"A Letter From A Reader"

Hello Kitchen Table!

I would like to discuss how we get an atmosphere in this city where we all work together and stop talking about being Democrats and Republicans.

As a Republican, I can't understand why every single issue becomes a big fight to wrest any credit or attention away from the people who do the real work. It's always about grandstanding and making sure the right person swipes the credit.

I know Doug England is out of office, but for some reason, his name is mentioned in the Tribune just about every day. Why? I want to know, is England planting this? Or is the Tribune just struggling to fill space? And if the latter is the case, why on earth did they do away with Ed Clere's column?

Right now, we could stand to have some first hand information on the right - to - work bill they're all talking about and that the unions seem so up in arms about. But I don't have enough information to go on.

Back to the city of New Albany, I wonder why more people don't help Jeff Gahan, since he's making so many mistakes. Why are we just sitting here letting him make the mistakes? He must be listening to someone, right? I also wonder if we're going to continue to see city streets and sidewalks torn up. Why the selective sidewalk projects? In some of the areas, I didn't see any great need for a new sidewalk. In other areas, someone had the great idea to put all those bump - outs. What for? I find it all very confusing.

Thank you Reader, for writing.

Thoughtful letter.

I don't understand why all the fighting goes on either. It's ugly.

I also liked Rep. Clere's column. It's bias that keeps him off there.

I'm with you about the bumpouts too, Republican. Tore up my car one day because I didn't know they were there.

Anonymous said...

I'm Democrat. I'm not part of your problem with the fighting. I am disgusted with all the messes all over town. I don't know about Gahan. Seems like he sold us out but I don't know.

Tore up my car one day because I didn't know they were there.

That's what happens when you drive in the parking lane.

Anonymous said...

Dear reader, if you wish to know more about Ed Clere, he provides online resources to educate you. A newspaper column isn't the only way. :)

Anonymous said...

Dagnabitt, Mayonaise is staying on in New Albany. The only hope I see is him being put over Linden meadows and it blowing up in his face again and then Gahan fires him. Sucks raw eggs.

Anonymous said...

You already knew Malysz was staying on.

I've bumped the stupid bumps too, right behind a school bus that did it.

You and I can get online, but not everyone can or does, moron.

I'm independent.

That's all.

Anonymous said...

i don't care about @#$^ bumpouts. What's this crap about Malash? Why's he got a job with the city?

%^@#$%en #$%^&s.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for calling me a moron...but, I was addressing the individual who wrote the letter- who can clearly get online as evidenced by their email to the KTB.

????? Lee Cotner

Carl Malysz does more for this city, consistently, than anyone else. He's worth way more than he is paid. If you'd stop being so jealous and petty, you would realize that.

Anonymous said...

I agree with 7:11. Carl goes above and beyond for this city. Also no one would hit the bumpouts if they learned to drive in the actual "lane" and not the "parking lane" which houses the bumpouts. I am shocked that so many are afraid of change!

Anonymous said...

I said that you and I can get online, moron. Obviously that guy or gal who wrote can get online. But everyone can't. My mom depends completely on the Tribune coming to her door. And I actually agree with the writer, Ed Clere is an excellent writer and he cuts right to the chase, unlike so many others who do nothing but posture.

Speaking of posturing, how about that Malysz getting a job with the city? You honestly think he's worth MORE than he is paid? Oh, boy. I'm worth more than I'm paid. Probably even Roger is worth more than he's paid. I'd say the mayor's position should be paid more. But Malysz?

No, don't think so. I have not a jealous bone in my body about Malysz. He's a leach and a flunky. Nothing more.

Anonymous said...

Nah, you're just a name calling bitter bully. Keep telling yourself that.

I like Clere just fine. But, when individuals are involved in campaigning they shouldn't have a column in the paper. It's really not that difficult.

Anonymous said...

As far as I can tell, Ed Clere isn't campaigning yet.

Anonymous said...

The paper is awfully important, 2:27, otherwise Rog wouldn't have worked so hard to get Van Hoy to get his column out of the Tribune. Must be an important place to write.

Dear, Jeff,

Our Lady of Perpetual Help has confession at 4:00 on Saturday. We recommend that you attend.

Your friends,
Taxpayers

Anonymous said...

Well, it sure didn't take many taxpayers to contact Alabama to get Roger's column discontinued. From what I understand it didn't take many complaints to get Baylor's articles discontinued. And I'm proud to say I'm one of them!

Anonymous said...

Well, at least we didn't have to see Roger's package today with all the rain. What'd that goat do to your goatee, Rog?

Anonymous said...

Hiring Malysz is just another example of Gahan's broken promises, folks. Look for more to come.

Anonymous said...

On Ed, for a guy that writes so well, when you go to a meeting and question him he is not very good. He rarely has any facts to back up anything he says.

Anonymous said...

Malysz can talk for two hours and not say a word - just talks in circles. I want mixed housing on his street - Beechwood so they can put dumpsters in there and wake him up in the middle of the night. Residents worked hard to stop garbage pickup by the big conglomerates from Louisville during the night. Passed Council, but not enforced. Residents of the Robert E. Lee, etc., are always woken up. Quality of life versus money.

Anonymous said...

Gahan came to my door and talked about change I see no change I agree confession is where Gahan needs to attend.
When you talk face to face you keep your word!!!

Anonymous said...

On Ed, he answers everything I've ever heard pretty darned well and always has facts to back up everything he says. I've never, not once, heard him hem and haw around on the issues. He owns up to them. He may not agree with your "facts," and that doesn't mean he's without facts. Sounds like you're pretty sour.

On Malysz, you'll never, ever get Malysz to be willing to have mixed housing on his street. You are completely kidding. His precious neighborhood? Mixed housing? No chance. Is he worth what they're paying him? Depends on who you're asking. For Doug England, he was a great front man. For New Albany, he was a waste of money.

Good question about how to make Democrats and Republicans be friendly instead of the constant bickering, finger pointing and name calling. That dork Matthews is quick to point out what sinful, illogical, big-spending sloths we are. This gets very old. He has his own agenda and for some stupid reason, speaking of columns, it includes him picking up a laptop and writing to the News and Tribune! A complete ass.

On the other side, the hallowed "inner circle" works against the rest of us, sneaks and works against each other, and has no intention of giving any Republican any rest. They hate Keith Henderson, tolerate Mark Seabrook, laugh at Matthews' ridiculous candidates, and wish Ed Clere would hand us our rightful seat back (although no one can agree on who should have it). Then there are the progressives, the little people and whatever other sub-group we've got out there. It's the perfect storm.

So to our naive Republican reader/writer, I'd say you're out of luck on the Dem/Rep buddy idea.

Just heard Duggins son hired on fire department will his daddy finally retire!!
Gahan okayed 2 firefighters to be hired

Anonymous said...

I am disgusted, disgusted, DISGUSTED with DOUGLAS B. GAHAN!

YOU HAVE TOTALLY SOLD US OUT!

YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT PLAY THE SHELL GAME WITH PEOPLE FROM THE PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION.

YOU ARE DOING EXACTLY WHAT YOUR PREDECESSOR DID BY HIRING MORE (yes, M-O-R-E) ATTORNEYS!

YOU ARE GIVING JOBS TO SCHMUCKS WHO ABSOLUTELY HAVE NOT SHOWN THEIR VALUE OTHER THAN THAT THEY TOE THE PARTY LINE.

I AM SWITCHING MY ALLEGIANCE TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. PERIOD. I AM COMPLETELY THROUGH WITH YOU NASTY CREATURES DOING EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO RUIN A PERFECTLY GOOD CITY. I DON'T CARE WHO THEY RUN, DOUGLAS B. GAHAN, I AM NOT (N-O-T) VOTING FOR YOU. EVER.

Anonymous said...

AND, YES, I'M M-A-D!

Tell us what you really think, 6:09.

DOUG ENGLAND HIRED THE THREE--NOT TWO FIRE POSITIONS BEFORE HE LEFT OFFICE--FACT

Anonymous said...

DOUGLAS B. ENGLAND
DOUGLAS B. GAHAN

They're one and the same.

Anonymous said...

Whatever you think of Ed, you'll have to agree with me that he has a nice deep voice. It's dreamy. He could have been in radio!

Anonymous said...

Fact Gahan endorsed the hiring!!!! Fact

Anonymous said...

Why were more firemen hired? I thought the city already had too many. I guess the only way to get a government job in the city is to be related to someone else that already works there. Duggins' (NA fireman) son just got hired as a fireman and I bet he is related to David Duggins the new Director of Economic Development.

I live on Spring Street and I've yet to see or hear a snow shovel. I wonder if our new mayor has forgotten that we need the streets plowed and sanded.

Anonymous said...

Actually, I'm glad the snow shovels weren't out hours before they were needed. I see out on my street (Market) that the street is clear enough and it looks like they salted all they needed. Once.

Anonymous said...

5:05, sounds like 8:04 is just bitter and wanted to whine.

Anonymous said...

Well, I see that even Rog agrees that Jessica Knable would have been a better choice for second district. He's got "See Saw" all over his blog today. (No, I didn't bother reading, Rog, just saw the pictures and his name).

Oh yes, I forgot, Jessica's his newest fixation. Better keep running, girl!

Anonymous said...

I predict that by about noon tomorrow everyone who reads this blog will have their heads spinning out of control.

Anonymous said...

whatever, roger, whatever.

Anonymous said...

So... England is named Floyd County's Democrat Party TREASURER? Still wanna be a Democrat???????

Anonymous said...

Yep, Roger has his head spinning out of control.

Breathtaking symbolism, courtesy of the Floyd County Democratic Party.

The Floyd County Democratic Party held a Precinct Committee caucus this morning at the Knights of Columbus, and Matt Nash reports that former mayor Doug England has been chosen to replace Sam Locke as treasurer.

That's an incredible message the Democrats are sending: The man who proposed handing the mayor's office to Irv "Lifelong GOP" Stumler, and whose reign of nepotism during the past two years poisoned the revitalization well, now is rewarded with a position as party apparatchik.

File it under "local Democratic Party death rattles," and ponder the what-ifs should the Republicans ever choose a competent party chairman.

Anonymous said...

UNBELIEVABLE (except it's not since we're talking about New Albany)

Anonymous said...

I have about had it roger!!!! Yes Doug England won the caucus !!!! Doug can raise more money than you will ever dream of raising for the democrats. Look at your blog the only thing you focus on is the democrats in office and you trash and bash them. You are not democrat and never will be if you think you are part of our party get the hell out I know our chairman does not have the balls to tell you that but it is coming. I am so tired of people making excuses for you that when I pray to god I wish for patience that I don't do something I would regret no more excuses for your cronies either. People honestly try to make excuses for you my parents never taught me that. Bust of course my mamma never spoon fed me either. Worry about your close in patio and leave the politics to us. Tell your land lord Stevie Doug expects a donation for your little patio out
front !!!!
To Matt Nash your dad needs to quit living off government!!!!

Pretty sure Roger's not a Dem.

Pretty sure that you may have made a threat above. You may want to rethink that. This stuff's traceable.

Pretty sure no one's head is spinning out of control. But, nice try being a drama queen.

Anonymous said...

4:30 pm, your head is doing some spinning. But what the hey, Irv's not a democrat, either.

Anonymous said...

Pretty sure 'Rog' has not made all the above statements you seem to think he has- I've made a few. You think Baylor is the only one critical of the Floyd County dem. Party? Think again.

Anonymous said...

Then do not declare to run as a democrat this is the point!!! At least the party was smart enough not to put you people in. Just like it was said along time ago your bully tactics and threats does not scare me.
Gahan puts Roger Baylor on UEZ after he quit underneath England. And getting rid of Larry the banker well it goes to say here goes Jeff again. How long will it be before Rog quits again not getting his way.

Anonymous said...

Here is another scenario for you: Republicans criticize the Dem. Party in hopes some will stop the baffling and ignorant practice of voting straight dem. How about vote for the candidate and NOT the party?

Anonymous said...

Everyone knows you still have to declare a party but in today's time we do vote for the person. Going back to the point Roger is not a Democrat!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Uh, you do not have to vote STRAIGHT TICKET. Duh. Move on from Roger- you're boring. The problem is not Roger (he is one man and not an elected official). The problem is NA's leadership, or lack thereof. And which Party has been in the leadership position for years? Need a hint?

Anonymous said...

Gahan had better get ready because the sh@t is about to hit the fan. Just a matter of time.

---

So you think Carl M oocher M. is worth every penny? Can some one explain how he can be paid out of tax abatements?

---

Gahan has more enemies than Danny Coffey and he only done it in less than thirty days. That's amazing isn't it?

Great article over on FOS. I totally agree with the top 10 men list, too.

Anonymous said...

I think that Erik, that noted "college professor of political science," should have made the list of this year's outstanding men. For an imaginary character, he's great!

Anonymous said...

You can't say that about Professor Erik. I had dinner with him just the other night. Then Vicki brought in a beer for each of us.

11. Erik
12. Tooth Fairy
13. Easter Bunny
14. Bigfoot

Flooding on Spring St., Charlestown Road, Silver St., Grantline, Green Valley and several other locations. So, Mayor Douglas Gahan, get your team out there and fix the flooding.

Anonymous said...

Sorry but I agree with Prof. Erik, each name listed deserved to be on that top 10 list. I didn't see your name either, 7:53 and 8:57, you're to selfish to even make the list. The only things you two care about is what's in it for me or my business.

Great job Prof. Erik

Anonymous said...

Gahan hasn't fixed forty years of sewer neglect in 17 days that is hard to believe.

Larry Kochert spent more time on the sewer board than anyone alive and not one thing was fixed until he left

Anonymous said...

England being elected Treasurer of the FC Dem Party has made me ill. I will no longer help "my party" out nor attend any functions. If you are running for office, forget my name. No more gathering Voter Registrations, Absentee Ballots and asking friends to put your signs in my yard.

As the party seems to be saying the hell with us, i say to hell with you. never thought I'd say that, but...never say never.

Anonymous said...

I also agree with most of Prof. Erik's list, but just out of curiosity how did the new asst. fire chief get on the list? He hasn't even been in office for a month yet?

Anonymous said...

Could what the new asst. chief be getting credit for actually have come from the previous asst. chief?

Anonymous said...

How dare anyone question the existence of Professor Erik? Why, the good professor came and spoke to our book club just last week. He was telling us all how much he enjoyed reading War and Peace. LOL!

Remind me again why Freedom of Speech doesn't allow comments...I mean, their blog title is, after all, Freedom of Speech?

Anonymous said...

10:14 If I read it right it has to do with Public Service. How many years has Mr. Gadd been on the Fire Department? I'm guessing he's been there a long time.

Proud Democrat said...

I have to admit I agree with the FOS list. There's some good people in New Albany. It's sad that some of you attack there choices for outstanding public service. It should inspire us all to help others as well, like those ten men do and did.

Anonymous said...

11:32 what is the name of your blog? I'd like to check it out.

I didn't think so.

Anonymous said...

5:39, I don't have a blog...but, if I did, I wouldn't title it something like Freedom of Speech and then not allow any, you know, free speech. At the very least, I'd allow anonymous comments, though I don't like those either. Call it the 'we are going to say whatever we'd like about whomever we'd like but no one else can say a word about it or defend themselves or disagree' blog, but Freedom of Speech is a big lie when you don't allow comments.

No I didn't think so. At least Prof. Erik has a job what about you.
