WHEN IS THE TIME RIGHT?

The grief our family is feeling and talking about around our kitchen table is overwhelming.

As parents, our first worry is about our 401Ks and the possibility of the federal government defaulting on debt payments.  All analysts are predicting this stand off within the federal government will wipe people's 401Ks out.  Period.   How and where and when can we, the people, practice civil disobedience and have massive protests?  Is it warranted?

We all are still talking about the Audit and RiverView.  We know both issues are a giant pile of crap we need to remedy and stop talking about.   How and where and when can we, the people, practice civil disobedience and have a protest?  Is it warranted?

All family members are talking about the mess with the bridges and how much the cost is going to be to our family and friends.  One daughter works in Louisville for minimum wage and lives in the Knobs.  One son is attending Sullivan University and runs back and forth between there and here 3 or 4 times a day.  My husband works for Ford.  Downtown New Albany's restaurants are pulling Louisville customers.  We don't see them coming to my friend's new place with a toll.  I probably won't go over there and eat unless it's something we really enjoy, i.e., Winston's and Jack Fry's (New Albany hasn't moved that far up the ladder yet).  The powers to be will not perform or release the study which will show the harm and disproportionate monies this will cost all of southern Indiana.  How and where and when can we, the people, practice civil disobedience and have a protest?  Is it warranted?

P.S.  How do the elderly and disabled and the disadvantaged get help for this heat?  We know some who could use fans and water.

  1. Talk about hitting the nail on the head, KT, you just did. I lost my 401 when the bottom fell out on the first go around.

  2. I agree with FOS, call 'Obama's bluff.' He's the one who got us in this mess, it's Obama's (depression) problem. Live on a budget just like the rest of us.

  3. Unlike New Albany, we don't have a revenue problem we have a spending problem. Sound fimiliar? Tax revenue can increase without raising taxes. We just have to stop the pandering (for votes) politicians to live within budetary constraints as we do.

  4. Has anyone read about the disaster in Minnesota? They're laying everyone off. Count your blessing if you got a job. I pray for you and others who don't. New Albany is going to end up just like Bell, California.

  5. Yes, we should protest. For thew last 2.5 years, conservatives have been screaming at the repubs to get tough, to do the smart thing, and stop being such timid thumbsuckers.

Aside from the terrific victories we won in November 2010, and the dawning of truth in the minds, (thanks to Tea Party members from all over this country, there is a (to my mind) far more powerful indication that heavy-duty (Tea Party members) help is on the way.

  6. If I owed $20,000 and kept asking for a higher and higher debt limit but never really made any progress on paying it down, would you lend to me?

  7. Wish we could throw most of them out and start all over.
Sorry, I must go, it's time for me to eat my peas.

  8. If Sarah Palin doesn't run for president I really may just curl up into a little ball and droll the next year and a half.

  9. Here's a helpful suggestion. Take this economy, this wasted money, this debt, and O's entire record...and hogtie him with it! Make him own the unemployment numbers as a duncecap, the debt as a pair of bozo shoes, the deficit as a big red nose, gas prices as an albatrose, and make him wear it all, morning noon and nitey, nite, nite!

  11. I am new to your blog and I must say, I absolutely love your blog. I have always been so intimidated by politics and this post inspired me to go out and do a little research on my own. It feels like a good start. I think you are a fabulous writer, and you couldn't have hit this more on the head. I completely agree, Americans need to protest and America just needs to know what's going on.

  13. Unfortunately, until we ALL thoroughly understand what is going on with respect to the federal income tax, we all are the losers. I'm going long on guns, oil, and food. The USD will be firewood by 2012, thanks to our so called democrat party.

  14. This country is ripe for a revolt, and I think I will see it during my lifetime. Too much greed, secrecy, and double dealing. We The People have had enough of it.

  16. obama did this? the economy went south during the bush years--TARP--the bank bailout, was a bush initiative. also we raised the debt ceiling 7 times during the bush years-----and we will again if not you will see a mess bigger than anthing in your or your parents lifetime

    ReplyDelete
  17. I disagree 9:37. Blame this all on Bush all you want, but sooner or later, you'll have to own up to the fact that Obama, who I also voted for, has let us down terribly. Starting with the bailing out of GM and all the rest of the bad decisions he has made. you just can't blame Dubya forever.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wait a minute. You're agreeing with Baylor?

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's Bush's fault!?! How's that hope and change work'n for you democrats?

    Roflmao

    ReplyDelete
  20. well if you do not bail out gm how many other companies go under--a few thousand small's. remember we do not have automobile factories any more we have assembly plants where thousands of parts from thousands of companies are assembled---they all would have gone under--I DID NOT LIKE IT EITHER--I WAS REALLY TORN ON WHAT TO DO---but both parties would have doneit--btw nothing i said blamed it on bush-- the fact is we raised the ceiling under him too and had bailouts under him ---obama and bush felt the same way and thought they had no choice. HOW ANYONE THINKS THE PROBLEMS CAN BE WORKED OUT IN 2.5 YEARS IS BEYOND ME. HELL, IT TAKES A YEAR AND ONE HALF JUST TO GET ANYTHING THROUGH CONGRESS-- THEN IT HAS TO GET IMPLEMENTED--- THEN YOU HAVE TO HAVE PROGRAMS IN PLACE FOR SOME TIME BEFORE THERE CAN BE ANY MEANINGFUL FEEDBACK ON WHETHER SOMETHING IS WORKING OR NOT. THAT IS TRUE FOR EVERY PRESIDENT-----ON THE CURRENT CRISIS--- BOTH SIDES SHOULD CAVE A LITTLE AND WE SHOULD GO FOR THE BIG FIX---I DOUBT THE LITTLE PEOPLE ARE MAKING OVER 250K ANYWAY----The problem is that a lot of people in congress have backed themselves into a corner by. making "no compromise" statements. bush 41 made that mistake when he said --no new taxes--but he had to raise the current taxes anyway. from the consttutional convention forward--compromise and cosensus building is the only thing that has held the country together----AND WE WILL SEE ANOTHER ONE

  21. Whose Sam Lahanis? Never heard of him. Anyone know who he is?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ford didn't take govt bail out money and they are now doing better than all of them. They fixed their own problems without taking gov't handouts and having the govt tell them what to do.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Donohue & Assoc Inc is a company which is run by Sam Lahanis who serves as Manager. The estimated annual revenue of Donohue & Assoc Inc is $1,580,00.00 and the average number of employees is 1

    ReplyDelete
  24. that is true about ford their mistakes were not as big as gm's and they had deep pockets-----they were still making the gas guzzling trucks and suvs too--look at them now---the are going to have two totally electric cars by 2013----still to let gm fail would have put the u.s. economy in much worse shape. my first thought was to let them fail for making stupid business decisions

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sam Lahanis was Project Manager for Environmental Management Corporation's rebuilding of New Albany's Wastewater Treatment Plant, after Ron Hess passed away. Big Sam left New Albany (2005) and went to work for Donohue and Associates in Willmar, Minnesota. Then he evidently became sanitary director at Richmond, Indiana, but was fired Dec, 2009 (difference in management styles). Now he is Utility Director/Manager (May 2011) back in New Albany, IN. (Hang on to those flow meters!)
By the way Miss Wisman, where are those sewer board minutes?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm not a fan of "Big Sam's". The correct wording for him may be to say "does not play well with others". Have always found him to be rude and obnoxious. He came in under Overton and again under Garner.

My question is how does the sewer utility say their budget, etc, is in fine order when the audit says they didn't apply over $2 million in credits and debits and aren't billing any city properties?

    What a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This whole city is a joke. We need new leadership and to get rid of all the nut jobs around here.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You (almost) all are freaking idiots. Unbelievable. Good luck with real life. morons.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What will the elderly and senior citizens do in New Albany? Wasn't it Mayor England who said; turn off your cable bill to pay a higher sewer rate?

I say throw them all out!

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's time to cut everyone's salary, starting with the Police and Fire Department. Then eliminate all council members with healthcare.

    ReplyDelete
  31. After you eliminate Carl and Gibson's job.

    ReplyDelete
  32. deputy mayor cam be eliminated----but not city attorney. however the salary can be lowered-----a lot

    ReplyDelete
  33. If you think we got it bad, wait until you read FOS today. Thanks you Erik for putting these numbers out for all of us to see.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Holy Bat shit Robin, no wonder our city is broke. England should be removed from office.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The irony about the last two comments is that "Robin" is more real than "EriK"

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ok, Roger, go fix your phone and keep your mouth shut.

Great job, over there on Freedom Of Speech.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Did I really ready we are paying Police, Fire and both pensions over 17 million dollars?
Where can I read or get a copy of this audit?
Can anyone help me out, here.

    ReplyDelete
  38. we all no that garry doesnt know how to compute.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 2:06 Go see Kay Garry on the 3rd floor of the County building and she will provide you with the audit report.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Amazing how close our city is to being just like that one in Alabama. Great post on Freedom of Speech!!

  41. Mary Lou Byerly replaces Warren Nash. Hmmm I think I told you so!?! Back when Warren got fired. Political pure an simple. It was a favor for Thresea Plaiss and her boyfriend Ted Heaverin. Shame on you all for firing the best and that was Warren Nash.
And, they wonder why the democrat party is so in shambles.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 3:57, Kay Garry WON'T give you Shit! Who are you kidding? She's the one who knows where all of England's skeltons are. They both deserve to be in jail.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tell you Council rep you would like a copy of the Audit.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congratulations Mary Lou Byerly!

It was time for Nash to go. Nash should should have taught his son how to keep his mouth shut, but apples never fall far from the tree.

    ReplyDelete
  45. His son is a blabbermouth who thinks people actually want to hear what he has to say. Nash the Elder never struck me that way, though.

Mary Lou, good luck to YOU!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thanks to Matt he got his dad fired. Warren was warned but he stated he could not control his son.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anyone attend England's fundraiser at the Country Club last night. Small turn out I heard. Sounds like Doug is up to his old sahit again.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I wouldn't attend an England fundraiser if it was the last party on earth. Low attendance? No doubt. Matt got his dad fired? REally? Dont' get that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOL. Probably.

He's also hanging out with Baylor and drinking that swill.

    Baylor's a moron. 'Nuff said.

    ReplyDelete
  50. 2 new fire trucks, more police cars, clothing allowance, arbitration, more spending, more grandstanding.
Gonder states we need something done about sewer liens.

Now, 7 years later they want something done. What about all the city properties that NO sewer fees were even paid?

Can we put liens on the city?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Like 9:46 said, these people are morons. 'Nuff said.

    ReplyDelete
  52. we need to get those mornon's out of office. nuff said.

  59. Um, yeah. 'Cause that made sense, 9:19. Seriously, you all are going to have to better than this.

    ReplyDelete
  60. 7:11, who are you referring to as "sugar momma"?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hope you folks are staying inside. When is it ever going to cool down?

  67. I see Clarksville is trying to raise property taxes. I hope for New Albany citizens sake they don't try that here.

Because if they do we will march on this city and they will NOT know what hit them.

    NO NEW FEES
    NO NEW TAXES

    ReplyDelete
  68. Go CFA! NO NEW FEES! NO NEW TAXES!

As for Roger, do what you want. Keep on doing what you want. It's worked for you this long. But there are plenty of people waiting to send you packing too. And you won't know what hit you.

  69. Why is Shane Gibson our city attorney involved in the Historic case? Who is paying for his legal advice?

    ReplyDelete
  70. We are. Fire that bum!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ha! Ha! Ha! Go Gretchen, whoever you are!

    ReplyDelete
  72. And, no, Roger, Nash is NOT right. He's just saying what you tell him to say. He's stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  73. "Why is Shane Gibson our city attorney involved in the Historic case?"

Shane is involved because Ron Craig and Price's buddy Grant Richart both sued the city. If they hadn't sued the city, the city would have saved thousands in legal fees.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Citizens and property owners do have rights. If the City does not follow proper procedures, what do you expect? Wouldn't you think we have enough lawyers on payroll to advise the HPC correctly and know how to do things correctly?

    My opinion anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I thought Grant only sued the Historic Preservation? I understand he's also going to sue Roger Baylor, Peter Farmer and several on Main Street. He's got the money and has nothing to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  76. it's Feimer. He called him a carpet bagger in print.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Gretchen nailed it, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Darrell Mills was named top Sheriff in Indiana.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Mills is a joke and a phony.

    Boo hiss.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It's funny. We're just full of losers around here: Mills, Feimer, Baylor, Gibson, England, Malysz, and the list goes on.

Baylor may be redeeming himself. Apparently, he's promoting the GOP candidate running against Cesaer. She's a blond knock-out named Jessica Knable. Seen her picture. Anybody know her?

    Baylor's got a crush. ROFLMAO.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Who the h@&& is Gretchen?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well, well, well. It turns out that Baylor's marriage may not be the sham we'd always thought it was and that he's not gay after all. He has a little crush. How cute.

Does he have a crush on this Gretchen? Or is it Jessica he likes?

And your evidence? How do we know this?

    ReplyDelete
  83. All I know is that now he's got a hardon for Casear. Fickle character, isn't he?

    ReplyDelete
  84. doesnt take much to get a rise out baylor o^o
