  1. Yes on the following:

    Eddie HODGES Dist 1
    Jessica KNABLE Dist 2
    Greg PHIPPS Dist 3
    Tony RUTHERFORD Dist 5

For District 4, I choose Pat McLAUGHLIN. Hiatt wouldn't do much and McLaughlin would do better under better tutelage.

For District 6, I choose Scott BLAIR. There's no way I'd choose Suellen Wilkinson, and Matt Oakley is too fundamentalist. Scott Blair should have run as a Republican, but Dave Matthews wouldn't let him because he'd voted in Democrat primaries.

For At-Large Council, I choose John GONDER, Steve BURKS, and it's a hard choice between Shirley BAIRD and Kevin ZURCHMEIDE.

For Mayor, Jeff GAHAN, hands down.

So, it looks like we're pretty much on the same page!

  5. Harvest homecoming in New Albany is your city’s biggest attraction and a chance for you to showcase your city to visitors. However, you chose not to take advantage of this opportunity. Driving into New Albany on Spring St makes one want to turn around and head back to Louisville as quickly as possible. Visitors to your city are welcomed by sites of abandoned buildings and houses, overgrown weeds and lawns, liter everywhere, and a pilferage of street spam. It looks like a place where no one there cares. At least in Louisville we take the extra effort and time to clean up the city at Derby time for our incoming visitors. It is a shame that the citizens and leadership of New Albany have allowed their city to get to that point. Why aren’t the businesses there complaining about those conditions? Why would anyone want to make a special trip to New Albany to eat at one of their restaurants or have an overpriced drink at the bank street swill house with the city looking like it does? If you want people to come to your city then make it a nice place to come to. New Albany has the potential to become a great place to visit or perhaps even live if the people and leadership there actually took some pride. Until then, there is no reason not to continue eating, drinking, and living in Louisville.

  7. No to Suellen Wilkinson! The nepotism must stop if any change can be expected. She's already on the Board of Works, Husband on Sewer Board, and son works for Sewer Department. Sounds like it's a positioning thing for another sewer increase.

Which candidates are willing to support a no nepotism policy and implement some real changes?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Thank you for endorsement. I have a new phone number (812) 725-7527.

  9. Shirley, are you ready to stop the nepotism downtown? What changes are you wanting to make? Have not heard a peep out of you about what you stand for and what you want see changes. If elected do you plan to get on the City's insurance plan? Time to quit being coy and shy and take a stand. We need leaders not followers.

  10. I believe that nepotism has its place and that we all need to hold hands and be like one happy family!

  12. Whoever that is that just made Shirley sound silly, you ought to be ashame of yourself. Here's who I want on the Council.

    1 Hodge
    2 Knable
    3 Phipps
    4 McClaughlin
    5 Rutheford
6 Not sure, but I think you might be right about Blair
At large 1 Gonder 2 Burks 3 Zurshmeide
For Mayor I'm still deciding between Jack and Jeff. I met that republican DM Bagsshaw. DM is part of the word DuMb. That's him.

  16. Nepotism requires two people be related. Who is related to who?

    ReplyDelete
  17. What part is England getting of the 5:37 salary. I think it's called a 'kickback.'

    ReplyDelete
  18. I can't vote for Jack, he plans to raise my sewer bill and call for the LOIT Tax.

    Big mistake!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hey 5:59 I'd say Sue Ellen's son is very related and so is her husband. FYI- she also sits on the housing board too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jeff's the man to clean up New Albany.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Eddie Hodges VOTED for Denhart, he told me himself. He also stated she was the only one qualified to sit on our council.

    And, I agree.

  22. "Nepotism: The practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, esp. by giving them jobs."

    Friends, not just relatives.

  23. Positive change is coming to our city including a balanced budget and better use of funding streams. I endorse the following people:
    Mayor: Bagshaw
    Precinct1: Hodges
    Precinct 2: Knable
    Precinct 3: Bledsoe
    Precinct 4: McLaughlin
    Precinct 5: Rutherford
    Precinct 6: Oakley

At Large: Zurschmiede, Burks and Baird

Doug, Carl Shane and Pat: Start packing!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thank you for the endorsement. (If elected) 1st business is to repeal the policy letting elected city council officials give themselves the City's insurance plan. In No way should the people of New Albany pay for ANY insurance plan for city officials for a part time job,PERIOD!

    Tonye Rutherford
    District 5

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks, Tonye, for visiting us on here and saying that. We appreciate your strength of character and know you'll do a great job on the council!

    ReplyDelete
  26. As for nepotism, don't you think that there's nothing BUT nepotism going on in the England administration? I can't imagine him offering Dave Matthews a job somewhere in the city. JMHO

  27. Whoever made those comments about me please stop. If you can't sign your real name done use another person's name.

I thought I had made my positions clear on face book and a various appearances but here they are.

    1. Balance the budget. I plan to go over the budget line by line (along with other council members) to see where cuts can me made without sacrificing services.
    2. Restore our downtown area without using tax payer dollars.
    3. Bring back our Neighborhood Watch Programs.
    4. Help obtain more government grants to restore our neglected neighborhoods.
    5. Expand the Code Enforcement Department.
    6. Attract new businesses to expand our tax base and create new jobs.
    7. Aggressively collect delinquent sewer bills.
    8. Improve our park system. Add playground equipment and park benches to Bicknell and Binford Parks and do something about the ducks and geese at Community Park.

Now you are going to ask where the money is coming from to do these improvements. Please see number 6.
If we have more people working, they will also be paying taxes. We do not need to raise taxes, we just need more people contributing to our tax base.

Many people have asked me why I want to be on the City Council and why I think that I am qualified.

I love New Albany and want to help make it a better place to live and work. That is wny I am running.

I have been a regular attendee of the city council meetings for over 8 years. By regular I mean that I have attended as many meetings as most of the members themselves. I doubt that any candidate who is not currently on the council can say the same. This has given me years of unpaid "on the job" training.

If elected I promise to work hard and listen to everyone's concerns and take action.

I am easy to reach, my email is shirleybaird642@insightbb.com.

  28. I meant so say DON'T use another person's name. sorry

  29. I forgot to comment on the nepotism and insurance plan questions:

No one in my family is employed by the city. My brother-in-law Charles Baird was employed in the Flood Control Department but he retired several years ago. (He got that job on his own).

If elected I will not sign up for the city's insurance plan. I am employed by Norton Healthcare and I am covered under Humana. If I am lucky enough to serve on the council until I reach retirement age (not far away) I will sign up for Medicare and find my own supplement insurance and pay for it myself.

I do not believe that a person with a part time job should have full coverage insurance paid for by their employer. If a council member decides to accept insurance they should be under the same rules of any other part time employee. Most employers who cover part time employees only provide half of the benefits or require them to pay for half of the cost of insurance themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh my Tonye rutherford you know so much about being a part time job. I guess you will follow in the foot steps of the rest of the republicans! You don't even know the difference between board of works and flood control come on.
Tonye Rutherford will say anything to get elected he knows his opponent took the insurance plan and let me tell you she is very deserving of it, she knows more knowledge on the council then anyone sitting in any seat. Knowledge people are scared of!!!!!
Diane Benedetti has worked very hard for this community and we are very thankful to her. It's not part time to her she helps anyone 24 hours a day.
You loose her you will loose a lot!
Good luck Tonye but my vote will stay with Diane!
Don't bash people who want to do things for new Albany
    And be progressive

  31. Who ever put the comment in here about spring street, just ran into councilwoman Diane Benedetti and she is working on something for spring street give her a call she is great!!!!!

And would love some input I am meeting with her next week!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Diane Benedetti is a moneyed, politically-well-heeled, hack for the England administration. She MUST go.

Shirley, I appreciate your comments. And, no, people should NOT EVER get on here saying they're someone else. I believe this has happened before.

Baylor, Gillenwater, Smith, Caufield, et al, take a hint. We're onto you. Stop pulling this crap. You people get on here and write whatever. Why you'd pick on Shirley, I don't get. Go back to picking on trolls.

  33. Thank you very much for the endorsement. I welcome all questions; my phone number is listed and my email is jnknab@insightbb.com. Thank you again.

  34. Diane has dedicated more of herself to being a council person than any of the other current council members. She's not the type to just go with the flow and just accept the information that is presented by the administration as fact. She learned early on that there is often much more than just the information being provided. She does her homework and goes the extra mile to ensure her decisions are based on all the facts. She’s an experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated fighter for all the citizens of this community. We need Diane and more council members who share her same tenacity and dedication if we expect to see any real productive changes in New Albany in the next four years. She's got my vote.

  37. NSP has nothing to do with the Housing Authority. The contract is a matter of the Redevelopment Commission and the mayor's office. By the way, it's a contract for all expenses and not a $100,000 salary. She gas to use those funds to pay her own insurance, pay employer portion of taxes, own transportation, supplies, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  38. What does anyone know about Phipps?

    ReplyDelete
  39. 11:48. "Has to do with the Redevelopment Commission and the mayor's office" That tells it all then. $100,000 is a lot for something that City staff should be doing themselves as part of their job responsibilities.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wait a minute, do you mean the same woman who runs DNA is making 100,000 from redevelopment? When did this happen?

Thank you for your endorsement for City Counsel. Looking forward to the challenges ahead of me.

  43. Diane B. has not been a team player. She does not return her calls and she has cut several deals with the England administration. It is discrimination when you only let part time council members get healthcare. Those three that got it can sure pay for it themselves. 2. How come they never offered healthcare to any other part time person working for the city. 3. She knows, we all know she was drunk and NO one can convince me she didn't buy herself out of it either.
Tonye you got my vote and many others in the district. They might not have your sign in the yard but you got their vote.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jessica, you got my vote too. See saw's gotta goooooo.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 8:22, I hate to disagree with you, but she's dumber than a box of rocks. She's a phony bitch who doesn't know shit!!!!

When is she going to get Floyd County tags?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Diane Benedetti does try to look into things and do her homework. I will agree with that. But driving while drunk shows a lack of control. First of all, why do so many adults around here GET drunk all the time? You should have gotten over that by the end of college. So, NO to Benedetti.

As for Wilkinson, I can't think of a more two-faced person on the ballot. She's another England crony, and she's a huge phony. NO to Wilkinson. I'm voting for Oakley.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Why are you picking on city insurance if Shirley did not have insurance she would apply just like jeff Gahan through the school system taxpayers are paying .
Look at all county councils, city councils, towns, they all offer this as usual you want to criticize what you don't know about it . As an employee everyone pays there share.
People on here are so small minded that's why new Albany will be stag net is because small minded people who have this opinion and don't know what there talking about.
Coffey has county insurance who is paying for that?
Never mind I am not small minded!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Put Tonye signs up all over we want to see them are you scared?
A jury and a judge could not find Benedetti guilty so I know by your comment your not qualified.
People are so jealous leave her alone.
Hey Vickie where is the tape you people talk a big way but don't produce any evidence.
Whoever put on here about drunk sure does not know mrs Benedetti very well!
But keep bashing her what goes around comes around and the good lord will take care of you.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wait about the money mr & mrs Benedetti have been very successful what about it. They have worked hard!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow!!!
    Go Benedetti
    Go Benedetti
You know you have a lot of support thanks for staying away from these people because what's on here they don't know you as a person. There are very few small minded people on here with sour grapes!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hey Shirley your not even on the council and you already want to judge some of the people you will be working with nt a very good idea. That is what is wrong everyone wants to pre judge who are talking and they have never served.
Your a candidate now why don't you tackle and talk about the budgets besides saying you will go over it line by line. Your part of the same old thing you lost a vote!

    ReplyDelete
  52. People, please for the love of whatever deity learn to spell and use correct grammar. Please. You scare the crap out of me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. 7:12 I do not judge other people. I was only responding to questions about the budget.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I can spell quite well, thank you, 7:36. In addition, I can use proper grammar. What about word choice, such as "crap?"

As for Benedetti, I've seen her with enough beer in her hand to wonder if she might be drinking swill. Just musing, and amusing myself awaiting the inevitable response.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well, I see Baylor is announcing that Doug England is the one who showed him the drawings for "Come to City." And he's announced that Carl Malysz says City Hall knew nothing.

So, could it be that Baylor has ceased being Fluffinstuff and that he now has an interest in the truth?

    Nah. Not likely.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Don't count on it 10:32. Fluffinstuff and Witchipoo aren't into the truth. If Baylor's saying something about England, he's getting something out of it, believe me.

About the candidates. Wilkinson is all about the party and not about the people. She's always been nice to my face, but I've heard her talk about people and that makes me wonder what she might say about me as soon as my back is turned. In any case, she's just a furious anti-Republican and in the inner circle. So, no, I don't plan to vote for her. Wouldn't dream of it.

A vote for Wilkinson is A VOTE FOR ENGLAND!

    ReplyDelete
  57. yawn. you people bore me. time to visit another blog.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Shirley thinks she is qualified because she has been to a lot of council meetings in the past 8 yrs but she cant name anything that can be cut out of the budget only that she will go over it line by line. Well if she has been there for eight years, she should know line by line whats been in the budgets and what our tax dollars have been spent on. She has offered no answers or possible solutions. She may get elected but it wont be because she is knowledgeable. It will be because voters dont want someone else as council at large.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Benedetti drinking beer you really don't know her!!!!!
She hates beer that is why people on here do not know her.
Her husband and her are very private people and they would not have it any other way.
    So just keep lying!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. What was John Gonder doing drinking beer in front of the democrat booth over the weekend!
    Talking about drinkers
    Gonder
    McLaughlin
    Price
You want to talk about consumption follow them sometime!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I dont care who drinks beer or who doesnt. I dont care what they do in their private life or in their bedroom. I want people who can make real change to make this city the best it can be. This city has been driven so far down and its time to vote for people who care more about the city and its' citizens instead of for those that are most interested in how much money they can make off the city and its' citizens.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Mr. Gahan pays for his insurance through his wife's job as a principal. They do not have as good a deal as the teachers. I suppose you think they should not be allowed to pay for insurance while working a full time job?? Well you know, when you go to college and earn masters degrees and higher, there are some perks you are entitled to for spending all of that money and insurance just may be one of them.

BTW--Lest we forget benedetti not recusing herself from the many votes on her brother's development (wendys). And unlike you or me was able to spend 20k to get out of the owi----Yeah, what a class act.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I've seen Diane drinking beer at sever bars and at the K Of C. Now stop your lying.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I saw her drinking beer at that stupid Har Ho business lunch where everyone gets plastered. She was walking around with beer in her hand, chatting with friends. I think it's someone else doesn't know her very well.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I worked on political campaigns back in the day, and have to say that we put signs where we were supposed to. Do the republicans even teach people any more where to put the signs? There must be 100 Burks signs in the rightofway alone.

    ReplyDelete
  66. For the person on here talking about the business luncheon. I am one of the board members from the Horseshoe Casino and Diane Benedetti did not consume one beer at this event. Why would you want to tell these terrible stories on a person who does so much for your community is beyond what I can even imagine.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Don't you wish you had 20k to spend? Diane was judged by a jury and a judge went through the system with no favors so now who is telling the truth not the person on here!!!
    Get a life
BY THE WAY SHE DOESN'T DRINK BEER!!!!
    I WILL SUPPORT DIANE
CALL DIANE SHE GETS THINGS DONE!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jack Messer and Dan Coffey have several signs in the right of way. So don't blame only the republicans.

p.s. I've also seen Bendetti drinking beer at the Past Time just ask Missi Jacobs she was there also.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Boy, you must not get downtown much, do you?

Not a judge in New Albany believes Diane was sober. Stop painting her a 'saint' because she's NOT. The voters in her district will determine if they believe she was 'Saint Diane' as several of you says she is.

    Rutherford has got my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Horseshoe board members' involvement with the community doesn't involve checking out who's drinking beer and who isn't, does it? Were you watching her at every moment? Were you even with her?

    Benedetti ain't no saint.

    ReplyDelete
  71. don't know if she's a saint, but if even the TRIBUNE knows she's a boozer kinda tells you that its ovious.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Can we stop talking about swill and booze? This gets old. Everyone knows about Diane B and there's nothing new here.

    ReplyDelete
  73. How about this? It looks like everything got cleaned up pretty fast after Harvest Homecoming. It was a nice time. We went down Saturday afternoon. Seemed like the crowds were as much as usual. Anybody know if it was?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yes I was with Diane Benedetti the whole time and she has never portrayed herself as a saint. I know she is not tooth face and is not hypocritical. The tribune knowing her is a joke! If you cannot follow the pattern of the tribune yet you need to open your eyes. The tribune calls people like you all
Baylor, smith, price, denhardt,Coffey, because your all about drama. One day you all will realize god has not put you on this earth to talk about people and bash them.
New Albany will never change look in the mirror!

    ReplyDelete
  75. this is why they dont allow anonymous people on juries.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yes. That Baylor is all about drama. Look at his stupid assessments of the candidates. Always lumping people into categories and using those stupid words nobody knows but him.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I take issue with the News and Tribune being called into question. The paper only prints facts that can be substantiated. Always.

    ReplyDelete
  78. and using those stupid words nobody knows

Right on! How is us little people supposed to afford dictionaries when we ain't got no jobs?

    ReplyDelete
  79. It's Baylor, Gillenwater, Smith, and their drinkin' buddies who don't have jobs. Owning a business doesn't count, since you spend all your time on the computer, and Gillenwater is worthless, mooching off his wife. Pretty soon, she might be out of a job unless, by some turn of events, that Bagsworth gets in. He wouldn't know whether to keep Gillenwater in her job or not because I guarantee that he's never heard of Gillenwater and doesn't know he's a worthless bum. And if Messer wins, Gillenwater himself might get a job in the administration. Maybe he'll take over Garry's job. ROFLMAO

    VOTE FOR JEFF GAHAN!

    ReplyDelete
  80. But don't vote for Benedetti or Wilkinson. Remember the drinking.

That will show election day and then who will you move on too.
I do know one thing denhardt,Baylor, and smith ran as democrats and they are far from democrats. Always endorsing republicans isn't that right Vickie I know Hillary wouldn't like that. Randy ran on he is a real democrat where is he now.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Many democrats support republicans and I'm one of them. Phipps is a joke. Let's see how long it takes for him to piss fluffinstuff off if elected.
The first time he doesn't vote his way he will be lambasted. Phipps is NO more qualified to sit on the council then England. Besides, England's only running to get healthcare and to try and keep his greedy hands in our cookie jar.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Who is fluffinstuff?

    ReplyDelete
  90. I think Phipps is very qualified. He is a REAL Democrat, not like the hacks & DINOs that make up the Democrats in New Albany. Phipps is a breath of fresh air compared to Steve Price. He will bring a progressive perspective to the city council.

    ReplyDelete
  92. How are you all over looking the fact that Susan K gets paid 90K a year by our tax money?

    ReplyDelete
  93. that is not a salary it is a contract amount. she has to use that money to pay her own insurance, transportation, office supplies, employer side taxes, healthcare, etc.

yes she is making a good income from the contract maybe too much but HER income is not near $90K.

    ReplyDelete
  94. @7:26 When you say "our tax money" you mean federal taxes. The money for her contract comes from a federal grant. It's not general funds.

When the city applied for the $6.7 million NSP it said in the grant application it would hire someone to help administer the grant. Louisville hired 3 people to administer its grant. Susan contract is paid from the $6.7 million.

  101. Thanks Zurschmiede!
It’s about time a council member stands up to this administration and stop them from making NA nothing more than a Section 8 City. You got my Vote!

    October 12, 2011

Housing developments tabled in New Albany
A development for low-income tenants spurred some disagreement between the city’s administration and commissioners. Carl Malysz, deputy mayor, said the development would provide affordable housing with the possibility of low-income tax credits and possibly replace some of the developments at the New Albany Housing Authority. But Kevin Zurschmiede, vice president of the commission, said adding more low-income housing isn’t what the city needs.

Zurschmiede said to foster more redevelopment in the city, it needs to attract people with expendable income to spend on restaurants and other businesses downtown. Otherwise, more low-income housing could bring in more people who neither work nor spend time in New Albany.

“My constituents are tired of dealing with these folks who have no ties to New Albany or any commitment to it,” Zurschmiede said.

    ReplyDelete
  102. the deal was to replace old units with newer units. what's wrong with that.

    ReplyDelete
  103. No it was for NEW development with the POSSIBILITY of replacing somesome of the developments at the New Albany Housing Authority.

We need to attract people with income to our community!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Gary Indiana , Chicago are telling people we have the largest amout of public housing that's why they are moving here. Both of them are tearing down there public housing and they are relocating here!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. at 8:02
wrong. we have the same number of public housing units we had a couple years ago. there are no more families here now than then.
i assume you bring up gary since you are a racists and assume everyone in public housing is black.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yet it's true that we have a ridiculous number of section 8 and HUD housing here. Many people move here from across the river to mooch off our taxpayers while neither working nor paying taxes in New Albany/Floyd Co. If we want to expand our tax base and have more money in our city budget, we need to get RID of public housing (not all, but much of it). Homeowners are taxpayers who often have local jobs or own local businesses. Zurchmeide is right.

8:21, this has nothing to do with blacks or racism. Black people need to move out into our better neighborhoods and out of poverty. I, for one, welcome them as I welcome any neighbor.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Has nothing to do with being black both communities are tearing down some of there public housing. I knew when I wrote that someone would make an issue just like that. Get your head out of your you know what and be positive. Drive through the housing an look at the tags!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Section 8 and HUD housing robs the working people and the city of resources. Ask the police chief if he thinks we need more low income housing, ask the schools. The Admin of this city wants this city to be poor so they can get more federal money to pay their salaries. The city should focus on ways to bring up the median income in the community rather than ways to keep it in poverty. Time for change.

    ReplyDelete
  109. The Admin of this city wants this city to be poor so they can get more federal money to pay their salaries.

England, Malysz, Gibson, Rosenbarger, Garry, none of these people have a penny of their salaries paid by federal money. What's your point?

    ReplyDelete
  110. I think his point is that people on public assistance pay no city or county taxes. They offer nothing to our tax base. But they do use our streets and roads, police and fire protection, schools, and so on. So they suck up money while paying nothing back in. Our tax base can be broadened simply by having homeowners live in New ALbany. By the way, I don't see England and Gibson live in pretty nice housing, both OUTSIDE city limits. Do you think they'd put the givernment housing next to their own neighborhoods? I don't think so. Malysz lives in New Albany in a neighborhood near one of the projects. But he says nothing. Why is that?

    ReplyDelete
  111. the proposal that redevelopment tabled a couple days ago was for a PRIVATE DEVELOPER from louisville. unlike NAHA it would have had to pay property taxes on its houses. especially if they take out come NAHA tax free units, the PRIVATE developement could be a good deal for the city's bottom line.

    ReplyDelete
  112. To generate more revenue you have to stop giving tax abatements, stop TIF-ing the city and then make people pay the right amount of taxes. Stop giving free hook ups, developers and certain citizens building without permits No more free rides for NO one. Is that so complicated for anyone to understand?

Someone needs some balls to stand up to the police, fire and the local unions!!!!!!!!

  120. 9:55 uninformed people like you are why things are allowed to go on. check into where a portion of malysz's $80K salary comes from and report back to us. I guess next you will tell us that cdbg monies paying a portion of his salary are not federal. geez!

    ReplyDelete
  121. @9:55 clsoe down half the projects and we still receive same amount of cdbg. plus the city didnt use all its cdbg last year anyhow.

    ReplyDelete
  122. yep, that is why they want to keep the city low income so they can still get same or more cdbg. they dont have to spend all the cdbg in one year they have 18 months to spend it. they end up spending every dollar they get for each award. they would rather the city be poor than not poor so they can keep getting their goverment cdbg welfare money. it like some people on welfare, as long as they are getting their welfare check each month for doing nothing, they have no desire or incentive to do anything or be any better.

yes, stop building more low income and sect 8 housing for them to move into and reduce the number we currently have.

Now with that answered its time to move on to more difficult questions.

How can we attract educated working people from other counties and states to move to new albany?

  147. Who the heck is Tony Rutherford and what makes him qualified to be on the council? What experience does he have? Anyone please! Is he just a pawn that has been thrown out there?

    ReplyDelete
  148. Who is this Phipps in the 3rd district? No one seems to be talking much about him on here.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Tonye Rutherford is a local man who helps all kinds of little people when they need it. He is not the kind to toot his own horn, but he digs in there and does what needs to be done to help whenever he is needed. I have seen him give up his own recreational time to show kindness to others who really need it. Also, he's not made of money, yet he gives what he can to whatever he sees needs help. The fact that he is black means that he can bring voices none of us never hear into the Council meetings. He is no one's pawn, and, while his own party is supportive of him, they didn't chase him down and say, "Hey, Tonye, we can't get anyone else to be the sacrificial lamb, so why not you?" No, Tonye is interested in public service and sought office of his own accord.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Greg Phipps is a local man whose intellect and sense of reason will make him an excellent member of the Council. Greg is gay, but that's not the point. While he is not hiding the fact that he is gay, he does not wear it on his sleeve and he is not making it an issue for his election. Greg knows that the city needs people of integrity on the Council and he is able to fit the bill perfectly. Greg's party is basically supportive, but because it is so fractured, he finds support outside the inner circle. Greg Phipps cannot be coerced into doing the bidding of others who may be pushing agenda for personal gain. Greg is a no-nonsense candidate and will serve very well alongside people like Tonye Rutherford. Both of these candidates will work outside the perimeters of their respective parties and bring cooperation and good, solid reasoning back into the Council.

    ReplyDelete
  151. 3:27 so from your description, he has no qualifications. Ok, thats what I had thought. Thanks for confirming. I appreciate it.

    ReplyDelete
  152. 3:33 Didnt phipps make deal with police and fire in order to get their endorsement? Something to the extent of no layoffs, station closing, or decrease in salaries no matter what? Our City is broke and he's making promises like that? Isnt that pushing the agenda of the police and fire for their personal gains?

    ReplyDelete
  153. 5:38 you are a liar.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Phipps is a good choice for council. He says he wants to get council meetings all televised. Something we've tried in vain to do so in the past so everyone will see the shenanigans that go on there, but Mayor managed to stop it. Maybe Phipps can get it done.
Personally I think he's a no nonsense guy who will do an honest job and that's the biggest attribute we need in council members. Some honesty and less weeling and dealing behind the scenes.
He also says he'll get rid of the "good 'ol boy" politics that plague New Albany. I don't think it can be done but I'd like to see him try because I for one will call him out on it if he doesn't get some changes implemented to lessen the control of those 'ol boys.
All in all, he's got good intentions and that's a lot more than I can say for some of the other candidates.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Baylor finally gets one set of endorsements correct. Council at large:

Harbison is ancient; Baird well meaning but far too entrenched with the supremely pointless local Democratic futility structure; and England frankly undeserving of further political office after sleep-walking through his third term as mayor -- maybe Guido's absence as enforcer was more important than we thought.

NAC's picks: That leaves Gonder, who thinks globally and acts locally, and should continue to improve as a council representative, and perhaps Zurschmiede. The latter has a bad habit of 1Si envy, but his performance on the council generally has been solid, if unspectacular. When voting at-large, the vote you refrain from casting is as important as the box you tick.

  157. What do you know about Bledsoe who is running against Phipps?

    ReplyDelete
  158. Jameson Bledsoe is a local man whose intellect and sense of reason will make him an excellent member of the Council. Jameson is straight, but that's not the point. While he is not hiding the fact that he is straight, he does not wear it on his sleeve and he is not making it an issue for his election. Jameson knows that the city needs people of integrity on the Council and he is able to fit the bill perfectly. Jameson's party is very supportive, but he finds support among all parties. Jameson cannot be coerced into doing the bidding of others who may be pushing agenda for personal gain. Bledsoe has not cut a deal with the police and fire. Jameson is a no-nonsense candidate and will serve very well alongside his fellow council members. Jameson will work outside the perimeters of his party and bring cooperation and good, solid reasoning back into the Council.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Bledsoe once said he supported golf as a means of urban renewal and gated communities in urban neighborhoods. He can't write a complet sentence without grammatical errors. He talks alot and says nothing. He is a pompous know-it-all.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Phipps has aligned himself with the "good 'ol boy" politics that continue to plague New Albany. He has accepted the endorsement and campaign contributions from the police and fire unions and even from Doug England himself. Those who are familiar with the politics in this community know that their support doesn't come without some weeling and dealing behind the scenes. A vote for Phipps is a vote for busines as usual in New Albany

    ReplyDelete
  161. didnt fluffinstuff endorse phipps @ NAC? bet the fluffer got a special backdoor deal from phibbs for endorsing him. come to the city boys!

    ReplyDelete
  162. Wow. What a lot of shenanigans has been going on this past week. Can't keep up with you all, so I'll address the most recent conversation.

No question that Phipps would make an excellent council member. Vote YES for Phipps! Bledsoe is no where to be seen and that would continue if he were elected to the council.

Benedetti is past being an effective leader. You simply cannot be found driving drunk more than once and expect anyone to take you seriously. Vote NO for Benedetti.

As far as I'm concerned, the post above regarding Rutherford sounds good enough to qualify him for a seat on the council. I know Tonye, and he's a hard-hitting, no-nonsense man of high integrity, kind of like Phipps. One thing the person who posted didn't say is that while Tonye is black, that's not the point. He neither wants to hide it, nor does he use for a platform. Kind of like Phipps. Hmmm. Looks like we're getting a new breed of Council. There's hope yet.

At-large candidates to give a nod to:

    Gonder
    Zurschmeide
    Burks

No England. No Harbison. No Baird. They're all unsuitable, for different reasons.

Since I can't vote for any of the candidates I've mentioned, I'll have to leave it to all of you to make the right choice. I'll be watching from afar.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Bledsoe can be found at every council meeting. Phipps, can be found making backdoor deals.

    ReplyDelete
  164. whats up saying he's black, he's gay, but thats not the point. just what is your point in saying it then? is it just your excited about the prospect of na having their first black gay councilman?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Rutherford is gay? Wow,a gay black councilman for New Albany. That's progressive for little ole New Albany.

    ReplyDelete
  166. You people are morons. I don't read what they said to mean that at all. Also, what back door deals has Phipps made, exactly? He went on the same interview that all the other candidates went to. They're afraid to endorse Repbublicans. Once we break up the good ole boy network, that'll stop, and they'll endorse the ones they want. In the meantime, they've endorsed Phipps. Bledsoe may be at council meetings, but so what? He's sitting there watching what he hopes he'll be doing. Has he visited the people of his district? Well, he hasn't been to my house. Not once. Phipps has come a couple of times.

Unless you've got proof, you shouldn't be talking about back door deals. If you have proof and not hearsay, bring it on.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I didn't say Rutherford is gay. He's not gay.

    Stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Phipps should stop spending so much of his time at your house and start visiting other areas of the precinct. Why can’t he speak for himself? He has not been to my house or any of my neighbors.

Lets see if Phipps will go on the record that he has not received political contribution$ from the police and fire union$ and did not take political contribution$ from Doug England. Those are some of the larger players in the good ole boy network you keep saying he's not a part of.

  192. 7:45 pm, I beg to differ. Answer me two questions. How come every judge in the city county building refused to hear her case and each and everyone of those judges has told most of the citizens in our city she was guilty.

    ReplyDelete
  193. The judges in new Albany were not even asked to hear the court case. I am on the case and it looks like those judges which I Know who your speaking of Orth and Cody. That is not how the system works you don't jump from superior court to another court. There is a revolving list if one has to recuse themselves from all different counties. Hancock's court it was Judge Newkirk. Look up his record and see how many cases he has convicted. Newkirk is one of the toughest judges around. So you can keep judging her but she has been judged by a judge and 6 jury. That is just like the reputation our judges we are talking about discussing a case that had nothing to do with them. I know there is an ethics code from judge to judge and I am sure these judges have lost some support while doing this. But remember we are in new Albany.
Dont think Benedetti doesn't know about Cody drinking beer with Roger on Friday nights giving his synopsis to several people does that make it gospel HELL NO!!!!!!
Newkirk is a up standing judge I can not say too much about New Albany's wait maybe I can HANCOCK is the best we will hate to loose him.
By your last statement about the other judges maybe it is time to turn them into the bar association. They get away with far too much!!!!!!!
Citizens are also watching judges to see there ethics. Don't under estimate who might be sitting at that round table who might be very dear to Benedetti. There are a lot of people out here and I mean city wide who have a lot of respect for her standing up for her self. I wanted her to run city wide she's got what it takes. She is very dear to me and I will go down with a fight for her.
Thanks for your time on here.

    ReplyDelete
  194. Oh I had to jump in look at all the cases that have been appealed in Codys court which he made a ruling on. His decision was overturned a lot of them it is public record.
That's what you can find out that is factual. If Henderson would of ran against Cody. You know Henderson would of won.
Those records are facts not opinions.

  195. is phipps going to introduce a gay ordinance if elected? some say phipps made a back door deal with baylor to get his endorsement. is rogers promotion of a gay ordinance part of that backdoor deal? looking at rogers latest blog topic, it appears it could be a preface to what is coming. it would be nice if all the candidates would be straight with the voters and tell us what their platforms and agendas really are.

  196. 3:08- Perhaps they are...but you're too paranoid to believe them and revel in all of the various conspiracy theories round these here parts. Good luck with that kind of life, it must really suck.

  197. Some are paranoid, Roger, just like you. Conspiracy theories abound, but don't think you've not helped get the seed of doubt started. You want to influence many. You could either do this for good or for bad. We know what your choice is, and we know that you are well acquainted with paranoia. Nobody seriously thinks you made a backdoor deal about gay ordinances. But you sure do like phallic symbols and talk a lot about sex and innuendo. Grow up, Roger.
