The column in the newspaper written by Matt Nash bashing Steve Price still has me fuming. Steve Price is not my council representative but what the hey? England has the majority of Council reps voting for his agenda so what does it matter if Price doesn't agree with England about the taxpayer's money?
I found this article to be unconscionable, rude, uninformed, detrimental, and uncalled for. Does Nash live in Price's district? Didn't Nash lose his own election? We all know about him being mentally unstable and the dirt with his personal life. Do you think he would appreciate someone writing about that?
I called on Steve Price after reading this article; mainly wanting to know his reaction. Price is educated and a real person (as I call him), and I admire him sticking to his principles no matter what. This City is in the red to the tune of $12 million dollars. Nash makes no reference to this issue. I maintain this is the real issue and the Administration is simply trying to muddy the waters so we won't talk about it. Well, I say Steve Price and all of us need to be talking about it. Not how much more of our money can the City spend but how we can make up our budget shortfalls and require the City to be more accountable for their actions. Matter of fact, I can not understand why there has not been an emergency meeting of the Council to address the shortfalls. Maybe Mr. Price's district can talk him into forcing the Council into a meeting for this purpose. I would like to see the looks on the other Council people's faces when they finally admit the shortages on the books.
I urge Mr. Price to stand firm and to stand tall. What do you think about this hogwash?

I still cannot believe the Tribune would publish those words of Mr. Nash.
But then again, it seems the Tribune has not published all the stories about the city’s financial mess. It seems the Tribune has DROPPED THE BALL and are letting people write things that might be found in the National Enquirer. Is that what it takes to sell papers and attract interest? How many hard copies do they print daily? Should they go to printing a weekly paper only? Their reporters should be assigned some REAL in depth stories to write about, instead of having some citizens take up space writing those horrible columns.
I also urge Mr. Price to stand tall. I also urge the other City Council members to open their eyes (read the financial info you have and ask questions) and join him.

I can't figure out the answer to that question either! To me this is where the politcos are committing malfeasance of office. It's their JOB to take care of OUR money.
To councilman Price; Don't buy England's lies. Vote NO. As a council member each should be familiar with issues important to all of us.
Council members elected must be concerned with the big picture, sincere their responsibility is to all taxpayers, not just for England's political favor.

Common sense and good judgement by Price will hopefully prevent other council members and us from falling for this slick money grubbing scheme perpetrate by England and Malysz.
I would love to know that New Albany will remain a desirable community long after I pass. However with the short-sightedness and "me" attitude of its businesses downtown. I feel that those people don't care about planning for future generations. (meaning bars and resturants). Given this attitude, New Albany does not have a bright future.
And why would anyone trust a authorless article such as this?

The only good thing I read in the Tribune today was Price's letter. Everything else made me cringe.
My worse nightmare is city and county merging and England thinking he will get control over ALL OF IT. That and I wouldn't wish our debt on my worse enemy.
I hear the County will not go along with the City on the Coyle building. Wish I could be sure. As England ALWAYS does, this is a last minute decision that HAS TO BE MADE NOW or else. Simply the way he does business. Ugghh.

I agree with everything stated. This Coyle deal makes no sense, period. The lack of honesty surrounding this deal is a great concern. England and Coyle have everything to gain, and the city would be foolish to spend this kind of money during a recession.
Remember you are the same people who represent and vote against anything new in New Albany that will bring IN tax revenue.

Someone asked why we can't get yard trash picked up. The city said they are looking at contracts.

I see a lot of critism levied against this purchase that is based on money. Who's getting a slice of the pie, who isn't, innunendos about back room deals, etc. Coyle's is a fantastic piece of land and at a good deal. It's a win...win for our city.
Maybe we can all get some answers if we buy a $30.00 ticket to tour the Mayor's Open House Event. Ha!

The $30.00 ticket thing was in the Tribune. Doug wants to sell his house; DNA is hosting the open house and selling the tickets; and his wife just happens to be President of DNA. The City Boards should not be doing any private bull crap like that; I don't care who you are.
Isn't this another example of malfeasance of office? Using government services for private gain? So what if he doesn't get the $30.00 per ticket; it's the free publicity and getting the word out the place is for sale. Maybe even prospective buyers.

It is time to clean house. Our city government has made a joke of our city. The mayor never misses a photo op or face time on tv but continues to embarrass us with the threats and lies. It is our tax dollars they are wasting. This city needs some new blood badly the folks we have now are crooks, thieves and liars.
I'm with you on that one. Throw them all out, but keep Price on our council.
Firstly New Albany needs a council that understands the role and responsibilities of municipal government. There are too many council members that use their position for advancing their pet agendas instead of prioritizing and addressing the genuine issues associated with running this city.
Secondly department heads need to be held more accountable. These are the people that request additional funding to council and the mayor, deputy mayor, redevelopement. They are the ones that are ultimately the people responsible for spending the city busget. Poor decisions making cost taxpayers signofocantly every year.
While a new mayor is certainly in order unless there is a serious changeover in council and city management we're doomed to more of the same woeful goverance that we've suffered through for the past four mayors.

Your right. This council needs to go. Thank god for our watchdog group to ensure everyone is on the up and up. What does that say about our council? It says you have no control or don't want the responsibility to deal with anyone that is crooked. Fire them! We need to wipe out this council and start fresh. The fees are beyond pathetic. We have families losing their jobs barely hanging on to their homes goinng to the food bank to provide for their families and our mator and council wants to increase sewer, stormwater and sanitation now. Build a $12 million parking garage and a $3.5 water park. The progressives are bitching about five trees cut down at St. Mary's Church. This is absolutely disgusting. Have they stopped needless spending during this recession? And yet we don't even have a 2010 approved budget. I would love to see an itemized list of all the spending the England administration and the council has done or approved over the last rwo years in office. Sreve Price I'm in your corner. Council President Gonder removed the Lords Prayer from the regular meetings. I believe in a higher authority. I feel this a move in the wrong direction.

No one is denying you the ability to worship your god. You just can't do it during a public meeting, as that violates the prohibition against government supporting or endorsing a particular faith.
What was it about my statement that you did not understand about the Lords Prayer? Go back and read it slowly and maybe it will sink in. More of that progressive schooling no doubt? Think like the others. in that case why don't you consider leaving us and continue your search to find the Utopian life you desire. Having the prayer is extremely appropriate. My kitchen table issue is the $2 million for police and fire. I am all for paying these folks a decent wage with a premium for the dangerous work that they do, but I think that they already get that and some, and directing the city to fork over such a substantial amount of money is a little unreasonable in the current economic environment. I'm with Price, there are also lots of other things the city could put back on the table.
Maybe it's time to go to a Volunteer Police and Fire Department.
The moral in this city between the workers and the tax payers is so sad.

He allows people to double dip (like Price said) the council votes yes (except Price) on anything and everything England wants. If the mayor and other council members thinks he/them should get a pat on the back for this, forget about it. Now perhaps his high paid staff that keeps growing should offer a pay cut.

To be honest, I find Matt Nash's cheap attack on Councilman Price very shoddy.
Baylor and Nash are all talk. They all complain about bike paths, Councilman Price, Coffey and anyone else they don't agree with. How hard is it to write a 900 column.
Matt Nash came across as argumentative and attacking, we have all seen that in his column and it does not sit well with others. Mr. Price has shown a true concern for both the third district and the city. And he is very understanding of third district and city needs as well. Mr. Price has earned another term on city council in my book and he has my vote.
Easy to throw rocks at someone (Price) that's been doing the job. Both of these guys (Nash and Baylor) live in glass houses.
Steve has excellent leadership skills, listening thoughtfully to his constituents and responds to their request and needs and has the knowledge and experience to navigate through the political maze of City Hall, experience which is sorely needed in these tight fiscal times.
He needs to continue voting 'no'.
