THE ISSUE IS THE SEWER PLAN SELECTED IN 2001 FAILED. WE DID NOT MEET THE REQUIRED CRITERIA OF A 100 YEAR STORM.
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE TWO ENGINEERS WHO RESIGNED FROM THE SEWER BOARD FOR THEIR HARD WORK IN TRYING TO SELECT THE CORRECT PLAN, AND LISTENING TO THE PUBLIC.
ONE OF THREE PLANS WAS SELECTED BY THE SEWER BOARD AND PUBLIC.
THERE WAS A CLOSED DOOR MEETING LATER AND THE PLAN SELECTED WAS CHANGED, BY ONE VOTE. THE PERSON ON THE SEWER BOARD WHO CHANGED THEIR VOTE WAS CHAS HUNTER. THIS IS THE POINT IN TIME WHEN OUR TWO ENGINEERS RESIGNED. FORMER MAYOR HUNTER WAS ASKED IN THE HALLWAY WHY HE CHANGED HIS VOTE. HE REPORTED HE NEEDED THE JOB.
WE WILL NOW WAIT AND SEE THE INFORMATION THE CITY (EMC) REPORTS TO IDEM AND THE EPA ABOUT OUR LAST STORM.
THIS BLOG HAS NO IDEA AS TO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LAST ARTICLE WROTE, ALONG WITH THE DETAILS OR COMMENTS. BLOGGER CRASHED AND THE ARTICLE AND COMMENTS WERE LOST.
THANK YOU AGAIN BILL UTZ AND BOB LEDFORD!

“I would say this is the biggest show we’ve had in awhile,” said Shelle England,
Well, well, well, Witchipoo and I agree on something for perhaps the VERY FIRST TIME! Approving a $400,000 Farmers Market would be a very bad thing for City Council to do.
Nuff said.
Who's Witchipoo?
Sounds like there's some more "closed door" stuff going on. Doug knows he has to hurry.
Hurry, hurry, Doug...Hurry up and spend our tax dollars. You've been frittering away our present and future monies. Keep it up, but hurry. You've only got 7 and a half more months to do it!
LOL. Witchipoo is that goon Gillenwater--helps Fluffinstuff on his blog.
Has he written something? Better check it out, I guess. BRB
Witchipoo and I agree that $374,000 is WAY too much to spend, and we agree that there's clearly some extra money being requested. But he doesn't seem to understand why or where it's going.
Let's see, it's going to Doug England, Shane Gibson, Doug England, Carl Malysz, Doug England, Shane Gibson, Doug England, Carl Malysz, Doug England...
Need I say more?
I have to agree with the article on Baylor's sight. Then again, what else is new with the current administration?
Yes. I agree too. There's nothing new about this. Nothing at all.
I knew I should have copyrighted the "adding an extra touch" to a post by using a catchy name and linking to a related picture for every post! Oh well, ya snooze, ya lose.
Love,
Joe Citizen
Oh, and buy the way, why spend nearly half a million dollars to rebuild the farmers market to make a permanent shelter? Lots of places use open space for vendors of fresh and/or organic produce on tables they bring, or pop up shelters, etc. Open air shelters are more inviting, cost next to nothing, and has more of a old world bazaar type of atmosphere. All you need is some open space and some people to sell fruits and veggies.
Joe Citizen
next he'll be wanting $500,000 to build a drinking joint to attach to the farmers market
Yes, Joe Citizen, we appear to be in agreement. All you need is some open space and some people to sell fruits and veggies.
I know, right? It's such a radical idea! The fruits and veggies are planted, grown and harvested in open, and transported to a large common area where shoppers are free to wander between stands and look for the freshest, best looking produce, while, dare I say it? Why yes I dare, they are out in the open, meeting and talking to other people. Rigid structures tend to keep people in queue's crowded in lines. Its such a radical concept that it has only been used for thousands of years.
I remember when they sold out of the back of their trucks over by the highrise. I've never felt it was right to charge the farmers in order to sell their vegetables.
If there is a nickel to be squeezed out of anyone in this town this admin will do it.
What a crock.
Okay. Blogger has now restored the original article, but comments are still missing. Hm. Wonder what the problem is?
Yes, I like going down to the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and chatting with people. Amazing how nice that is. People are much more interesting than Facebook and Twitter and all the blogs. Fancy that!
Blogger is stealing comments. England is stealing money. New Albany stays the same, day after day.
Very strange. Got on here to check our conversation from earlier. It's not there. KT, you had given an excellent explanation of the whole sewer deal back 10 years ago. It's a shame all that disappeared.
Also, I like the Farmers Market the way it is, too. Maybe we need another structure like the one we have to protect against weather, but it shouldn't cost any $400,000.
Question: Who is Midtown Neighborhood? Why do I pay property taxes and my taxes are NOT use to clean up New Albany?
First the Farmer's Market wanted $50,000. Who approved MTR? What fund was it paid out of?
How many pot holes can we fill with $400,000?
WHY DON'T WE JUST TIF THE ENTIRE CITY AN BE DONE WITH IT.
This entire city has went to the sewers.
Thanks to Doug England.
Indeed, Blogger has been difficult the past few days.
It's nice to have the different vendors/cookers/artists around while they are selling the veggies. But, I agree we shouldn't charge the farmers.
And we sure don't need to spend the kind of money they want upgrading it.
It's sort of like the Binford Park being used for Little League. Someone just keeps making money over and over "redoing" plans and especially studies.
I don't know what kinds of farmers markets some of you go to, but check with any of them and see if they organize it for free. You won't find any.
Not everything is a conspiracy although I understand that some of you need to get your panties in a wad to consider it a good day.
French restaurant planned in New Albany
A French-menu restaurant called Louis Le Frencais will open, probably this summer at 133 E. Market St. in New Albany.
The operator will be Louis Retailleau, who has previously been involved with restaurants in Montreal, New York and Chicago. He moved to the Louisville area two years ago and decided to open the restaurant in New Albany after being unable to find what he called a suitable location in Louisville. The New Albany restaurant will have about 2,000 square feet of space and be operated in leased premises. he said.
French food is too fancy for me. Why can't we get something less expensive downtown?
That's why most businesses don't last downtown 7:12. Why shop or eat downtown when you can get more and better else where in New Albany. And not have to spend an arm or a leg for a night out or to feed a family of four.
Anyone who spends $5.00 for a plate of french fries has more money than sense.
The Market downtown is NOT there like they think, that's why businesses don't last no matter how much the city sinks our tax dollars in downtown.
TIF's and Tax Abatements are bankrupting our city.
Just ask anyone at the State Board of Accounts (Charlie Pride)or the Department of Local Government.
I heard the NAPD wants 7 new cars and they want $175,000 approved by the council this thursday to pay for them!
That's BS.
As far as NAPD goes, those officers can ride tricycles for all I care.
I'M WITH YOU BUDDY ON THAT ONE. IF THEY WANT NEW CARS THEY CAN TAKE A $30,000 CUT IN PAY.
If any police vehicles are purchased they should only go to officers who actually reside in New Albany.
What happened with the 500 grand allocated to the police for police cars and never reached their pockets? This according to the Council.
They just don't get it. We're broke.
It's a lot of miles back and forth between New Albany and Charlestown, or New Albany and Corydon, or New Albany and Mauckport.
Huh. Here I thought most restaurants fail because of improper planning, foresight, business acumen, rifts between principal owners, divorces, or fund mismanagement. And all along, it was because of the whiny people at KT Blog that would rather eat McDonalds five days a week rather than save up for one GOOD meal a month. I'll be darned.
Most family's cannot afford to go out when they have children. Besides, what's wrong with McDonalds?
6:36 p.m., I agree that most restaurants DO fail for those reasons. I don't look for this French restaurant to fail at all. It'll be quite a novelty to have something different. Since I've never been able to afford to go to a French restaurant, I've never eaten French food. Hope it's good, 'cause I WILL try it out!
BTW, I don't know what you're talking about people on here who'd rather go to McD's 5 days a week. I HATE McDonald's.
Just wanted to register a bit of truth. People need to stop lumping ALL of the people who get on here in the same category.
I LIKE McDonald's! Nothing like a juicy Big Mac.
there are never more than 8 cars on duty at any time----usually only seven---and hoow many do we have???
I'm glad the police are trolling the streets. They're always nearby. I feel safer because of their presence.
How can a topic of sewers end up, as normal, anonymously bashing the police? Just when my opinion of the participants here was beginning to change. This is very sad.
Are you not anonymous Mr. Joe Citizen? Or do we call you: Mr. Infant Disappointment? This is not your real name. So who are you to attack any of us.
Who put you in charge of my opinion or any other opinion posted on this blog?
Busted? Hardly. Disappointed, yes. And that is MY opinion that I have my right to as well. Conversations on here had actually become positive, and interaction to share ideas, thoughts and positive input on subject matters that would impact our daily lives. But I see now that was just a freak phenomenon. Why disparage the police so badly because they asked for new cars? How about input and suggestions of more fuel efficient cars for them to use, instead of just blindly attacking them? Also, how is possible that my name is Joe?
Joe, I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of conversation on here as more positive of late. However, it is difficult not to want to rail against visceral attacks we read on Twitter, the News and Tribune website, and on other blogs, not to mention Facebook.
Here's an example:
Freedom of Speech posted on their blog a missive regarding illegal immigration and President Barack Obama's actions and words in response. It was an honest appraisal of the situation as the writer sees it, and shows concern for the continued blood-letting of our taxpayer dollars.
Agree or disagree, it wasn't a vicious attack, and it certainly wasn't racist.
Enter Fluffinstuff blogger, Roger A. Baylor. Roger's pitchfork was out and pointed as he named Vicki Denhart and accused her of "overt racism" and claims that she is advocating intolerance in her apparent quest to quell a spirit of diversity.
First of all, he has no idea who writes Freedom of Speech. He claims constantly that it's Ms. Denhart. I happen to know that it's a group of writers. It's not Ms. Denhart posing as different writers, and it's not one or two different writers. It's all kinds of different people, who support vigilance over our tax dollars and who want to ask hard questions.
Instead, Roger A. Baylor, turns to attacks, again and again. My question for you, Joe, is, why don't you head over there if you want to quell those who wave pitchforks and torches?
As for whether Ms. Denhart is against "diversity..." Hmmmm...Let's see about that.
As I see it, Ms. Denhart is one of the rare people who cares about REAL diversity, not just the color-of-the-skin or the sexuality variety. The kind of diversity Ms. Denhart encourages is the real deal. She listens to poor and rich, black and white, Democrat and Republican. She cares about New Albany. Cares about it for you and for me. She even cares about Roger A. Baylor, which is not something I suppose he would say in return. He seems to want to slam her at every turn.
And why? Because she smokes? Because she comes from the West End? Because she's not afraid to stand up to him (and others) who are leading the city in the wrong direction?
I wish more people were like Vicki Denhart, unafraid to step forward and fight for a better world for children who grow up in America just like she did, and for adults who face the same struggles to manage her home and job and family just like she does. Vicki Denhart is to be admired, not reviled.
In any case, we shouldn't be treating ANYONE with scurrilous tongue (or keyboard).
You're right, Joe. We all need to stay on a track of conversation that listens with an open mind, criticizes CONSTRUCTIVELY, and checks blind prejudice and anger at the door. And that includes prejudice against those with whom we disagree.
Otherwise, how will we EVER make things better for all the people?
Bravo & Amen 8:08AM, you took the words right out of my mouth.
My question is how is it bashing the police if we wish any new police cars to stay in town and be driven home to Corydon, Mauckport and Charlestown? Isn't that conservation of the wear and tear on the cars and fuel costs, etc.?
Where did the last $500,000 go Council appropriated to the Police? How is this issue disparaging to police officers? Don't they and we have a right to know, or does Mr. Bailey already know?
What the hey?
Encore, encore, encore.
Good point,I help pay for those police cars through my property taxes and I also want to know where the $500,000 went.
Correction - and NOT BE DRIVEN TO CHARLESTOWN, CORYDON AND MAUCKPORT.
Hallelujah! Now we're getting somewhere. I demand NAC to print a retraction on the Denhart Racist posting.
I think some people just want total control over everything. Maybe in their eyes only their blog should exist and their opinion is they are the only ones with anything worthwhile to speak or write about.
It seems no one is allowed to have a difference of opinion. Now, why would that be? Intolerance?
I agree, 8:47 a.m. Not only that, I believe that, as long as they are not personally bashing individuals, people need to be able to write, even anonymously, their ideas. It's the want of control that makes those among us behave otherwise.
I, too, would support a Baylor post on NAC that corrects his intolerant missive that attempts to demonize Ms. Denhart.
Yawn, although lumping sewage together with the perpetual racism at Freedom of Speech does achieve rare conceptual symmetry here in Anonymous Coward Land.
And here is a prime example as to why our fair city is getting the crap kicked out of it by other cities like Clarksville and Jeffersonville! I could not have made the point any better if I tried. The infighting in the factions has fractured this city to its foundations. And it happens in the papers, on the news. What developer in their right minds would come here? What meaningful productive companies would locate here when the talking heads of our community are so full of hatred and contempt for one another?
XOXO
Joe
Too funny, Denhart a racist? Your so full of crap Fluffinstuff. Go visit Willie at Waterfront High-rise and dare call her a racist to him. He'd do your much needed Lobotomy for free.
ROFLMAO
Btw, did I mention 'Willie' is an African American who absolutely adores her.
First your liver goes than you start putting labels on people.
Only in New Albany could a sever wind storm blow into town and do $500,000 in improvements! Shit hole town.
NAC, help is available take the first step: 866-369-5122
Come join New Albany 1st. Buy local he says:

Yawn
People who drink microbrew don't like the taste of beer; they just like to pee a lot.
8:08AM - I agree. Please let me add - more than one person writes for Freedom of Speech. You can tell it - different styles of writing. I think some people (including New Albanian) want those who write on this blog to go off topic. Also, some people want to make other people mad, so we will 'blurt it all out' and reveal what we know (before it is time).
Remember: it's about TIMING, TIMING, TIMING.
Do as I say not as I do.
Iamhoosier, does your boss know your blogging on company time?
LMAO
Anyone seen the latest sewer report? Will ‘someone’ say there was ‘new’ damage done to the sewers because of the rain? Will another rate increase be needed to fix them?
8:08 Talk about calling it like it is. You called a spade a spade. Oh, shit, he'll be calling me a racist next.
I'll introduce you to Marquis a friend of mine he likes white boys too.
12:22 Let me look into my crystal ball. My crystal ball is black and hazy, but I see another rate increase coming sooner than later.
1. Whoever it is that posts at FoS- one person, ten people- they lose credibility when they do not spell check. Hell, even in the comments here you get a red squiggly line showing that something ain't right.
2. I went back and read the FoS article in question and yes, it does come across very, very racist, regardless of how many black friends the author may or may not have. African American or any other shade of black are not the only races out there, you see. The vitriol against immigrants of all types in this country is alarming, quite frankly.
Oh, and 3. Who in the world has a blog that doesn't allow comments? Afraid of something that's different from what you believe? Wow.
boring...
When you all going to start talking about how the area 51 cover-up is tied into all of this.
12:56 / 12:57 you sound a lot like Iamhoosier...hmmmm
Tales from the Baylor Household
At about 3AM, Baylor was drunk as a skunk. He came home just in time to hear the cuckoo clock cuckoo three times. Quickly coming up with a plan, He cuckooed nine more times, hoping his wife would think it was midnight. He was very proud of himself.
The next day, his wife asked what time he got home, and he replied, "Midnight, just like he said."
She said that was good, and for some reason she said we needed a new cuckoo clock. When he asked why, she answered, "Last night when it cuckooed midnight, it cuckooed three times, said 'Shit!,' cuckooed four more times, farted, cuckooed three times, cleared its throat, cuckooed two more times and then started giggling."
12:57 I KNOW SEVERAL BLOGS WHO DON'T ALLOW COMMENTS. THAT'S ERIK'S RIGHT. WHAT'S THE NAME OF YOUR BLOG?
That's a good one. I guess the cukoo got his tongue.
Well written and well said 'Wish that ALL would join in the friendly banter.'
I've heard Garry say several times we can't use the sewer money for anything else. But I've seen them move those funds around like peas under walnuts. She's either lying, or, what? Incompentent?
Thanks for banging this drum, by the way.
Have you ever wanted to take Rog's face in your hands, lovingly, and say, "Are you in there?" he's a moron for sure.
No, but if he ever comes knocking on my door campaigning, I'd shoot him and drag him in the house. Lovingly of course. I guess you can add my name as a racist too.
A thousand monkeys brewing for a thousand years could not make brews like this.
Roger
We're taxed out and we're surely maxed out when it comes to paying a sewer bill.
True enough. I'm tired of paying sewer bills and thinking of all that goes on. No, Joe, I'm not voicing hatred and contempt. Only voicing a concern.
P.S. I agree about the spell check on FOS. It's not "YELL, right," it's "YEAH, right."
Also, I agree that Vicki Denhart is nothing more threatening than a community activist who want's to make New Albany a better place and help the little guy. We could use more people like her!
Baylor thinks that he can dismiss this blog as "Anonymous Coward Land." He seems to think that just because he puts his name on what he writes that he's not a coward.
Sitting behind a keyboard and writing crap between yourself and friends who tend to agree with you is pretty cowardly, I'd say.
Curious, what's area 51 cover up?
It could be "YELL, right" if you're cheerleading. LMAO
6:57PM - CLUE: sewers
1:28, that's endlessly amusing to me. Thanks for the compliment.
Every time I see y'all bring up Baylor, I feel the need to remind you that over 1300 people voted for him. He clearly resonates with a good chunk of New Albany, or he'd have come nowhere close to that number.
I'd love to get past Baylor with you people and truly discuss issues- but, your obsession with him kind of ends any constructive conversation before it begins. Ah well.
By that logic, we're downright GUSHING over Doug England. He clearly resonates with even more New Albanians, with a vote count of 1,587.
Oh, I don't disagree- but, I AM saying you can't discount EITHER of them, regardless of your personal beefs. Clearly, they both have a significant number of supporters.
Gosh, I don't have my maps to figure out one person on here.
