BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD.

WHEN WILL SOMEONE GIVE THE CITY A LESSON ON BUDGETS? THE DEPARTMENTS ARE NOT UNDER FUNDED. THEY OVER SPENT THE MONIES GIVEN TO THEM BY THE COUNCIL.

WHEN WILL SOMEONE GIVE THE COUNCIL A LESSON ON BUDGETS? THE DEPARTMENTS ARE NOT UNDER FUNDED. THEY OVER SPENT THE BUDGETS SET BY COUNCIL FOR THIS PAST YEAR.

WHEN WILL SOMEONE GIVE THE CONTROLLER AND THE MAYOR A LESSON ON BUDGETS?

IF EVERY MONTH EACH DEPARTMENT HEAD CAME TO THE COUNCIL AND THE CONTROLLER GAVE THE COUNCIL A MONTHLY BUDGET VARIANCE REPORT (AS REQUIRED BY INDIANA LAW) THIS CRAP WOULD STOP REAL FAST.

CAN'T YOU JUST IMAGINE EACH DEPARTMENT HEAD TRYING TO EXPLAIN WHY THAT PARTICULAR MONTH THEY OVER SPENT? THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE AND THEN THERE WOULD BE NO SURPRISES. OR, AS GOMER PYLE WOULD SAY "SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE."

COUNCIL SHOULD MAKE EACH DEPARTMENT HEAD APPEAR AT ONE MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING, WITH THEIR COPY OF THEIR BUDGET VARIANCE REPORT FOR THE MONTH, AND IF A NEGATIVE NUMBER SHOWS UP EITHER FIRE THE DEPARTMENT HEAD OR APPOINT ONE WHO CAN HANDLE THE BUDGET SET BY COUNCIL.

IS THIS ASKING TOO MUCH? WHY DID THE CONTROLLER STOP HANDING OUT THE MONTHLY VARIANCE REPORTS? THE REPORTS USE TO BE CALLED "GREENBAR REPORT" BECAUSE THEY WERE PRINTED ON THE BIG GREEN LINED COMPUTER PAPER. WHY NO TRANSPARENCY? WHY NO HOLDING THE FEET TO THE FIRE?

I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF CITIZENS' MONTHLY OR YEARLY BUDGETS WENT TO HELL IN A HAND BASKET EVERY YEAR LIKE THIS CITY'S!

CITY HALL, YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN THE CITIZENS/TAXPAYERS. GET A GRIP, STOP YOUR BITCHING AND DO YOUR FRIGGING JOBS WE PAY YOU TO DO.

STOP THREATENING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THEY HAVE TAKEN THE DEEP CUTS BUT YOU SEEM TO BE REALLY SCARED OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. WE WONDER WHY BECAUSE IT IS JUST SO DOGGONE OBVIOUS.

IT'S GETTING REALLY, AND I MEAN REALLY, OLD. SAME STORIES EVERY YEAR. UGLY, TOO. AND, IT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING FOR THE IMAGE OF THIS ADMINISTRATION. THIS SHOWS A TOTAL LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY, MISMANAGEMENT AND IGNORANCE.

*Grammar 101 brought to you by an educated citizen of New Albany.

The New Albanian said...

As Dan Coffey illustrates regularly, city resident need not be educated in order to claim expertise, whether grammar or budgets.

Anonymous said...

I actually agree with you! THis is getting REALLY REALLY old, the same stories over and over again. And all the ugliness that goes along with the constant arm-chair politician second guessing and bashing of everything any elected official, or cop does in this town.

Anonymous said...

Why is it called a green bar report?

Anonymous said...

called green bar from the old days when new albany actually had some green $$$$ money to display on the report. they should now call it the red bar report since all the money is gone and the numbers are in the red now.

Best council meeting I've been to in a long time. Here I thought Baylor had resigned to attending. He's got a billy goat beard. Nasty if I might say. He was to busy taking Denhart's picture. I might add she did do a hell of a good job.
Glad to hear she's running against Coffey.

The New Albanian said...

Is she even in Coffey's district?

I did get a good shot of her -- noce little rivulet of spittle running down the chin. Priceless (wish er were). I'll send the photo to the Tribune.

How about that said...

Why Roger, we thought you knew everything about Ms. Denhart? I'll make it easy on you this time, and [YES], she's in Coffey's District.
She can take Cappuccino out for you.
Did I make your day?

The New Albanian said...

Hey, just curious. Denhart vs. Cappuccino would be the most entertaining race in many a year.

Our city faces serious problems, with an estimated $2 million that could force cuts to police, fire and communication employees. I don't see how he can be an effective leader or an effective mayor. He's ineffective because the citizenery and no one trust him.
Everyday he doesn't resign is a detriment to the citizen's.
The mayors arrogant disposition that he can do what he wants, say what he wants and provide lame excuses is outrageous behavior that should appauld anyone with half of a brain. My wife and I applaud Mrs. Denhart for telling the truth and calling Mayor England out and saying what everyone else has been thinking and didn't dare say.

Anonymous said...

Did she really call England a liar? God Almighty, this train just keeps on wrecking.

Anonymous said...

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH BUDGETS? SOUNDS LIKE SPRING STREETS BICYCLE LANES.

Anonymous said...

Timberlake only lost by 32 votes and she was an unknown. Vicki was raised in the Westend and everyone wants Coffey out. So why attack her is my question.

Anonymous said...

Another one bits the dust. "The Winnery" is the next bar to close. I was told by the Humphrey's they will be closing soon. U celebrate the day Bank Street Brewhouse goes how about the rest of you?

The New Albanian said...

Where's the Winnery?

Can losers go there, or just winners? If winners, then you may be out of luck, anonymous -- again.

Happy to see you pulling for small business. Hopefully your Wal-Mart stock will see you through until you learn to spell.

Anonymous said...

I'll assume Anonymous is talking about the "winery" as in River City Winery. As a note, RCW is not a bar. But if there is such a term "Winnery" that would describe us well. We just won 11 medals in the Indy International Wine Competition including a Double Gold for Pomegranate Blueberry. We also just won the right to include ourselves on a very short list known as "INDIANA ARTISANS" There are less than 150 in the whole state. Not sure who Anonymous is but he or she is an obvious liar. They didn't hear anything of the sort from us. Business couldn't be better. In fact, we're looking to expand.

I've never respected nor do I take seriously others that blog anonymously. Mr. Anonymous, I offer you three tips:
1. Please educate yourself with the facts before you blog about my business downtown. If you have questions about the "WINERY" I'm there Tuesday through Sunday and would be more than happy to meet with you. I'm not sure what Humphrey you spoke to, but I assure you it wasn't the owners of River City Winery.
2. Use spell check next time you blog.
3. Take a grammar class. The plural form of Humphrey is Humphreys. Humphrey's, as you wrote, shows possession.

I was in the bookstore the other day at 6:55 and the manager told me they were closing soon. Sure enough, at 7 o'clock they kicked me out and locked the door.

The New Albanian said...

It's just a perpetual giggle for me when the social misfits courageously lie from behind their aliases, and then disappear back under their rocks when their bluffs are called.

I'm about to close, too -- the lid on the toilet, so I can flush troglodyte lies with confidence.

bayernfan said...

As the manager of the bookstore, I can promise you that we've never kicked anyone out. We've stayed open as much as an hour after our normal closing time to allow people to shop or wait for people who have called and asked if they could come get something.

Sorry, anonymous 8:07, that's just a bald-faced lie that you've told and it's a pathetic one at that.

The New Albanian said...

I think 8:07 was making a funny, meant to show that "we're closing" can mean different things in different contexts.

bayernfan said...

Okay...if that's the case, sorry. I'm a bit sensitive these days about stuff like that.

Anonymous said...

I had heard Mr. H. denied he even owned the place but put it in his wife's name. Who cares. Too many bars downtown.

Just my opinion.

Anonymous said...

Roger loves Dalby when he gets something. He gets up set with Ceasar for supporting Dalby. He doesn't get it. Not everything is about and for him.
Then ask him [Roger] who he is in bed with?

Too funny.

Btw, wasn't it the Kitchen Table who told tiy first "Studio's was closing?"

Btw #2, how many you got on your shit list now, Roger? We bet you got more people against you than for you.

The New Albanian said...

Yawn. Feel free to change the subject when you don't have a leg to stand on, which happens so often that you've become a veritable quadriplegic of argumentation. It doesn't change your fundamental cowardice, anonymous.

And you might want to spell Caesar's name correctly. Makes you look (even more) stupid not to be able to spell.

Anonymous said...

Past Council people and the City referred to the Budget Variance Report as the green bar report because it was printed on larger than legal computer paper. Pages and pages of all departments showing the variance between what was budgeted for each department and how much spent so far.

People not use to computer age called these reports the green bar reports.

Anonymous said...

The Winery has nothing to do with our local budget and what is going on downtown with our money.

I'm against any tolls on the bridge, s, and I resent our money being used to advance the idea we should have tolls.

Zurschmeide and Caesar make no sense in the arguements they presented about the tolls. Or should we say what arguments? Duh.

8664 is a real solution. I feel if they keep talking 3 to 6 dollars for tolls they will probably end up being 50 cents so we won't yell about sticker shock and be happy they turned out so low. Good luck Kentucky with Abramson.

Anonymous said...

You're right! The winery has nothing to do with local budgets. But... the winery and other emerging small businesses in the downtown historic district, have a lot to do with the future of our community. The effect small businesses have on the city will almost be as important as the effect our city's slumlords, especially those on the council, have on it.

And yes Mr. H owns the whole thing! The building that is. The two businesses in the building are tenants.

Anonymous said...

But where is every 1 going to park? The Winery takes a lot of it in the evening. Where will the patrons of La Rosita's park?

I don't see them walking from the parking garage on State. Even Wick's customers park every where else but there.

The New Albanian said...

We were in Madison WI a couple of weeks ago. On the isthmus, around the statehouse, there are many pubs and restaurants. People park in the many parking garages and walk from place to place. People will do so in NA, too, given a bit of time to remember they have legs.

Anonymous said...

You mean that they made the bars and restaurants in the shape of a Jesus Fish around the Statehouse?

Anonymous said...

The winery takes up the parking or is it really the patrons that are supporting the downtown area?

Mr. Anonymous, why are you singling out the winery? I can think of other businesses whose patrons takes up quite a few spots too, but that's an exciting thing! I'm rather happy to see the popularity of Downtown New Albany. Can't we celebrate the individuals that are investing their hard earned money and taking a huge risk to help boost the downtown area! Thanks to all of you who have made a difference and who continue to support one another.

Anonymous said...

That was not a bad comment about the Winery. I swear, spoken like a true wanna be politician.

Restaurants on Bardstown Road does not have a lot of parking and the congestion and inconvenience trying to get to 1 of them is a problem.

Jack Fry's has parking. But most don't.

I called Office Depot and they no longer sell Green bar paper. Then I called best buy and they said they don't make the printers that print on that paper anymore. Maybe this is why that don't print those 1970's style reports anymore.

Anonymous said...

Real funny! Smart a**. Get up the Controller's you know what and get her to print the Monthly Budget Variance Report for all Department Heads and Council people. So much could be achieved (maybe) if people simply had the info and were able to look at it.

I wish you had called her instead lol.

Anyone notice the Board of Works passed the health care deal but NO one has voted on it yet. Why are they coming to the Council? Because they want US to pay for their healthcare. Screw them, I don't have health care and I will be damned if I plan to pay theirs.

Wonder what England makes off the deal?

Anonymous said...

Yeah its a trip England trying to balance the budget on the backs of city employees rather than stopping unauthorized and unneccessary spending.

Anonymous said...

Thats funny....I called Office depot and they said they do sell it! hmmmmmm

Wonder why the City Clerk's web site is still down?
Is someone being shut up or someone(s) being shut out?
Interesting. Remember that come election time!!!

How much money did you get from Dalby?

The New Albanian said...

Witty response -- and original, too! You're just upset that Steve Price and I finally agree on something.

If you want us to move to Europe, tell your councilperson that you support using EDIT funds to relocate the progressives. $5 million ought to rid your underachieving ghost town of us all.

Then, as we enjoy the wonders of Amsterdam, you can return to time-tested pastimes like cock fighting, glue sniffing and wife beating.

The New Albanian said...

Ask the Horseshoe Foundation.

Dalby gave me a sidewalk and patio. Wait! That was the other guy ...

Anonymous said...

England is spending all the EDIT money, Riverboat money and the Rainy Day Fund on a new creative idea and it's not for economic development. I also understand we just spent 1.2 million for Pineview Elementary. Why?

I think the issue of 4.4 million of EDIT, Riverboat and Rainy Day funds were taken or talked about being taken at the Council Workshop last night. Is it true 2 council people didn't show up and one was an hour late?

Anyone know?

NOT ME said...

Three did not show up. Price, Gahan and Benedetti. Smart council members, I might say. Their not buying the so called Gibson plan. Do you really buy that Gibson's wrote it?

Anonymous said...

I guess he wrote it with his skeleton hand.

Anonymous said...

What does Kitchen Table think about the tolling?

Anonymous said...

NO TOLLS.

HOW ABOUT THAT said...

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks about tolls, it's gonna happen and it's a done deal.

EVERYONE KNOWS SHANE GIBSON IS WORTHLESS. WHY HE THINKS HE CAN BEAT ED CLERE IS BEYOND ME. TO MANY DEMOCRATS LIKE ED AND EVERYONE KNOWS GIBSON'S NOT WORTH WHAT HE'S BEING PAID. LOOK WHAT THE JERK HAS DONE TO THE CITY, WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT HIM IN INDIANAPOLIS?

Anonymous said...

The county bought Pine View for a youth shelter. It's a good deal except the EPA said its a sick building.

The guy who sold Baylor his building got the Tabernacle from the City for $1.00. What a deal.

Gibson is worthless Go Clere. Clere needs to get on the same page as citizens about the tolls though. We need to back him up on that issue.

Anonymous said...

Ro New Albanian, So you progressives think you're worth $5 million? For $100.00 and a case of Bud Light we could take care of all of you. You progressives would fall like a bag of patatoes off your bikes.

That's the spirit. Lay down and die to appease the suits -- anything except agree with the obvious.

Cut the Crap said...

Why is Roger attacking and (bullying) Clere? England's name is on the list for supporting the toll. It is like everything else he and the progressives do, give what you can for free and if you don't agree with us, "screw you!" Remember folks these are the same people the progressives (Baylor, Smith, Gillenwater and bipolar Nash who attacked St. Mary's for cutting their own trees down to replace the steeple.

They harrass anyone who stands up or states how they feel and if Mr. Clere hasn't proven hisself after the last two years than you've been hiding under a slime rock or drinking his swill beer and by the way your beer sux and it's over priced.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Clere needs to change his stance on the tolls. Other than that I'm all for him.

Anonymous said...

Anyone can say what ever Roger wants to hear, Clere does not owe him a response. Just because Gibson is a moron and says what everyone wants to hear why should Clere.

England's a supporter of tolls so why isn't Roger on his ass?

A double standard in my book.

Anonymous said...

"They harrass anyone who stands up or states how they feel and if Mr. Clere hasn't proven hisself after the last two years than you've been hiding under a slime rock or drinking his swill beer and by the way your beer sux and it's over priced."

So Clere makes beer and it "suxs"? Didn't know.

The New Albanian said...

The part I can't figure out is this. If Gibson's a puppet of England, and if England is for tolls, how can Gibson be against tolls?

Anonymous said...

Someone is actually against the winery because it takes up parking places....seriously? To my count there are 667 parking places within one block of the winery. And that's not including the private lot next to the building. I think we can manage. And yes I counted them one by one.

Anonymous said...

THE PRIVATE LOT BY THE BUILDING? That's owned by us, the City, taxpayers. We have to pay to park there during the day.

Anonymous said...

Clere is not for tolls. Have you ever heard him say he's for them? NO. Never. 'Cause he's not. We have nothing to convince Clere about because he's not for tolls. The Indy Dems came up with that for Shane just like they came up with all his other story ideas.

As for spelling, I've finally started poking around the internet about all these candidates and issues and if you look at Gibson's own stuff you can see that he can't spell worth a darn or write with proper grammar. How'd he pass the bar?

I've looked everywhere for a quote from Clere saying that he supports tolls. There is none. Also, I can't find anybody that knows him well that says he does either.

Now, England, HE supports tolls so he can get more money downtown. What he wants to do with it is anybody's guess.
