THE CONVERSATIONS TODAY...WHEW!
There sure is plenty to talk about with a lot
of moaning and groaning but a lot of
laughter, too!
Jon Stewart has us absolutely fascinated
about the trip to Washington, DC on
October 30Th for the march to "Return
Sanity" to the American people. After
checking various news outlets online
this morning, we find he already has
more people lined up to attend than Glenn
Beck did (I'm not a fan of Beck's;
no offense to anyone).
Watching Larry King last night we were
again laughing our selves silly over Bill
Maher's statements and opinions.
A website called Politico something
or the other was already calling
Maher's statement about wood gas
lines untrue but yet Maher quoted the
AP and they just can't prove it's true
or not so they're calling it a myth.
As a couple, we didn't like the bailout
by Washington, DC and would have
rather seen the money spent to put
people to work fixing our infrastructure
(sort of like the WPA program from
back in the '40's).
We haven't seen the bailout create any
jobs. We can understand some of the
reasoning behind the bailouts but also
strongly disagree with the actions
taken to save the Banks and Wall
Street and others.
Back to the news in New Albany, our
reality still sucks.
I wish the Tribune had done their home-
work and had spoken to the County
leaders about the annexation the
paper supports in order to inform the
public of the hidden costs associated
with this project, i.e., $2 million we
have to give to the County which we
don't have. We'd like to know
if Ruckman's sewer contract is or is not
affected by this little move and whether
we are taking over his "private sewer
lines". We are talking about even bigger
monies being lost if that is true.
We wish England could/would wait to
announce his Re-Election until after
the County elections (we don't know what
the hurry is). As badly as we don't want
to see England in office again we shudder
to think of the regular line of "Pubs" who
every four years throw their names in the
hat. We want someone NEW and NOT
BEHOLDING TO ANYONE
and SOMEONE WHO HASN'T
USED OUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS
(i.e., tax abatements) to get this position.
Though sometimes, you just have to
wonder who in the hey would want
the job besides the power hungry
or status grabbing (constantly the
same) name seekers.
We hear the "boys" are upset with England
because he is helping Bobo with getting
financing and not them. Cry us a river.
We hate to remind anyone of this BUT
the truth is our sewer system can't
handle this project, (hell, we can't even
update the industrial park for more biz
because of the sewer capacity limits) ,
and you can bet your sweet bippy we
will be the ones paying for this
monument that Bobo didn't come
back to Redevelopment in June to
talk about. But, as Carl M. says,
he's been meeting with Bobo and
for some strange reason we are
betting that's probably true. Rare
to have discussions with Carl in public.
Truth probably is they are literally
driving him crazy over it.
The Fire Department has filed a grievance
over the new insurance proposed. England
made a contract with the group promising
the same if not better insurance.
Culpecker's (oh, sorry, we mean
Culpepper's) plan doesn't fit with
the union's contract guidelines.
We hate that England always wants
to lay off the firefighters but not
the police and then we wonder why?
We hear Benedetti received a telephone
call "it's not ten firefighters you would have
to lay off, it's twelve". What a shame.
There is only one way the Board of Works
can deal with this issue and that would be
if the Council doesn't take action. Now,
if the Council votes NO, isn't that an action?
Hey, enough of this. We are going to check our
calendar and see if October 30Th is a good day to go
to Washington.

And there you have it. England running again as though no one expected it. My question is why didn't he wait until after the elections in November? Why would the Party Chair, Wilcox, not stand aside and be impartial because that IS HIS JOB to remain impartial so others might run?
Why don't we have a swimming pool in New Albany? Because of the mismanagement of the Parks Department and Camille Wright and other pools not being taken care of. Why would we think the City could take care of a Water Park? Why drain Community Park and put it there?
When he says he can't do any of his plans without the County's help he's talking about the LOIT tax.
I liked the comment about the restaurants and bars and how when ever one shut down another one took over and that brings people over from Louisville to SHOP.
Shop what? Beer? We have some good new restaurants but we've always had a few good ones.
What? The Y didn't bring in enough business for "shopping"? Where are the shops? Besides antique shops and the music store and Terry Middletons and Schmidt and Classic Furniture? Where oh where.
The Council wants "Accountability". He got that one right, CITIZENS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY? Now, who will this group get to run against him?
All of the police and fire were there, along with Mickey Thompson and the Street Department workers. Same old same old song and dance. Talk about intimidation, whoa. But hey, I ain't no one except part of the working class so I guess I know a whole lot of nothing.
I like your idea of a work program like the WPA (but it was during the 1930's).
My husband and I agree that the money would have been better spent if it had been given to the people directly. We would have put it to good use, by first paying off our bills and then making purchases, and finally banking the rest.
A lot of people would be put to work, first someone would have to handle all of those payments, and there would have to be sales people and finally bank employees.
Sounds good to me. Wish the President would listen to the little people.
Did England run a poll before he annouced his reelection?
We didn't get a call and don't know anyone who did get a call, do you?
There is more than one way to conduct a poll.
Would you like to share 12:57?
Maybe not enough people have visited his tailor yet?
Who is dumb enough to vote this jackass back in?
Every body I know were just told persnally he was going to run.
Why hasn't the Tribune or Courier reported on the grievance filed by the Fire Dept?
If Messer loses his job what does that do to his benefits? Retirement, Pension, etc.
I heard he get's 20-40 days suspension and does not lose his job!
And, they want the council to make a statement.
HOW COULD ENGLAND DECLARE THAT HE IS RUNNING AGAIN WHEN THE CITY IS IN THE WORST MESS THAT WE HAVE EVER SEEN? THEY OVERSPENT AND ARE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DEBT.
HE ALSO SAID THAT HE WANTS A WATER PARK AND SPORTS COMPLEX.
IF YOU ARE BROKE AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DEBT, DO YOU GO OUT AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS THAT YOU JUST BOUGHT YOURSELF A NEW CADILLAC CAR ?
Anon: You are so right.
Did the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, City Attorney and the City Council ever study math or arithmetic when they were in grade school?
Steve Price graduated from NAHS mid term.
Price is the best one on the council.
WHERE IS THE CITY GOING TO GET THE $2 MILLION TO PAY THE COUNTY FOR FIRE DISTRICT?
they don't owe it vicki
The County Council has a debt on the fire department for $2 million dollars. Steve Price asked Shane Gibson about it at Council and he admitted WE ARE LIABLE FOR THE DEBT. When you buy something, you get the assets and the debts or is this something people can't understand? CALL THE COUNTY COUNCIL AND FIND OUT, GEE. And it's not Vicki but THANKS.
Sorry I get confused, Vicki's CAPSLOCK button has been stuck ever since RAB hacked her computer and stole the American Flag from her Blog.
August 4th Tribune:
"Fox placed the fire district’s debt at about $2 million, but he added he didn’t know the exact portion of the township’s tax base that will be incorporated by New Albany."
The city is only responsible for a percentage of the total debt estimated at less than 5% and is owed over the next 20 years.
They "never know the exact" debt, EVER. County Council knows and please ask one of them. We are liable for this debt and $2 million owed versus $700,000 estimated revenue a year kind of muddies the water doesn't it?
And, what if Carl TIF's the darn thing? Then there will be no money coming into the General Fund.
We need to do away with the TIF's so we can support the City's needs, the police, the fire, etc. Now there is a novel idea.
The total debt for the entire fire district is $2 million. The city owes a fraction of that amount equal to the ratio of property they are annexing.
Carl estimates the total will be around $16,000 a year for the term of the bonds.
You can continue to say $2 million but it still doesn't make it true.
Don't you people realize the majority of statements that comes out of England's or Carl's mouth are nothing but lies anyway.
They sure know how to spin their lies and crap.
Btw Carl, what are they charging your former boss in Louisville with in federal court?
Anyone attending council tonight?
1S1 got $30,000 instead of $70,000. What happen to all that bull crap Coffey said in the Tribune?
Vote him out, he's a turncoat and a liar, that's what he is.
