ETHICS - - IN NEW ALBANY? YEAH, RIGHT.

We have lobbied over several years time to try and get the City Council of New Albany to pass ETHICS laws. We watched other cities, including Indianapolis, pass this legislation. This issue is harder to talk about than Code Enforcement. I wonder why!

Wouldn't you like to see no Nepotism? Wouldn't you like to see disclosures of who is in business with who and why only certain ones, over and over, are given certain jobs in this fair City?

Can you imagine England not being able to put his wife on all those boards and other people with great ideas not beholding to him put forth new ideas for our City? Yeah, right.

Can you imagine being able to talk about developments, etc., without having to figure out which ones England is in business (bed) with?

Can you imagine finding out why our illegal Deputy Mayor makes more than the Mayor? Somehow you know that can't be true because England would never allow such a thing to occur and has to be making the money up somehow. Why won't the Council come forward and tell Citizens why they never approved this position and yet let it happen year after year? Why does a City this size even need a Deputy Mayor?

The proposed riverfront development comes to mind. Two people mentioned in the paper proposing development on the River are in business with England on the Box Tree Inn. Does the Box Tree Inn ever do any business except on Derby?

Are the chickens coming home to roost in the Building Commissioner's office with another business partner of England's being hired? Another travesty.

We agree with the Tribune about City employees not serving on the City Council. It is a big conflict of interest and to us, flat out wrong. We also agree the Police should not be into Politics.

Oh, well. We can dream about new ideas and new people and no one beholding to the Mayor, can't we?

We would call the answers to the above questions true Accountability, a thing not heard of in this fair City. What do you think?

BOY YOU DREAM BIG DON'T YOU? What a concept especially for NA.

that wouldve saved Messer some problems hey?

Do you think that landlords being on the city council is also a conflict of interest?

Anonymous said...

There may be only 2 council members that are not landlords. How can you pass laws no landlords on city council?

Anonymous said...

They are passing laws that are in their favor. No code enforcement, no registration, no responsabilities for their properties and how is that fair?

Anonymous said...

England won't pass code enforcement. The Council doesn't do anything he doesn't want. How is that fair?

He wants annexation and the council is sending it to committee to see if it is best option for the city. That doesnt sound like doing what the Mayor wants. That sounds like a group that was present with something and using what brains they do have to explore all options.

Anonymous said...

Yes, but the money originally set aside by Council for this thing was misspent. Check with the Clerk's office.

How do you explain a Charlestown Road annexation ending up in the 1st District - Coffey's unless it comes in through Eagle's Lane?

Doug wanted annexation and HIS Council people voted for it. How is that doing something England doesn't want?

Anonymous said...

They voted for it to go to committee. In no way, shape or form has it been finalized.

Coffey didnt vote to have the first reading passed. He is the last person that wants something from the Mayor.

And I am pretty sure that the council doesnt "own" the council. Gahan voted for the first reading and he hates the Mayor.

sorry the mayor doesnt "own" the council.

Even if you think different.

sorry u don't agree with comments. England has dirt on Benedetti, Messer, Zurschmeide. mode of operandi, blackmail. ask Messer. coffey and england have always been buddies and the game is real between the 2 just to fool someone like you.

i don't think zurschmeide is running again. benedetti won't win tho she thinks she will. messer won't run again. gonder, who knows.

politics in na are down and dirty. we are considered the 2nd most corrupt city in the state next to gary, but then you would have to talk to some really higher up people to find that out.

your argument was council not doing what england wanted and u mentioned annexation. they did exactly what he wanted.

how do you feel about your new code enforcement officer and the business ties with england? if you don't know who it is call downtown.

The problem in New Albany is people like you. Thinking that things are so wrapped up in theories and wanting things to be corrupt you actually think it is. If the "higher" ups know that something is going wrong then why don’t they do anything? Why don’t the authorities pound our local government? If they were stupid then it would be apparent to "higher" ups.
I have met the people that "run" the city; none of them are intellectually capable of covering up such a fiasco.

Luckily we aren't the problem but we are working on fixing it.

I see Freedom of Speech was right on the money about Messer retiring.

Anonymous said...

But the facts are the facts. England plays a dangerous game. The bigger you are the harder you fall.

Anonymous said...

What happen to the change England promised?

Anonymous said...

The "change" is in his pocket.

Anonymous said...

He left the change on the kitchen table, lol!

yawn..... same Sh!t, different blog

What happens if Messer gets hurt on the job with his bad back? Will the City be opened up to liability? Why is he waiting until May?

Anonymous said...

Anyone know how many suspensions before an officer is terminated? I was told he recently got one day off without pay over the license tag deal for K. Zurschmiede.
How come they never named Doug's new buddy in the piece in the paper and on WLKY.

The only Vienna sauage I see is between the ears of Baylor, or should I say mush.
Gosh, not one nasty comment about my Councilman Price.

Whose dumb enough to spend $65 for a meal per person? I've been to France and had a seven course meal for less. My wife is a way better cook than Josh.
Just ask Amy and Ed Clere.

Steve Price and Yvonne Kersey must go to the same hairdresser.

Messer is so done in New Albany, you could stick a fork in him. He'll be gone before next May and I'd put money on that.

Come on you all. Stick to the subject(s).

What change? Everyone knew England was a liar. He gave Malysz a fat check, a title, the safe us full in the Redevlopmeny office and he was forced to resign over sexual harrassment when he worked in Louisville.

The thing is WE AREN'T SUPPOSE TO KNOW THESE THINGS MUCH LESS TALK ABOUT 'EM. To me that's the infuriating part. Deny, deny, deny.

1. carl and steve will never build their riverfront development so there's no conflict there. it's not going to happen.

2. england didn't hire a "business partner" for building commissioner's office. england has never been in business with the building commissioner. the commissioner was an employee of a former business partner of england. big big difference.

my my my, how quickly the fact that officer Messer has been taking criminals off of the streets for almost 30 years is forgotten. It’s amazing how fast you people seem to forget that for all of those years he was out there in the severe weather, heat, cold, ice, tornadoes, missing holidays with his family, missing birthdays, graduations, not being to be with his family when they were sick. All to be out there protecting you fools. And don’t dish out the BS that was his choice and he knew what he was getting into when he became a cop, because that will not work. It actually makes it WORSE on you people because he chose of free will to miss all of that to serve YOU. And now no one can let this go because of a sentence he spoke. You all constantly ramble on and on about how you have your right to free speech, yet you will readily be willing to strip him of his same right, and demand to he be fired, when many of you have said far worse things about people and never once apologized for it. Many of you have applauded other blogs for publicly posting racially biased materials, and touted the authors of such as being heroes to freedom. The shallowness, on display by persons who would use this as an opportunity to kick this man when he is down is disgusting and inexcusable. Are you not mature enough to simply say that you feel his statement was wrong and leave it at that, or do you feel the need to use this as an excuse not keep race relations in this country and this city at a standstill and use this chance to reopen centuries old wounds and keep them bleeding because you find it entertaining? Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone. And we are ALL sinners, we have all at one point or time in our lives said something deeply offensive to someone, whether intentional or not, and did not apologize for it.
Ethics in this city will get no better until we hold ourselves to the same standards of conduct that we demand from our government, because remember a democratically elected government is of the people, by the people, for the people. If we are no better than that, then they will not be either.

You may wish to find out the new Code Enforcement Officer. Nothing was said about the Building Commissioner except as a reference to who was hired in there.

7:45 let declare Messer a saint based on your words.

He (Messer) was out fu*king his current wife (former dispatcher) when he was married to his first wife. So cut the family crap. He killed (in his police car) an older lady cross Spring Street, it was a pure cover-up by the NAPD to keep the city from being sued. On a abuse case Mr. Messer used his cell phone camera instead of following NAPD Policy, and shared it with others, case was thrown out because of his incompendence. Give us all a break anonymous!

His latest was pulling a tag for Kevin Zurschmiede whom he has Messer's wife as (an employee.)

Against NAPD Policy, and yes others do it, but he got caught. Now you wonder why Kevin votes for what ever England wants?

Plus the Prestwick deal on Slate Run Road.

You're a police officer because you want the big bucks and by choice.

Since you are not the expert you claim to be during holidays they are there when their kids open their gifts, the families bring food or they stop and eat with their families. Thanksgiving, Christmas and etc.

How do I know this, because one of NA's best Police Officers is a family member. So cut the bull shit drama and look at the hand, because your a damn liar.

Next.

And, to think this guy think's he should be Mayor.

Good grief, retire him before he kills aomeone else.

It's a small town, isn't it?

Anonymous said...

You got that right.

Anonymous said...

a so called family member of a police officer behaving like that how shameful.

Anonymous said...

Please tell us how Jack Messer and others on our current council has been looking out for the peoples best interest and who put them in office.
And to think some of these same people might run for re-election.
A scary thought.

please tell us why persons on this blog refuse to acknowledge that messer had completed the sensativity training.
