire and they don't come fast enough.

Anonymous said...

I don't have any problem with supporting police and firefighters. But, I DO have a problem with the unions supporting certain candidates. What happens is that a very few police and firefighters are in on the meeting where the supposed "vote" is taken. In the meantime, they pose and whatever with the candidates they supposedly support. Meantime, individual police and firefighters vote for whomever they want and even make it known far and wide that they do NOT support the "officially supported" candidate.

It's all just a farce. Because what happens is that people are coerced into believing they should endorse this candidate or that.

Of course, this goes for individuals too. But the "police" and "firefighters" doing it makes it sound like they object to the other candidates. It's not true, and, in one famous recent case, they voted in DROVES for the candidate they did not support officially.

Funny, that.

I have a problem with canidates who keep saying we don't have a budget problem. Well, they keep saying that we're not broke. that's a laff. Randy Smith says we're not broke. Yeah, right.

Tonite at the "debate" of the Council canidates, Roger Baylor's big thing was to say loud and clear that we need to not vote for any republicans.

Not much of a plan, HR Fluffinstuff. If you can't work with repulbicans, your going to have difficulty serving the public. You will have republican constituants.

The other thing they all kept talking about was how much they agree with each other and plan to cooperate (I guess only if their are no republicans). Lots of agreement.

Well, I'm up watching the storm coming, so I might as well get on here. Shirley, one thing you said tonight that stayed with me is how you blame the "state" for schools closing and the firing of teachers and that you want to keep our control of these things here.

I work in the school system and I can assure you that our problems have NOTHING to do with the state. Bruce Hibbard likes blaming the state, particularly Mitch Daniels, but it's simply not true.

You don't show much spirit of cooperation either. Obviously, you're also anti-Republican. Automatically.

shirley baird said...

You are rigtht I should have mentioned Mr. Hibbard personally as people who work for the school system did tell me that he was mainly responsible.

The question was concerning gthe state and how it's laws affect the city and how the city should respond. I think the state has too much power over the cities and the cities should pass resultions that make that known.

Anonymous said...

Yes. The problem is that people in the schools were bellowing about the state being at fault for the school closures. I did it too. But, we were only following Hibbard's lead. While he was encouraging us to blame Mitch for huge school cuts, we weren't looking at the facts. In the meantime, Hibbard was riding roughshod over all of us, spending on himself and his administration, while planning to cut another swath into our schools (fire teachers).

I have rethought my own behavior and realize several things. 1. Mitch did not "cut" our schools and he did not "close" our schools. The school closures had been decided well in advance of any cuts. Hibbard simply seized the opportunity for blame when the state cut education (last and the least of any other cuts made).

Furthermore, the way the state has restructured education funding means that we will be BETTER OFF, not worse off. Ed Clere made sure to stay on the fair and dqual funding for all students. He worked like a dog on this. I know it because I was on his case for a long time, complaining that he was gutting schools. That's pretty much what the union told us to say.

Meantime, I started watching the education committee at work. Our very own Ed Clere stayed with the fair funding formula, giving us MORE money because, as he said (over and over again), our students in NAFC don't deserve LESS money than students in Crothersville, Gary, Indianapolis, etc. He stuck with it. I watched him do it, so what I'm saying is (finally) NOT based on hearsay.

I have decided to stop listening to what the unions are trying to get us to say because they want to feed the fat cats in Indianapolis who always vote with them and for them. We've been given the shaft down here. I see that now.

Ironic that it wasn't until we got a REPUBLICAN in that seat that anybody cared about it and did something to make it right.

What I have learned through all this is that it is ignorant to listen to groups who have special interest in these situations and not do my own homework. As I said, I stayed on Clere's ass the entire time he was working in the education committee and voting on the house floor. Then, I decided to stop repeating stuff I kept reading in e-mails and actually watch the guy.

If you had any idea what he's done FOR all of us, you'd stop fussing about "State intervention" because I guarantee you that we're better off now than we've been in my lifetime as an educator. Going through a rough patch, yes. But we're going to get this thing right.

27 said...

Wow, 7:54, that's a pretty powerful statement. I agree with you. Especially the part about watching for yourself instead of letting any certain group with a special interest TELL you what to think and say.

Good comment!

Anonymous said...

7:54, you're right. I don't work in the schools, but I've always sort of followed the same ole, same ole as far as cutting funding to schools. Here's what I've concluded.

The teachers union only wants us to increase funding. If legislators don't increase funding, then they're "against schools." That's what this all boils down to and they convince us that it's true.

We're a bunch of lemmings.

Also, I know Ed and I think he's doing a great job too. Taken a lot of crap from people down here and still doing a good job.

Anonymous said...

Officer Condra needs to do the job that we taxpayers pay her to do instead of stopping at citizens homes that have certain political signs in their yard and telling them that those people are trying to take our benefits away.

Anonymous said...

Officer Hines you need to get your facts right when you try to intimidate other Democrats by telling them that Irv Stumler has never voted Republican.

Anonymous said...

Pat + Stumler = ENGLAND agenda.

Anonymous said...

After reading the endorsements today in the paper, the current fire department employees and the retired employees agreed to NOT endorse ANYONE, let alone mayor. This is NOT the opinion of ALL the employees with Union 410. The majority of the membership of Union 410 do not support these candidates.

Anonymous said...

Mrs. Baird, you need to stop blaming the state for the incompetence of this administration. If you, as a candidate, really understood the issues facing the taxpayers, you would stop blaming the state for the schools and everything else. Call it the way it really is. But then, if you don't understand and know what you're doing, you wouldn't be making the statements you're doing.

Anonymous said...

If you candidates are for or against the parking garage, why don't you have the guts to say it in public?

Anonymous said...

Rog, it's a shame you don't know the issues. It's obvious, when the only thing you can talk about is BEER and REPUBLICANS.

Anonymous said...

If the candidates knew the issues, they could have a halfway intelligent discussion about them. But they don't know them. I don't know who you are that is posting that stuff above, but it was obvious when not a one of them was able to respond with clarity as to what to do to help local poor people.

Real Democrats, they are.

Anonymous said...

Even on Good Friday, some people have to work, Baylor.

Anonymous said...

shirley, better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Shirley's a fool or even sounds like a fool. I DO think there are several candidates that were at that debate last night that are phoney, tho. And there's that one guy, Phipps, who has clearly been taken under the wing of Roger and of Randy. He didn't used to sound like one of them. Now he does.

Anonymous said...

By phony, could you be refering to Randy Smith? He said something about how we need to take care of everyone and have respect for everyone. ROFLMAO. I've seen that pile of @#$% storm out of too many meetings to believe that. What a joke!

Anonymous said...

smith is only looking out for his business, he basically said so in the debate.

Anonymous said...

Well, it's not very PROGRESSIVE of Baylor not to know how to help New Albany's poor people. You can see that he can't identify with them, cant understand their needs, or can't have any PROGRESSIVE ideas as to how to help them.

Then there was Smith, pretending that he cares about everyone in New Albany. Nope. He doesn't. Nuff said.

The New Albanian said...

Randy's answer was quite good, and I wish I'd said it. For those who did not go and did not view the video, i.e., all of you, Randy said that what we should not do is put the poor in danger by closing neighborhood schools, privatizing their lifelines, and other brilliant Republican proposals designed primarily to keep wealth where it is spent on Republicans.

Trognonymous said...

Randy's answer was a bunch of hogwash. Yours was worse.

Anonymous said...

Amen to that, 7:39. I was there. And I know there's a tape. He was as fake as the day was old. And making up stuff about Republicans as usual.

The New Albanian said...

And I know there's a tape.

Of course there's a tape. It was streamed on line, and it is archived on line. The link's at NAC.

I suppose how many votes I get depends on how many 2-to-a-couch, semi-existent renters Steve Price got "registered", how many older folks permitted Anna Schmidt to fill out their ballots, and how many Republicans cross over to vote for Ms. Walker.

Anonymous said...

I would not choose any of the candidates running this time if there was a gun to my head.

Anonymous said...

Roger, when it convenes you, you love to spread hearsay. This crap you're saying about the lovely Anna Schmidt, you'd better find proof, or you may find yourself at the wrong side of a lawsuit. Mrs. Schmidt happens to be a friend and I won't sit here and read your smear campaign without speaking up on her behalf.

All this makes me doubt your accusations against Steve Price too.

You're a disgusting jerk.

Anonymous said...

so typical.

freedom of speech for everyone EXCEPT people you don't like, like unions.

Anonymous said...

Baylor,

You have been trashing the Schmidt's for several years now. Why don't you leave these people alone? They have done nothing to you yet to continue to persecute them.

Anna Schmidt is an honest woman and would never falsify a ballot or a registration.

Anonymous said...

Well said, 3:58. Anna Schmidt has never done what you accuse her of doing. Therefore, I'd be careful about what you say. I, too, have heard this "rumor" from a number of people.

Tsk. Tsk. Roger, I believe your parents taught you better.

Unknown said...

I must weigh in on this one. Anna & Bill Schmidt are the most honorable people anyone could hope to meet.

I cannot understand why anyone would want to start vicious rumors about them or their integrity.

The New Albanian said...

Anna Schmidt is an honest woman and would never falsify a ballot or a registration.

My original comments on Twitter are as follows. As you can see, far from accusing Mrs. Schmidt of falsifying ballots, I was merely crediting her with mastering the traditional Dixiecrat technique of "getting out the vote". Had I been in a mood to accuse, I'd have suggested that some of the old folks voting were already dead ... but I did not.

"Trognonymous mouth breathers at Kitchen Linoleum are scrambling to predict how many votes I'll get next Tuesday.

"The answer depends on how many 2-to-a-couch, semi-existent renters Steve Price got "registered", how many older folks permitted Anna Schmidt to fill out their ballots for them, and how many Republicans devilishly cross over to vote for Patty Walker."

Anonymous said...

Sorry, Fluffinstuff, but you're accusing Anna Schmidt of dishonesty. It's there. Clearly implied.

You'd best be careful.

Thank you, Shirley. Bill And Anna Schmidt are above reproach. Yet the rumor mill has had them supposedly doing all kinds of stuff-having a fake preacher's credentials (false), filling out people's ballots (false), gaining false access so they can do people's absentee ballots (false).

I've been hearing this for many, many weeks. Every single person who has said it has told me it's emanated from Roger and Randy.

They'd best call a halt to this slander.

They lie about everyone, Democrats and Republicans alike. Someone, sometime down the road, is gonna sue them.

The New Albanian said...

I haven't heard the one about fake preacher's credentials. What's that about?

What they're doing is getting out the vote in the old, time-honored fashion. I accept it as the way the game is played, and surely their view of me will inform the advice they give others, no different than the advice I give.

I lament that their view of reality is so backward, but it's a free country, somewhat.

In the end, it's a non-issue, just like most of the non-issues perpetrated by masked cowards without table manners. After all, the really big story here isn't the Schmidts, it's the number of lodgers in a ttypical Price rental property.

But don't worry. There'll be no enforcement.

Anonymous said...

What you fail to understand, Roger, is that YOU are a big part of keeping the old, time-honored morons in office. They use you and you don't even know it. They count on you to say exactly the sorts of things you say. You and Randy have both done it. You spread gossip. It's that simple.

All I have to do is say some small thing on here, and you're blogging it to dozens, tweeting it to hundreds and Facebooking it to thousands.

You appear to think you've managed to slip out of this slander about Anna Schmidt, but you haven't. And turning the "big story" around to Steve Price isn't the answer either.

Don't worry. When you do find out who I am, you'll wish I were still on here just giving you quiet hints on how to behave. I mean no harm to you. But we're never going to get New Albany turned in a fresh, progressive direction with crap like this going on.

Stop criticizing everything people do. Stop gossiping. Stop spreading hearsay. Stop making up things you don't know about and stop repeating the mantras of large groups of people with certain interests. Stop ignoring the bold and truly progressive acts of those who stand alone to do what's right. Stop being a bully.

No one wants to feel anger toward you, but you create the environment, Roger. You create an environment that is toxic and hateful.

Please stop.

You need to be more concerned about under age drinkers at Richo's. Please don't say I have NO idea and I wear a mask. My son bought beer there and is under age.

Wow! 9:17, you really called it on old Fluffinstuff!

He probably spent all day Tweeting to Witchipoo and all his other cronies.

I don't know why you bother to try to get him to stop. Everyone knows he criticizes everyone. Just for sport.

Anonymous said...

LOL. That's true, 9:13, he probably did. HR Fluffinstuff is as predictable as a dog returning to his vomit.
