NO MORE EMC?!?

BREAKING NEWS, HOT OFF THE PRESSES.  ENGLAND HAS FIRED, LET GO, TERMINATED, GOTTEN RID OF EMC (THE COMPANY WHO WAS MANAGING OUR SEWER SYSTEMS).

THE CITIZENS SPENT A TON OF MONEY MAKING SURE THE CITY OF NEW ALBANY COULD HANDLE A 100 YEAR STORM.  AFTER THE RAIN WE HAD, CITIZENS WONDERED IF THE SEWAGE PLANT WAS DOING WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSE TO DO AND I UNDERSTAND IT DIDN'T.  RAW SEWAGE WAS RUNNING ACROSS ROADS IN NEW ALBANY, I.E., BY MAINLAND BANK ON CHARLESTOWN ROAD (AND VARIOUS OTHER PLACES).  DID WE FAIL THE 100 YEAR STORM TEST?

WE ALSO ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE TWO EMERGENCY BACK UP GENERATORS IN CASE OF POWER FAILURES.  WE HAVE BEEN  WONDERING IF THOSE FAILED WITH THE PUBLISHED REPORTS OF GENERATORS FAILING IN THE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENTS.

WASN'T THERE RECENTLY PUBLISHED REPORTS OF A NEW CONTRACT NEGOTIATED WITH EMC SAVINGS CITIZENS 1.7 MILLION?

WE ARE NOT HESITANT TO SAY WE DO NOT FEEL ENGLAND IS CAPABLE OF RUNNING OUR SEWERS (PAST EXPERIENCE AND HISTORY).  WE ALSO DO NOT FEEL WILKERSON NOR BRINKWORTH, NOT WILKERSON'S SON IS CAPABLE OF RUNNING OUR SEWER PLANT AND OR PROJECTS.

DID EMC TAKE THE EQUIPMENT?  ARE WE CAPABLE OF PREPARING THE MONTHLY REQUIRED SEWER REPORTS TO THE EPA WITH THE MINUSCULE DETAILS REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW?

ARE WE GOING TO BE SUED FOR BREACH OF CONTRACT?

THERE ARE ALWAYS MORE THINGS BEHIND THE SCENES THAN MEET THE EYES, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO SEWERS AND ENGLAND.

IF ANYONE COMES UP WITH MORE INFORMATION, WILL YOU PLEASE LET US KNOW?

THE AUDIT SHOULD HAVE COME OUT BEFORE THE ELECTION BUT CONVENIENTLY DID NOT, CONCERNING SEWER FINANCIALS.

NO ENGLAND, THERE ARE MORE THAN A FEW OF US WHO DO NOT BELIEVE YOU NOR WILKERSON NOR BRINKWORTH ARE CAPABLE OF MANAGING/RUNNING OUR SEWERS.  WONDER WHY?

This is EXACTLY the kind of apparent incompetence that keeps New Albany back in the Stone Age. And I'm always surprised at the self-styled "Progressives" who aid and abet this sort of thing. It's all a flagrant slap in the face to all the New Albanians who work hard, pay their taxes, and are none the wiser simply because they don't understand.

Firing EMC? Not a good idea. Letting England manage things? A PRICELESS scourge against New Albany.

Skeptical said...

You guys seem as bent out of shape about this as the Judgment Day believers are excited about May 21st. In both cases, I'd say there's a grain of truth. But do we KNOW that England is doing something fishy? We have no more evidence than Harold Camping does about May 21st being the End of Days.

Obviously, I'm ready, just in case, but I don't see any need for an all-caps announcement.

I could care less what "you" think. And, I don't care what you see as a "need".

We already know "you" think you are the only one who is capable and knows what should be published about New Albany.

The history stands behind citizens and anything with sewers and England. But, then again, that was before you!

If you could care LESS, that must mean you care a lot.

Dream on.... Is it Wilkinson or Wilkerson?

No progress for you if the sewers fail.

Is it true the New Albany Library is closed because of a sewer backup? Has it been closed since Friday? Is there contamination and is that a health danger to the staff and public?

Anonymous said...

There is an article about the library in the Tribune. The Bank you are referring to is probably Main Source Bank.

Anonymous said...

If the library is closed, will there be a public hearing for the River View on Wednesday?

Anonymous said...

Who knows?

IDEM shows New Albany had Sanitary Sewer Overflows on Feb 25 with 2.17 inches of rain, March 9 with 2.56 inches of rain, April 12 with 2.59 inches of rain and April 23/24 with 4.52 inches of rain. Wondering what the April report to EPA (and available at the library) due on May 15 will say. The Ohio River flooding should tell another story.

After all the sewage running in the streets, EPA MUST refuse ALL sewer taps ins because New Albany is NOT IN COMPLIANCE! How can anyone consider adding developments like River View and others to the sewer system!

“THERE ARE ALWAYS MORE THINGS BEHIND THE SCENES THAN MEET THE EYES, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO SEWERS AND ENGLAND.”
You can say that again – and again and again! Yes, we’ve been there, done that before EMC arrived in 2000!!!

Why would Mayor England let EMC go? If you believe the Sewer Board can handle the management of the New Albany utility better than EMC, perhaps you would like to buy some swampy, flooded land (in New Albany). Yes, there is the EPA paper work for the Capacity, Management, Operation and Maintenance (CMOM) program, as well as the tangible workings of the sewer system – pipes, lift stations, and wastewater plant to keep.

Looking for Mayor England to say that EMC didn’t build/run a wastewater plant and system correctly, since 2000. As we always said, they weren’t given the correct information back then.

Anonymous said...

Sure hope the EMC employees don’t take the bait and become city employees. Although, they would be the people who would be able to tell EPA all the ‘information’ they need. Sorry, we don’t call them snitches, just undercover heroes.

Where would that be at 7:30 AM? I see no where he wants unity. Or is this him talking to himself trying to get readers fired up? Let me know or else I'm just going to delete the comment.

He's got his own blog and he sure to heck ain't talking unity.

thanks.

Oh, hey, found his remarks about unity and you're right! Yes, I don't think he'll find it especially amongst those 3 organizations.

Wnder if that meeting is going to be held Wednesday? They don't have time to run a new legal setting it up somewhere else.

Maybe that's why Doug "the thug" fired EMC. Found out our sewers couldn't handle the developement and that we failed our 100 year storm test which cost us over $60 million.

There's a lot more to this than meets the eye and as citizens paying for fiasco after fiasco, we will be the last ones to know.

Appreciate all of the rainfall totals earlier and the overflows.

Two inches most certainly are not a one hundred year storm, so, it's going to get ugly for new development.

Do any of you think Shelle England has any credibility now? Do you feel she's not one to be the spokesperson promoting anything? Do you feel she shouldn't be on all the boards and getting paid? Ugghh.

Anonymous said...

I would like to point out that in regards to the overflows, it is very important, for the interest of clarity (if you are at all interested in that) the amount of rain we had received in a two week period was more than we had received since 1895. It was the single highest amount of rain recorded in the month of April.
Most tributaries as well as the Ohio River remained at or above flood stage for well over a week.
While you feel it is needed to chide the city government regarding the sewage overflow, you have failed to acknowledge that the efforts by our storm water workers and volunteers kept major parts of our city from being flooded, and remaining flooded. But of course, as par for the course, you have to find a negative to every story and inflate it to suit your agenda.

Anonymous said...

“I would say this is the biggest show we’ve had in awhile,” said Shelle England,

Yea, you sure did put on quite a show!

Anonymous said...

And, as par for the course, 8:35, you have no knowledge of the sewer plans nor the Consent Decree and how we HAD TO, HAD TO, handle a 100 year storm. Did you have raw sewage running across and down your street and in your homes? I doubt it.

Who are you to say no one appreciates the works of any and all who tried to protect theirselves from the rain?

Talking to the wrong person.

Anonymous said...

For those who don't know, there was another show in town about a month ago. I couldn't (or wouldn't believe) it the first three times I heard the story, even though it was coming from reputable people. But, now I know someone who witnessed it and who is credible and the thug actually laid down in the middle of Market Street daring the State Boys to come and get him. That's how trashed he was a month ago. Laid down in the middle of the street.

Whoever (or whomever) made him decide not to run for Mayor -- and it was not his choice, has really put a "burden" on him.

Anonymous said...

The part most don't understand is when we rebuilt (retooled) the new plant and put in the $1 million dollar waterfall, it was to be designed to handle a 100 year flood. I think we had our 100 year flood. That's the issue.

Actually yes, yes we did in our neighborhood, thank you very much.

And I maintain, that considering the total amount of rain, and the state of many other communities surrounding New Albany, we faired pretty damn well by way of comparison. But as I mentioned, that cannot and will not be mentioned or considered on invective blogs like this. No, this place has to point out the antagonistic side of everything.

Ask the EPA, 9:45. Invective - hah. Reality sucks, huh?

Anonymous said...

Yes, none of us are going to know the true extent of damages until EMC's latest report comes out.

So, I'm not quite sure how you are able to make any comparisons.

Mike Lukowich, P.E., Environmental Engineer, Water Division - WECA Branch, Chicago, IL 60604.

Notification went to Barbara VanTil at the EPA over sewer backups, overflows, raw sewage, and the Library - head of District 5 of EPA and Mike has been assigned the case because of the violations of the Consent Decree.

Thanks to the private citizens of NA who really know what is going on. So please, don't ask us for the proof or the evidence. He has taken on the case for the citizens.

The EPA believes the private citizens over the Mayor of New Albany.

We have the street names, locations, manholes. Do your homework and call the EPA like we did.

So, Mayor England, enjoy taking over EMC and the consequences for your lack of maintenance concerning stormwater.

This should be very interesting.

Better Wait For The Report Before We Consider This Damaged said...

"Yes, none of us are going to know the true extent of damages until EMC's latest report comes out."
Seriously? That is your best rebuttal? The great anti-current administration gang suggests we wait for a report from EMC before we know the extent of the damages?
How convenient to cite agencies that are considered completely lamentable 99% of the time, but when it suits you, it is used as a scapegoat to attempt to avoid addressing the root of the question proposed.
I may be old school, but I still believe the best way to judge the effects of a flood event is to walk outside, and walk around. If you do not find yourself drowning in floodwaters, then you are not flooded.

Anonymous said...

I'll cite EMC because of the details they HAVE to cite to meet the EPA mandate. Details the administration could no more come up with than the man in the moon.

"The root of the question proposed"?

Baylor, we suggest you do the responsible thing and tell the England family don't drink and drive.

Dont fret, they are simple yes or no questions said...

Riddle me this:

1. Did we have sewage overflows across LARGE areas of town, or were they isolated incidents?

2. Were large area of town flooded due to storm sewer backups?

3. Were the citizens of New Albany issued a ban on water usage?

4. Were homes, apartments, and businesses across large areas of the city negatively affected by sewage backups flooding into basements, crawls spaces, etc?

I look forward to you directly answering these questions if you are capable of doing so.

What are we going to pay the bill with, 1:58? If 85 cents of every dollar in our general fund goes to police and fire. There are fifteen cents on the dollar left to pay the othewr fifteen departments. We have no budget, we've been cut 3 million dollars sounds like we are on the verge of bankrupcy as a city. Then What?

evidently, these are far to complicated questions to answer, or it is ignored because it will undermine pecksniffian statements made previously.

and why don't you go get in touch with EMC and get the May 15 report coming out that will show ALL these things? citizens were only paying emc over 3 million a year for you to have those answers?

Dont be so touchy said...

I knew it! You all raise a holy stink over this stuff, but refuse to answer 4 simple questions regarding this previous rain event. Everything is fine as long as you can whine, but as soon as someone asks simple questions, all they get is this is my toy, go get your own. Babies.

If you live on high ground, you can walk around there just fine and see no problems. Walk the creeks and low lands to see how high the flood water go. Watch the items that float pass you. Hint: if that creek does rise to your high ground, move so you won't drown, even if your land is flooded.

...11:21 AM -- Information should not be given out now, just to see if the 'city' actually reports everything to EPA and IDEM. I'm sure Mr Lukowich would like to receive pictures or reports from citizens, even if they told the city about their problems. In the past some people reported their problems to the media. Not sure the media actually goes out looking for stories anymore. I guess they only use twitter and/or facebook to do their work.

But, hey, I'm bad on links anyway. Need to get myself educated.
